Getting tight and bracing correctly for the press is one of the trickiest skills to master. Great video!

Shouldn't the bar be racked on the delts and clavicles? Especially for a "heavy press".

Only if you have short forearms relative to your humerus and the bar just happens to align with the clavicle. Otherwise, either your wrists or elbows are drooping and getting sloppy like Pete’s talking about here.

@@MichaelShammasSSC I haven't measured the ratios, but I can rack with an open/fingertip grip like Olympian Gabriel Sîncrăian. It really helped with the torso power transfer in my jerk and push press.

@@khmak9387 Yeah, but the rack position here is the same as a strict press as opposed to either of those.

@@MichaelShammasSSC What I'm saying is that with an open grip, the rack position can be the same for all cases.

@@khmak9387 Yeah but you’re not cleaning the bar first in a press 2.0 like you would be in a jerk for example. Since that rack position would be inefficient for this purpose, we don’t use it.
At the end of the day you can rack the bar that way if you want to so you have uniformity across all kinds of presses, but you have to acknowledge that it’s less efficient.

You avoid sloppiness by not pressing the loopy way SS tells people to press
