      Not every #1 prospect can be the next Sid, Ovi, McDavid etc. Those guys probably go down as top 10 players all time. Even if these kids end up like Tavares or Stamkos, thats still pretty damn good. But we should remember just how rare the truly generational players are

    I really think Japan is a great place for hockey. A good part of Japan gets cold enough in winter for it and it seems like a lot of Japanese people in Canada, both those born in Japan and those born in Canada, really love hockey. Plus there's people like Ando and Iguchi who show that Japanese hockey players can be very good. I hope the NHL makes a legit attempt to grow hockey in Japan.

    • @kamomars
      @kamomars 4 роки тому +2

      I used to play hockey in Japan and Canada.
      There are many problems playing hockey for kids in Japan.
      First, rinks are very few rather than some regions.
      Second, the cost. Comparing with Canada, using hockey rink and buying equipments are very expensive. So I think playing hockey in Japan isn't top chioce for parents. Some part of Hokkaido is exception.

Disappointed as a Canadian fan but if you are a fan of the game, you realize that overall it bodes better for the game in the long run.

    Great video man was really well made! However, yusaku ando played in Quebec before playing in pursuit of excellence he played for a team called Somang Hockey that is known to bring many international players throughout the world to Canada for an opportunity to play a higher level of hockey. Whilst he was playing for somang, as a 14 year old Yusaku played for the u18 where he would dominate and develop as a player. Somang continues to do this and has even resulted in many players playing in a higher level after they leave this program. Once again great video man :)

    Thanks for mentioning Sean Day. Hopefully you’ll dig a little deeper and talk about one of the few, very few players granted exceptional status that hasn’t been a star. There’s still time but he’s played more games in the ECHL than the AHL. There’s story here. One that needs to be told. He’s the only one from that elite four player group that wasn’t a first round draft pick, Gretzky was a different situation. He’s the only one that’s been traded. Gretzky was a different situation. It’s not like a lot of other players have followed a similar path. Sean Day is unique. Again, a story that needs to be told.

At the age of 15, he played in U20 team and made his Finnish league debut last season as only 15 year old. I feel like how the sport has evolved throughout the past couple decades also kinda favours more of the European playstyle of hockey. The NHL for better or worse has been less and less physical by this I mean fights, certain hits becoming illegal you get the picture. European hockey has kinda always kind of had more of a finess to it and the North American answer was more aggressive. They kinda balanced. Now with the NHL becoming less and less aggressive you will see more Europeans thrive in the league. Just my opinion

    The biggest problem with hockey is that we have people who have never played the game (like this narrator) telling you what to like , what not to like and how things work. Based on ready a stats sheet.
    Most of these player will end up being fuck all. You can not compare point totals in Europe or Asia and then say that player will dominate in North America ... it just isn’t realistic.

    Hey Rob... have you looked into current Team Canada Junior player, Jordon Spence? Looks like he was born in Australia, moved to Japan as a kid, then came to Canada at 14!!! And today he's playing on the national team!! Not sure is he was a prodigy, but good story! Love your channel. Cheers.

    How about Mario Lemieux, who turned his own living room into an ice rink as a boy.
    Another TERRIFIC video Rob, and you have to give yourself benefit of the doubt with the 40K thing because I know that there is probably thousands of kids (like me) who would subscribe to you but their parents don't allow them to subscribe to youtube channels.
    Quite literally Rob, your videos are getting better every time.

      Just imagine if ovi had played during the same time as Gretzky and Mario ? His goal scoring would have been better than those two and not by a little. For a player to put up the numbers he does in this era is nothing short of amazing and yes he is without a doubt the greatest pure goal scorer in history
