- Crime Researcher and Analyst Thabang Bogopa says Lieutenant General Dr Godfrey Lebeya's HAWKS briefing focused more on the crackdown on financial crimes. However, it would have been nice to hear progress on contact crimes. He adds that extortion in South Africa has been ongoing for years and it was never taken seriously.

I know someone who is operating Uber/Bolt he dropped off or picked up a customer in the area within a lot of gangs of taxi operators. He was forced to pay an extortionate amount. These are the most vulnerable people and never reported.
