Not every #1 prospect can be the next Sid, Ovi, McDavid etc. Those guys probably go down as top 10 players all time. Even if these kids end up like Tavares or Stamkos, thats still pretty damn good. But we should remember just how rare the truly generational players are
Idk how that’s scary. I love seeing the sport continue to grow in popularity. I’d love to see new teams competing for medals on the international circuit instead of the same 4 or 5 NA and EU teams.

I really think Japan is a great place for hockey. A good part of Japan gets cold enough in winter for it and it seems like a lot of Japanese people in Canada, both those born in Japan and those born in Canada, really love hockey. Plus there's people like Ando and Iguchi who show that Japanese hockey players can be very good. I hope the NHL makes a legit attempt to grow hockey in Japan.
I used to play hockey in Japan and Canada. There are many problems playing hockey for kids in Japan. First, rinks are very few rather than some regions. Second, the cost. Comparing with Canada, using hockey rink and buying equipments are very expensive. So I think playing hockey in Japan isn't top chioce for parents. Some part of Hokkaido is exception.
Which rink? I played at most rinks in the state growing up amd I'm curious lol (played for Big Rapids growing up.. Lots of traveling for being classified as a house team)
As a Canadian, I think the usa has a good thing going in their program. Lots of good young players these days. They've won the WJC the last 3 years in a row now beating canada at least twice. Disappointed as a Canadian fan but if you are a fan of the game, you realize that overall it bodes better for the game in the long run.
Great video man was really well made! However, yusaku ando played in Quebec before playing in pursuit of excellence he played for a team called Somang Hockey that is known to bring many international players throughout the world to Canada for an opportunity to play a higher level of hockey. Whilst he was playing for somang, as a 14 year old Yusaku played for the u18 where he would dominate and develop as a player. Somang continues to do this and has even resulted in many players playing in a higher level after they leave this program. Once again great video man :)

Thanks for mentioning Sean Day. Hopefully you’ll dig a little deeper and talk about one of the few, very few players granted exceptional status that hasn’t been a star. There’s still time but he’s played more games in the ECHL than the AHL. There’s story here. One that needs to be told. He’s the only one from that elite four player group that wasn’t a first round draft pick, Gretzky was a different situation. He’s the only one that’s been traded. Gretzky was a different situation. It’s not like a lot of other players have followed a similar path. Sean Day is unique. Again, a story that needs to be told.
