  • A circular fisheye lens for mirrorless cameras with a very fast maximum aperture of f/2. It's not the kind of lens you'll be using every day, but it's cool, and at only £150, you could even be laughing. Let's see how the quality stacks up. It's available for Sony E-mount, Fuji X, Canon EOS M, and Micro 4/3 (but NOT Digital SLR cameras).

Excellent review of largest variety of lenses, including those that not many have even heard off, is the norm for you and this review is nothing short of that. Well done, as always. Hi, Christopher! My question will be a little bit off topic. A while ago You reviewed a Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 that was send to You from Mitakon. Could you please ask them to send to You a Mitakon Creator 35mm f/2 for fullframe DSLR? I've seen one or two reviews on UA-cam, but i would like this lens to be reviewed by someone i trust. I'm an amateur Canon shooter and i'm searching for a good 35mm focal lenght lens for $200 or less, since i'm on a budget and i will not going to make money from my photography. Canon 35mm f/2 is a bit to expensive for me and you have to stop it down to f/5.6 for good image quality.
I've noticed that there are plenty of options of 50mm lens and they are pretty affordable, while there are a few options of 35mm lens and they are relatively expensive, despite the fact that 35mm is a standart focal lenght (not a wide angle, which is harder to design).
I've watched a good part of Your reviews (if not all) and i like them alot. It would be awesome if You reviewed the Mitakon Creator. Thank You in advance and keep doing good stuff!!! It's very helpfull.
      (sorry for bad english)

Another great review. Looking for an inexpensive fish eye to pass the time (note the date). You have reviewed the Samyang 8mm and the Meike 6.5mm. Noting the focal length, aperture and angle of view differences (8/2.8/180 vs 6.5/2/190) and the UK price difference (Meike £130, Samyang £215), which is the more enjoyable to use and gives the better image quality. In short, if you had to chose for your personal use, which one? Thanks.

Can you compare it with the Samyang 8mm f/2.8 UMC ii? I really can't decide between having 2mm wider lens and a better quality lens (I suppose, since the Samyang costs 100€ more than the Meike)... anyway I want to shoot 360 pictures on APSC that's why I'm interested, but again I'm afraid that the Meike is just a toy.

Did you take any vertical astro photos? It's the best application for this, unless the field of view is under ~190 degrees. I just got a 7artesans aps-c full cover fisheye, I really think it's a better deal for general use. Pretty sharp corners with a bit of CA that corrects well on post. MFD is 12 cm. And it's cheaper. Cut some square crops from the circulars, could be interesting as a format.

When you're using it on a Fuji X-mount system, would you say your full circular picture is a perfect circle, or is it cropping it a bit ?
I understood it would crop in video mode, but in still photography what's your feedback ?
Would you say it would be a nice idea to use a speedbooster to get the full frame size on an APS-C format for shooting video with a full circle picture ?

For the price, this is the best gift any serious photographer can give it, to him/herself to create a lot fun images and with exceptional IQ and wide F number of this lens, even night images. In the right hand, a fisheye can even be used for wedding and portrait (Unlike every conventional knowledge out there). And I didn't made this statement. If you don't believe me, do your homework. Hi Christopher,
Thank you for reviews ! Your vlog still no.1 for me for choosing lens. Due to your recommendation I bought Meike 6.5 for my 360 vtours and still happy with this lens. But because of full circle frame on my Sony a6500 panoramas became not too beg resolution - about 7000px on long side. Thats why I'm interested on Meike 8mm f/3.5. Did you have a deal with it ? May be you could make a review for it ? Will be very thankful for that.
So I want to utilize my sensor in more effective way - cover it with image, not with black :)

I haven't tested the Meike one. I have tested the Samyang 8mm f/2.8 II though, which is excellent

Thanks Cristopher. For now I'm still happy with my Meike 6.5 but also have idea to buy 8mm it cost less than Samyang so why not to try. Everything satisfied me with 6.5 except of final size of 360 panoramas. I want to have at least 7000 or 8000px on long side. That's why still thinking about 8mm. Meike 6.5 is absolutely brilliant for 360 work. I did dozens of hundreds panoramas with different systems - prime lens from Nikon, Canon, Tamron, Sigma... But for now I use only Meike :) It is weird, isn't it ? :)

Maybe we should change a name to call "mirrorless", because now those days, "mirrorless" doesnt means "not Fullframe" anymore, so Mirrorless fullfreme also have. So, DSLR fullfreme = Mirrorless fullfreme quality. I think so.

What's the point of these useless lenses?

You might think they're useless, but other people quite like them. It's not all about you, you know! ;-)

Massimo Riley Cavalieri d'Oro I bought a cheap fish eye attachment on a whim thinking it'd be used once, but actually I've been able to get some quite creative framings from it that other lenses wouldn't have provided. It's perhaps not an everyday lens, but I'd say it is great for taking different photos

Massimo Riley Cavalieri d'Oro Think about 360° panorama images. With this lens, you could be there in just two shots.
