Love the highly technical warning "DO NOT JAR, HANDLE LIKE EGGS". Very British.

6:47 "Ok, it was very complicated..." Haha, very familiar feeling! My concern with taking apart big complicated things like this is just the storage space required to properly store all the parts. I usually store things in little bags with notes in them, so that I remember what's what. I have a physically large power supply from an F-15E radar that I've been hesitating to take apart for the same reason... too complicated, far too many parts, and I'm running low on space. Thanks for the demo, very cool! Are there any drawbacks from using a 2-phase + neutral PSU for 3-phase power? I do have a high power 3-phase PSU (315ASX) but I've been wanting to find time to reverse-engineer a little actuator controller for a horizontal stabilizer from KGS which takes in DC and outputs 2-phase power, to maybe use it as a little inverter. My recent work has been in a completely different domain, so it becomes a time problem as always unfortunately..

To maybe add to this.. maybe a Scott-T transformer can be used in reverse to convert 2-phase to 3-phase, eliminating phase imbalance issues?

    - 0:04: Introduction, presenting a large avionics item: a gyro reference unit, type B.
    - 0:12: Unit was used in the British Blackburn Buccaneer aircraft.
    - 0:18: Rotorace gyro inside; consists of an outside cylinder and an inner gyro.
    - 0:30: Inner cylinder is attached to main cylinder via shock absorbers.
    - 0:41: Mentions difficulty in opening the unit.
    - 0:48: Identifies two big connectors and a ground connection.
    - 1:02: Shock absorbers accessible by removing covers.
    - 1:37: Uncertainty about whether parts are soldered.
    - 1:47: Notices silicone sealing.
    - 1:59: Removes three screws.
    - 2:06: Plans to remove silicone to separate cover.
    - 2:47: Discovers multiple gyros inside and a large ball bearing.
    - 3:30: Notices an aneroid capsule, possibly for pressure detection.
    - 3:44: Observes synchro transmitters, a potentiometer, and a motor.
    - 4:02: Describes removing connectors.
    - 5:34: Removing an assembly was a bad idea; damages brush contacts.
    - 5:55: Discusses a pressure detector.
    - 6:23: Mentions a stuck screw, considers drilling.
    - 6:51: Finally accesses internal assembly, shows two gyros.
    - 7:53: Describes the gyros' various components and functions.
    - 8:56: Discusses uncommon features like a rotary transformer and an angular position pick-off.
    - 9:18: Explains the gyro assembly.
    - 10:03: Demonstrates the Rotorace in action.
    - 10:33: Discusses special ball bearings for the Rotorace.
    - 11:10: Talks about the wiring of the AC motor.
    - 11:36: Conducts a test by connecting the gyro to a power supply.
    - 13:04: Concludes the video, thanks viewers.

Thanks to Iron Lady for the extermination of almost the entire British industry. Smeared its own high-quality British boots? Ah, excuse me...
I just look at this old beauty of engineering and wonder how this could be done.
