I think if you're going to use decals, I most definitely agree to use water slides or dry transfers only. The clear sticker types are okay, but if you're going to paint/top coat then water slide or dry transfer types are a must IMO.

i was watching this and set me thinking.. could you use the varnish and add a few strands of thin paint brush strands to create perpendicular grooves. so now when you snap the 2 joints together it becomes likes a ratchet action. never tried but could work!

What does top coating a Gundam do? I never really understand what it does.
It makes the colors pop out on the Gundam, it also slightly stiffens the joints which is great if the kit is fairly loose in the joints.
