- What should you take care of before a heavy deadlift? Starting Strength Coach Phil Meggers covers 6 simple and effective tips when preparing to pull heavy.
When lifting, we strongly recommend lifting shoes (see our video below on that topic). Here are some solid options:

It always amazes me when guys lift heavy with a hook grip. Years ago my thumbnail and I reached an agreement that I would not use a hook grip and it would stay attached to my thumb. Anything over 500lbs would make it feel like it was coming off. Mixed grip with my dominant arm pronated just feels natural now and no grip issues at all.
That’s reasonable, and a mixed grip is an excellent option.
Solid advice - thanks for sharing.🙏
I'd like to try a different barbell for deadlifting; my Ohio Power bar is just so darn stiff!
You’re very welcome. We don’t have any specialty deadlift bars at Testify, but I have trained on a deadlift bar a time or two when traveling, and they’re kind of fun. I’ve used the Texas Power Bars deadlift bar, and that was a nice bar.
@@TestifySC I'll give it a shot 👍
Having a cool doggo maybe helps too.
This is absolutely true.
Thanks! How about a heavy bench tips video?
You’re welcome, and that’s an excellent suggestion!
2:20 biggest fault you can make is that move with your back behind your center.
0:50 Guy deadlifting in weightlifting shoes, cardinal mistake, I stopped watching this video after that.
you can also stand on a weight plate to make it harder like that, but it's not bad as long as you know how it effects the lift
