Many years ago I got the chance to enter 2 lift motor rooms, while working as a security guard. One of them was the opposite to the one in your video, as it was really spacious and brightly illuminated. It was in a high-rise building with 27 floors, and it housed 4 motors of 4 of the 5 lifts. I don`t remember much more, as it was my duty to take a look inside, once per night. But I do remember, that I was fascinated by the machinery! The other motor room was in an older, 3 story building. The company I worked for didn`t use the third floor, it looked like the whole building was going to be tore down (as far as I know, it`s still there). Once per night, I had to check the deserted third floor for any unusual signs, as well as take a look in the motor room. The motor room was like the third floor: dirty, flickering lights, and a rather rusty machinery. The elevator used to malfunction at least once per week. As I wasn`t an elevator fan, by then, I never took any pictures of the machine rooms. Wish I could go back and explore them some more, take some pictures and videos and share them with you all. Thanks for your inspiring videos! My friends say I`m weird, cause I use to watch elevator related videos for hours ;)
I must say, I admire your bravery climbing up that maintenance 'room': seeing that elevator shaft popping up right next to the entry looked quite scary.
+stili774 "yes, i was up there trying to find the server room, i can only find analog equipment, have you considered the fact the Y2K bug scare ended 16 years ago?"
Once they left the liftmachine room entrance door in my apartment building unlocked. I sometimes tried the door handle while waiting for the lift, and one day it was just open :D. Made some pictures and movie up there. Not much to see than a breaker box, control cabinet, a giant 2 meter long resistor, and the lift motor itself. Though i would be a bit scared if the floor was open like in this video! One little accident move and you'll fall to death..
+Richard van Pukkem Cool! I had a quick look on your channel hoping to find it, because your comment "not much to see other than a breaker box, control cabinet, giant resistors and motor" TO ME is something that I MUST see LOL!! Do you still have the photos/video? Yeah this motor room was a bit risky, but I like to think "the lift has character" and you wouldn't see this on a new lift - I love it!
+mrmattandmrchay I digged a bit into my Facebook photo history, and found the pictures again. Uploaded them here: imgur.com/a/gws6S/all No full picture of the giant resistor unfortunate. You only see a part of it on the left on the picture of the motor. :)
Ouh I was actually a bit scared you could fall down the shaft. Thank God nothing happened! I felt a bit dizzy "looking down the shaft" :D . Maybe they took of the wires in preparation for modernization at one day. So the question is, will the modernize it now or just leave it as it is....
+IDLift3000 But things like this give the lift a character that newer lifts could never have :) I'm really glad (and lucky) to get the opportunity not only to get into the building but to get into the LMR also??? Just HAD to film that :)
Good job with that excuse! I am going to have to remember to pay attention to directories from now as those could provide a good explanation for just being in the building, not even necessarily the motor room.
I have a video of me looking over a Horace Green & Co motor on a generic 1970's APEX lift in a tower block. Weird thing is that they were added 10+ years after the building went up. The building has a modded Express and the generic which were put in at different times.
I wonder how they installed the gear in the first place ,normally they state a minimum of 5 feet above a gear to allow for repairs and to rig a chain tackle for re roping . I notice the C/W guide rails are not a standard type either , I wonder how old this lift was as I don't think it would pass modern building regulations .
+Keith Huddy Not passing building regs is probably the exact reason it was decommissioned and would have been too costly to bring it up to standards. An MRL would probably be an alternative, but it's not exactly a large lift and COST VS NEED means it won't happen anyway. I guess that guys installing an servicing such a lift would dread this place due to the restricted access. For me though... I love it!!
Facinating. Not my idea of a comfortable motor room. The motors that drive these ones seem so small! I am guessing it is three-phase 400v and not a DC one, but still - I've got a bigger motor on me disc sander. ;) ;) ;) Nice to see that they tucked the cabin and counterweight away neatly in the pit - not like that other one in one of your videos with the cabin at or near the top of the shaft and not lock or brake on it - THAT was a scary one....
+VauxhallViva1975 haha I like the comparison with your disc sander :D I did like that derelict lift you are referring to - the more scary the better for me! The lift in this video would probably be a single speed 415 motor.
This whole place has been redeveloped. New flats instead of the old offices that existed here before. BUT, believe it or not, the lift hasn't been touched!!! It's still a derelict lift!
There is an elevator and extremly old one, at a church i never tried out, and its still around today! its been around since 1943 or so, it still has cables with it, and still its not (and maybe never) modernized!
Thanks for the comment. Hopefully you'll find my next video funny, coming out during next week hopefully. I don't claim to be a comedian but I do try to inject a little humour into my videos where I can.
I would have thought they would have put signs telling people that the lift is out of service, especially as they put a lot of effort into making it out of service and it would be replaced rather than fixed.
It fitted in nicely with the music though, the flashing part. But that was intentional. My second torch has even more "modes" - dim, half, full, flash fast, flash slow, and max. Really annoying keep having to go through all the modes to use the only one I'm ever going to use which is "max bright"!!
+Jess Valenzuela Yep, looks like it, but the coffee could have been from the 80s or 90s I guess! I wouldn't want to taste it now if there was any left :)
I'm not sure exactly how they do it, but my best guess is they would lower the car into the pit, bracket the counter weight at the top, then somehow use the existing cables to lower the Counter Weight to the bottom of the shaft then remove the ropes.
Good question, apart from a few door switches and a bit of TLC I'm sure it would work if re-roped. If I owned the building, INDEED I'd try to get it running again :)
Wow, that looks WAY too dangerous for a lift motor room, with the open shaft and low ceiling and everything... Btw. that music is awesome, can you PM/email me the name of it?
its also an illigal lift, dupar had to change the brake rods on these lifts because you could wind the adjustment on the unit and walk off, if you didn't know how to release trapped people, causing the lift to travel up vellly fast indeed. and going smack into the roof.
+Sam Sitar The fact the lifts been unused probably for many years means that nothings been changed or modded - Just the type of machine rooms I like :D
+Sam Sitar I agree with you. That motor room is so cramped that it would be a royal pain in the a** to work on anything within it, let alone that gaping hole to the shaft!
Actually, I've found this leads to more people coming up to you! When you look like you fit into an environment then people have less hesitation in asking you questions. Then, when you reply you have to tell lies and you end up 'digging yourself a hole'' as so to speak! Better to play innocent with "oh, I'm lost" or something. Just my experiences!
The wide angle of the camera appears to show a drop into the shaft just as you enter the motor room. Yes, you could fall down there, but in reality the gap isn't quite wide enough to "naturally" fall down. You'd probably get stuck in the gap before you fell down. But yes, I wouldn't have lived with myself if I hadn't taken this opportunity - a classic lift!!
when the de-rope the lift do they let the counter weight or cab just drop down. they could lower the cab but then the counter would be at the top so do they just let it drop down the rails?
That torch was bought off ebay. When I get around to doing my chernobyl q&a i will show you. I went to the US and bought an identical torch and it was noticeably brighter. Let me know if you are interested and ill give you an ebay link to one (uk version)
Actually, the building has been reopened as apartments. They've done a lot of work on the building, but in the back ground... the old derelict lift is STILL THERE!! Amazing as I thought they would have replaced it! If I go past there again in the near future then I will have another look, but it's not so easy to get in now.

How dangerous looks of this motor room... I'm sure what is this effect way old elevator since on this motor room? Why never used this elevator out of order until further notice???
Keep in mind that this is an old lift motor room. Modern ones are different and are much more safety conscious. Moving machinery is almost always guarded with removable metal cages. As for live terminals, the relay logic cabinet is a cabinet, so the door is the protection (this one is missing the door). While all the health and safety is good, it’s not really necessary. Engineers would be trained to know what they’re doing, so it shouldn’t be necessary. It’s just accident prevention I suppose.
Pickerings is a company that install lifts and I believe they also manufactured their own gear. From their website "At Pickerings Lifts, our history dates back over 160 years with experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of lifts, escalators, loading systems and mobility equipment." When a video is unplanned or unarranged, I blur anything that shows the whereabouts of the building for my own reasoning and experiences. Showing exactly where it is opens me up to things that I don't want to go into, which are irrelevant to the video and avoidable at time of editing. Mostly, I'm over-thinking this and it isn't a problem, but it's just something "I" do. Also, in the past I've had other youtubers "with no respect" producing copycat videos weeks later from ones I've just uploaded and no credit to me for finding it in the first place. I'm very respectful to other youtuber's videos, but some people are not.
Yeah, you made it sound like the object itself was just called a "pickerings." Okay, it would be interesting if you would explain those reasons you don't really want to go into, but if that makes you worry about your own security besides what you've already told me, then I can understand that. Why the quotation marks around "I"? Are you trying to say that you're not real?
Oh. Well, the way you said it, you made it sound like you were saying that just the switching equipment itself was called a "pickerings." Okay, so it would be nice if you were willing to go into more detail about the blurring than you did, but if you're worried about your own security, then I think I can understand that. But why did you just use quotation marks around the "I"? Are you trying to say that you're not a real person, or something like that?
What I mean is, anything anyone does in life is normally from their own personality or experiences. My specialist subject from my personality is "attention to detail". I put in a lot of effort with my editing, and I try to think of everything. Sometimes it's to protect myself or my channel, sometimes it's to make the video more interesting for my viewers. I'm always overthinking things, for example, "what if", "why don't I" or "what happens if...". I sometimes do a lot of unnecessary things like blurring the video "just in case of...". It's just my personality and editing style I guess. At time time, considering the circumstances of this visit I decided to blur everything. But bear in mind, the whole purpose of the video is the lift, the location is irrelevant. Hope that helps :)
How do you know it was condemned? When a lift is decommissioned, it is generally left in a safe state...ie immovable, then sealed off. Removing the ropes would be ridiculous. I can only assume this is being prepared for removal.
+Louis_J Thanks for your comment and I've not really researched this, so I've just googled it. Differences between youtube, as far as I can see, is people pay $3 per month to sub to channel, revenue might be better, and you can watch vids 72 hours before they are released to the public. But I cannot see how my channel can be any use on here, just wondering?
Thanks! Really fits the video I think and I matched up the 'police siren' sound bit in the music with the torch. All these finishing touches that finish off the video :)
+Louis_J Ah, well this is my C2 Innovv car cam. It's ideal for discrete filming and love the wide angle, but I didn't have time to upload a config file that would have turned the time, date and my car registration off. So I had to leave the text on, then I managed to hide it on the editing (doesn't look too bad).
I find it actually attracts more attention, then you immediately start 'digging yourself a hole' when you start lying with why you're there. In my experience, it's better not to. Just my experience though
That motor room is extremely small. Must have been a pain for the lift engineers to work in such a confined space.

Nowadays is even worse! They build MRL’s which are in closets!
They build the mothers and stuff on the roof then they put the walls and roof to the motor room I know because I’m an engineer

I would never be able to do this looking down that shaft Gave me the feeling that made me want to fall over
So the car was lowered to the bottom and the cables removed as I don't see any remnants of a broken cable.
I'm not sure exactly how they do it, but my best guess is they would lower the car into the pit, bracket the counter weight at the top, then somehow use the existing cables to lower the Counter Weight to the bottom of the shaft then remove the ropes.

when the de-rope the lift do they let the counter weight or cab just drop down. they could lower the cab but then the counter would be at the top so do they just let it drop down the rails?

Oh. Well, the way you said it, you made it sound like you were saying that just the switching equipment itself was called a "pickerings."
Okay, so it would be nice if you were willing to go into more detail about the blurring than you did, but if you're worried about your own security, then I think I can understand that.
Still no lift for this building ? the flats tenants must be happy !
I love this channel. Insta-subbed
Cool, thanks :)
There was a lightswitch in the room!
Nice!
This Lift,quite rightly Condemned,Either a major upgrade,or complete replacement.
How do you know it was condemned? When a lift is decommissioned, it is generally left in a safe state...ie immovable, then sealed off. Removing the ropes would be ridiculous. I can only assume this is being prepared for removal.
You should put your channel on Vessel
+Louis_J Thanks for your comment and I've not really researched this, so I've just googled it. Differences between youtube, as far as I can see, is people pay $3 per month to sub to channel, revenue might be better, and you can watch vids 72 hours before they are released to the public. But I cannot see how my channel can be any use on here, just wondering?
Yeah I use it and thought your channel would be a good addition but anyway dont worry :)
Nice place to put a fm transmitter!
+MrVinamp ayy lmao
can you please tell me what a fm transmitter is
i googled it but i want to hear it out of your alien mouth

What’s the music
Wrote i remember the video with the old Pickerings!
Are you not scared that the wooden board would break
I love the music:)
Thanks! Really fits the video I think and I matched up the 'police siren' sound bit in the music with the torch. All these finishing touches that finish off the video :)
@@mrmattandmrchay What is the name of the music?
What was up with the blurred bar at the bottom
+Louis_J Ah, well this is my C2 Innovv car cam. It's ideal for discrete filming and love the wide angle, but I didn't have time to upload a config file that would have turned the time, date and my car registration off. So I had to leave the text on, then I managed to hide it on the editing (doesn't look too bad).
Yeah ok I agree didnt look to bad thanks for the reply
WHY did you try to censor the passengers on that one bus out the window? What did THEY have to do with anything here?
Because the advert on the side of the bus gives a massive clue to the whereabouts of the building
mrmattandmrchay why don't you give the whereabouts of the buildings
Artrix Bcz he doesn't want any children or teens to find this area and explore it like he did and get killed
What's the name of the song please?
Is it in UA-cam audio library?
Lol can't stop laughing at the end bit 😁😁
Music name anyone?

You should of put some 007 music from the Nintendo 64 game that would of also been ace
Wear a high vis jacket, clipboard and toolbelt no one will challenge you they'll assume your maintenance
I find it actually attracts more attention, then you immediately start 'digging yourself a hole' when you start lying with why you're there. In my experience, it's better not to. Just my experience though
I am talking about the song when you sneak upstairs.
+Royann Greenwood I'll send a PM
+mrmattandmrchay thank you.
+mrmattandmrchay I enjoy those type of synth songs of sneaking around, it's gonna be used for a movie project.
Porably the lift name is Pickerings lift.
Interesting 5***** cheers
+Rhea Red Thanks :)
mrmattandmrchay link for part one does not work.
But did you find the car wash company? hahahah
+IscleGaming | ZefaCraft Yes - but it moved address :D
so you answered to that guy you're looking for a car wash company, didnt he ask you 'then why do you have a camera in your hand filming ? LOL
It was a matter of maintaining eye contact so that he doesn't look down lol!
The elevator is OUT OF ORDER... beacause the rope fall out from the machine?
No.
(I Think)
The ropes were cut because the lift is derelict.Maybe vandalism? Or maybe the elevator had a problem and is therefor put out of order?
Do you think that we can fix it?
gets add for kone
How did they people trying ride this elevator works??? Pretty old motoring like 1960s/70s for classic elevator isn't.
+Andrew Wallford Andrew, please try bear with him leave them ok?
Sorry, darling!!!
+Andrew Wallford xD why and how

+Jorge Rocha That's the first thing I did at 1:05, but no lights worked up there, which is why I went back for a good torch :)
Wakey Wakey Jorge Rocha
Omg if I was you I would pee my pants no lie XD
Did this lift have no stupid inner doors
I guess it didn't, but cannot confirm
Looking at the shaft I think it didn't have inner doors originally unless it had a gate
