- A viewer journeys to Tokyo, Japan with the intention of buying a Rolex 16710 GMT Master 2 "Coke" on a Jubilee bracelet. Will he leave with a Rolex on the wrist?
UPDATE: By the time T got back home, the New York piece had already been snapped up by another customer! So, it's back to square one for him. Hopefully, in the future he can find a piece that checks off all of his boxes, and is also a 1989 L serial.

Great video, Austin. I’m glad he is taking his time. The chase is part of the fun!
Whoops
He who hesitates…….
Hey Austin. Great vid. How Can i get in contact with you ? Flying to Tokyo in a weeks time just to buy 2 birth year pieces
And thank you for such great vids
@watchsymposium same as above. I’ll be there in a week and would love your expertise trying to buy a Daytona - thank you for your content as ever!!!
Excellent video Austin. You are fast becoming my go to guy for older Rolex knowledge.
I am going to Tokyo next month, where is the best place to go for a 16710 Pepsi? You went to a couple places, just trying to see where I should go to pick one up.
Heh heh - you can lead a horse to water..!
Hi Austin I’m travelling to Japan in a few weeks I would like to purchase a second hand Rolex watch where would you suggest to go looking is there any cities or smaller towns that are cheaper than Tokyo I’m a backpacker so travelling to the top or the bottom of the country won’t be a problem! Thanks Callum😁
I'd say Tokyo has the best prices, because of the volume of watches here. Smaller towns don't have the inventory or turnover, and that translates to higher prices. Also, shops in Tokyo have to be more competitive with their pricing, because of the number of shops.
Great video Austin. Respect for helping the guy out.
Superb video! Really enjoyed it and your level of knowledge is spot on!
- The Rolex Green Hang Tag.
I can appreciate that it’s an absolute bonus to have ‘everything’ when it comes to a full set. But surely that Green Hang Tag is the most insignificant item of a full set. Its absence is never going to be a dealbreaker or affect the value of the rest of the set (providing the watch’s condition is of a very good standard). Would you agree?
Thanks!
Yes, I'd agree. It's just that it's so frustrating to get that close to a full-set, and miss it by just that!
Miss me with that faded bezel. I’m with T: the only thing I would take with a faded bezel would be one of those old Peter Fonda Root Beers and that is because that is the only condition those can be found in. Cokes are 100x more common and I’d want one as pristine as possible and would pay a premium for one. I prefer the Coke over the Pepsi, but have neither. I opted for the 2022 Batman instead.
Great vid Austin! Both great watches-I’m not too particular 😎. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍽 everyone!
I loved that video so much, it was like watching a master chef at work. The way they handled every element was so effortless and perfect, it was like they were dancing with the ingredients. And the final product was an absolute masterpiece, a symphony of flavors that left my taste buds singing. I'm so glad I watched that video, it was an experience I won't soon forget.
Thank you for another video, Austin. Have a happy holiday if you're celebrating.
This is great thanks for uploading
Get a Tudor save your self 10 grand and a whole lot of servicing 😂
I’m with Austin in probably the minority. I don’t really care for the Jubilee bracelet. I have one on my Sky-Dweller and as much as everyone touts its comfort, I am happy to have the Oyster bracelets on my other Rolexes. Now, I wouldn’t turn away a Jubilee by any means, but I’m not gaga over them and unless I was getting a Datejust or another Sky-Dweller (which are not on my want list), I’ll always go Oyster.
i cant stand the jubilee bracelet on professional watches
Hi Austin, thanks for your informative videos! I managed to get myself a Pepsi 16710 from Kame kichi, Nakano broadway a few weeks ago. I tried asking for help to purchase the original jubilee bracelet and the coke bezel and the all black bezel after the sale via email but I was unsuccessful due to the language barrier. They didn’t understand what I wanted and thought I was asking for a refund. I have since returned to Australia - are there shops in Japan that I can buy from? Many thanks! Aaron.
Have you called RSC in Australia? RSCs in different countries have different rules about switching out inserts. RSCs here in Japan and in the US are pretty liberal about it. RSCs in South East Asian countries less so. But it would be interesting to know what the ones in Australia say.
A serial but with green tag.
Hey Austin,
Great video. If one were to buy the watch at 10:00 and replace the bezel insert, would it then be a period correct insert?
Also, would this go for all GMTs with lugholes and SEL? I am looking for this exact match, i might be swapping inserts and own both an oyster and a jubilee bracelet.
Thanks for a great video
Great information. I have Japan on my list and would very much like to go watch shopping.
Well done Austin. Personally I enjoy the hunt and could always add a jubilee bracelet later or even finding bezels to make it easier. That’s why I absolutely love the 16710. I wonder if Rolex CPO will affect the supply of 16710s that are unpolished with all original parts
Rsc London wouldn't let me swap the bezel insert to a different colour but would let me swap my explorer ii dial from black to white
Which Explorer 2 reference?
Is there a charge?
Can you keep the dial?
I have the 226570 white and love to know if i can swap them in and out!
@@timemycollection I specifically asked for the previous reference. They said they'd charge for a complete overhaul service plus 200-300 for the dial. I didn't ask about the old dial
@@drkharfan6733 good to know
Thank you
Personally I would of went for the L serial with both bracelets and had it all including the year. Great video!
Hi austin , looking for a chip shop or area in tokyo (im already here) to buy a gmt and datejust , ive been all ready nakano brodaway but nothing realy chip, can you help me??? Please
Shinjuku and Shibuya have watch shops too, so check out those areas. Sorry, I don't have specifics, but you should be able to find the shops on Google.
Just been to Tokyo. Amazing place. Nakano Broadway was brilliant for watches.
Can you go snag that sweet-spot all back for me?! 😂
Good heavens I am enjoying your content Austin. I have a couple of motorcycle you tubers that have made my free time better. When it comes to 5 digit Rolex stuff you have become my go to. Even for pieces Im not looking forward to. Your content is just fun to watch. Thank you!!
Really nice comment, David - Thanks!
I personally would have bought the cheaper watch and then just added the insert and bracelet that I wanted. I am not a purist. The buyer seemed to think that this would have been a lot of trouble, but I would have just ordered the parts through my local AD and had them swap them when they came in. I am doing this right now where I ordered a 93150 bracelet for my 1978 5513 Sub. It's really not that hard, just requires some patience while the parts come in. RSC is a little less picky about ordering spare bracelets for vintage than they are for modern. I know, I just called RSC about a Jubilee for my 126710 BLNR and they said that was not an option for me to buy right now, separately.
I hear you, the hunt for additional 16710 parts is one of the things I love about them. And I think it's just a matter of time before any 16710 owner wants to experiment with different aesthetics. I am a purist, though as long as I have the original insert I'm alright with service ones. Although, I'm starting to feel the pull to add period correct ones!
Would love to meet up if in Tokyo. Love your videos.
also sake off Rolex go for a grand Seiko spring drive, don't hold there value on the second market but man are those beautiful watches and movement's
All you dreamers coming from USA to Tokyo to buy watches. People know what they have here. You get a little discount because of a strong dollar, but you're not finding your dream watch for 25% discount. Stick to posting Insta videos of yourself eating ramen on Takeshita street, and then go back home. Peace!
Great neo vintage hunting. Love the video! Keep it up
Great video Austin. Coming to Yokohama from the UK soon. Anywhere there you can suggest to look for a watch?
Great video! U mentioned RSC to buy jubilee bracelet, is that a accessories store for watches or repair? Where is that at coz I couldn’t find it?. Thanks!
RSC = Rolex Service Center, where you have your watch serviced. There's one in Tokyo, and most big cities have one. You'll need to have your 16710 in hand, as they won't just sell you the bracelet.
@@watchsymposium great! Good to know. Thank u!
@@watchsymposium I’m in the hunt to get GMT ii blk/blk the previous model, where do u think the best store to buy with excellent price? Thanks!
looking for a sea dweller , not the deepsea...wonder if is cheper in Tokyo or Hong Kong
Hey Austin, I'm going to Japan in April 2024 and I'm considering an Explorer II 16570, production year 2006-2010. Any idea how much it's going for at grey market dealers like Watchnian?
Hi Austin,
Thanks again for your video and insights .. next week heading to Tokyo … fingers crossed.
Unfortunately few stores have written back that they are closed for Christmas break :( e.g. Time Tunnel …
Was keen on a pre-owned Breguet … but now will go for Explorer 2 😀 … fingers crossed
Hi Austin, thanks for all your videos! I will be visiting Japan in March and will be shopping for a Batgirl. Do you know how much they are going for now?
Hey Austin, heading to Tokyo in late April this year. If you’re there would love to meetup and try to find a few pieces!
Sucks about the first one, the polishing looked very lazy/bad if the bevel on the lugs can be seen through youtube its very bad. Looked like they never bothered removing the bezel/glass when they polished.
Great vid!!!
Just fyi, all feedback I've seen in the last year is that RSC in the US will no longer sell you a separate bracelet. So you'd definitely want to confirm that before assuming it is still possible.
True! Purchased a 126710 batgirl 2023, when asked to purchase a oyster bracelet they said you can only buy the watch / not the bracelet. 😢
True, RSCs have different rules depending on the country. Japan is relatively lax when it comes to 5 digit pieces, but are more strict with the modern ones. (Maybe that has to do with Rolex Geneva doing their best to meet demand, and wanting their bracelets to go on new pieces, instead of being sold to customers who already have a watch?)
I wish I could buy into the Rolex hype but I just can’t feel it.
Amazing videos. What are the best places to sell watches in japan?
Good video. May i know where i can get good deal for Rolex Explorer Mark 2
I am currently in Tokyo and in the hunt for an entry level Rolex that is cheap and affordable
I put my Y serial number on an aftermarket jubilee. Works well for me.
Enjoyed this a lot Austin! I have a sister who lives in Tokyo and I’m very looking forward to go on a watch hunting trip with her there in the future so this video helps a lot.
Great video! It would have been helpful to see a new service bezel next to a vintage one to see the differences that you talk about.
Thank you doing the currency conversion!
Are you able to get Rolex Datejust units from Japan Authorised Dealers? Do they have stock?
No, they don't.
i thought you would have gone to the see the only one in tokyo and tried to negotiate ?
Have you been to the Seiko Museum in Japan? I am traveling there in November 2024 and have plans to visit. Not sure if it's worth the time?
Definitely worth a visit if you like watches and are a fan of Seiko.
Here is a video I made from my visit there: ua-cam.com/video/nvZ1TXweBPI/v-deo.htmlsi=hPNaYDE5Ld5MzHMX
Great video btw what is the name of store that you come?
Hi Austin, I just went to Nakano Broadway and it is definitely an interesting place. There was a 16710 Coke that caught my eye. Used, no B&P. Tax Free: 1,350,00Y (Price 1,485,000Y tax incl. / 1,441,000Y Cash tax incl.) Oyster bracelet. I wonder what you think of that price?
Just checking out Rakuten for a price comparison, and the piece you're considering is on the cheaper side. It could be a good buy if the case looks good, the bezel is original, and you're not fused about B&P.
@@watchsymposium Thanks for the reply. I think it's priced too low. I wonder what the catch is?
I saw you guys shopping at Nakano in Tokyo! Didn't want to bother you as you were talking to the dealer.
Funny - you would have been the third viewer that day that I ran into! Well, if it ever happens again, feel free to say hi!
What about import tax?
Excellent!
Polishing watches like that should be illegal!
Lol, I agree!
$60 in Thailand
Sure, a $60 watch with a $10 value.
3:00 Finally a valid reason to wear an omega. My favorite watch was 6:13, but if I was there with you (the expert) I would just let you decide for me!
Is it cheaper to pay cash than card when buying watches from second hand watch shop in Japan? If so, what percentage of discount can I expect? Thanks!
Come on who cares about the box of paper nonsense
