We need more fully functional clinics so people don't have to go to the hospital. Home Affairs office is also like non existent, no service, so much that people opt to travel to Kokstad. The Place of safety (orphanage) in Malote has been closed and seemingly under renovation for the past 3 yrs but only thing that has been done was to paint it So, poor, destitute kids have nowhere to go. Main road is OK but streets leading into people's houses are bad, gravel roads that are not attended to. Please, may Minister's "SA under constuction' also come to Matat, we desperately need development.

I am black too and surprisingly I am always more happy to see a different nationality behind the screen, be it Somalian, Indian, Chinese, White, etc... More often than black, our sisters/brothers are just so chock full of themselves and attitude while the service they provide is a fraction of the complex they have. I cannot stress just how much more driven "in-general" other races are when put in positions of services by majority, there is just no contest and the fact that we are a majority does not do us any justice as black people and that hurts me a lot. True there are reasons but the fact that so little few try is a massive problem in itself.

Unlike most middle to upper class South Africans, who are usually the loudest on social media, I've lived among poor people and among more well off people. In more formal establishments, treatment is generally good but I guarantee you that in low-income and informal establishments, their service can leave much to be desired. Our people are often seen as cash cows and a nuisance. I experienced this as a child and as a young adult, buying from hawkers and non-South-African shops in the cbd. Treatment was often mediocre to bad but we bought there because they were affordable. This thing of painting everyone with a broad brush has to stop because it fuels division, intolerance and resentment. Everyone acts like they've never had good service from black South Africans. That can't possibly be true. Such sentiments also neglect the dynamics between local labour & employers. Employers are heavily prejudiced against local labour because of labour laws that set high expectations for them. When you treat your workers like a burden, it will show up in their work. Whereas, employers are overly biased towards our counterparts because they are usually over-qualified and open to exploitation. In turn, these workers are usually just happy to have a job and be in a better circumstance than back home. I personally know someone who is exploited by her rude, practically abus!ve, non-black employer but she won't leave because that job is the best she has to look after her family. It is also a fallacy to compare locals to other nationals. The better way is to compare South Africans working in other countries to non-locals working in South Africa. Locals in any country tend to be less motivated compared to others because they are either not as desperate for an income or as ambitious. It takes a specific type of person to venture into unknown territory in search of a better life. They take more risks and will do more for less because they don't have a safety net like locals. Even western countries have this dynamic. It is not good to allow our markets to be crowded out by unfair competition, especially as a developing country. Our people need to be trained adequately and given opportunities; not discarded for people who are overqualified and exploited. It is a pity that we have a government that chooses to pay grants instead of upskilling people and encourage self-sufficiency.
Those who have pains can see now that this country is going to be helped by the same people we thought they are not for us here.Here seems like like this country is going to be rescued by the same people . I cannot stress just how much more driven "in-general" other races are when put in positions of services by majority, there is just no contest and the fact that we are a majority does not do us any justice as black people and that hurts me a lot. True there are reasons but the fact that so little few try is a massive problem in itself.
@@Perry_Talion I have a different experience. I've had great service from everyone and bad service from everyone. Unlike most middle to upper class South Africans, who are usually the loudest on social media, I've lived among poor people and among more well off people. In more formal establishments, treatment is generally good but I guarantee you that in low-income and informal establishments, their service can leave much to be desired. Our people are often seen as cash cows and a nuisance. I experienced this as a child and as a young adult, buying from hawkers and non-South-African shops in the cbd. Treatment was often mediocre to bad but we bought there because they were affordable.
This thing of painting everyone with a broad brush has to stop because it fuels division, intolerance and resentment. Everyone acts like they've never had good service from black South Africans. That can't possibly be true. Such sentiments also neglect the dynamics between local labour & employers.
Employers are heavily prejudiced against local labour because of labour laws that set high expectations for them. When you treat your workers like a burden, it will show up in their work. Whereas, employers are overly biased towards our counterparts because they are usually over-qualified and open to exploitation. In turn, these workers are usually just happy to have a job and be in a better circumstance than back home. I personally know someone who is exploited by her rude, practically abus!ve, non-black employer but she won't leave because that job is the best she has to look after her family.
It is also a fallacy to compare locals to other nationals. The better way is to compare South Africans working in other countries to non-locals working in South Africa. Locals in any country tend to be less motivated compared to others because they are either not as desperate for an income or as ambitious. It takes a specific type of person to venture into unknown territory in search of a better life. They take more risks and will do more for less because they don't have a safety net like locals. Even western countries have this dynamic.
It is not good to allow our markets to be crowded out by unfair competition, especially as a developing country. Our people need to be trained adequately and given opportunities; not discarded for people who are overqualified and exploited. It is a pity that we have a government that chooses to pay grants instead of upskilling people and encourage self-sufficiency.

I am so hopeful these young South Africans from the DA, will show the others the way. I hope we will see tangible change! I want the constitution changed from a majority rules based system to collaborative government, where they are forced to Share power no matter the vote outcome!

GNU has indicated that as voters we can change the direction of this country...honestly I don't care much about who's heading which department just as long as they are working I'm in full support of them...
