Reaction with hydrogen peroxide is used to produce peroxydisulfuric acid ("persulfuric acid") and peroxydisulfates. These are used as oxidizing agents and for initiating free radical polymerization, for example to produce polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon).
The worst lab incident I've had involved HSO3Cl. I was weighing out a 1 kg portion for the synthesis of an aromatic sulfonyl chloride on ~500 g scale, and someone made a really loud noise behind me. This resulted in me "jumping" and throwing the acid all over my lab coat, utterly destroying it. I was extremely lucky that none of the acid made it through the lab coat to my clothes or skin, but it still scared the hell out of me.
It seems like "had to be disposed of" in this case meaning "had to be exploded all over the ground/vaporized into large clouds of dangerous acid I just let go wherever."
Very nice! Your choice of music for the finale reaction was awesome! As always it was a great day recording this with you! I hope there will be lots more stuff like that in the future!
What an absolutely amazing video! Yall had wayyy too much fun hahaha. This is honestly a chemist's dream, just messing around with tons of lethal & pyrophoric chemicals with, what looks like, absolutely no regard to life. I had so much fun watching this but couldn't help & wonder how much money did you spend on the two chemicals.
This was amazing!!! The reactions were sooo f’n beautiful, it’s so wonderful to get to see this stuff. As I’m watching the reaction I’m just in awe, what a privilege it is to witness. It blows me away that we can take two fluids, combine them, and then we get fire, we get heat, we get light, we get all these wonderful colors, it’s all so incredible intense, the atmosphere getting there and the show, it’s all so worth it, so glad You shared so we get to see all the powerful forces come out to play like this.
This is cool and looks like a good time. How do you go about making safe the area and equipment when theres all kinds of dangerous chemicals and by products all over?
"Always Add the Acid" - Proceeds to add a bottle of Coke ! Pretty interesting experiments. I often wondered how damaging those smoke screens were to their ships and crews. All that Hcl and all that steel...
I would rather poke at 🐻 or an 🐊 then the mess with those chemicals. the idea of my skin melting off with the slightest contact is terrifying. Seeing the super acid and super base being combine was just amazing
Really cool and spectacular! As someone with only the most basic grasp on chemistry (high school) it would be really cool if you could blend in the name of the chemicals when you say them/ first mention them. To the untrained ear sometimes it is a little bit difficult to follow. Keep up your good work!
Thank you! And thank you for the feedback! I really like when people tell me what they would change in the videos :) I often don't think about the fact, that many viewers might not know the chemicals used. I will try to add the names and structures in future videos.
No scientific value? I think since you recorded a bunch of reactions with an acid it is scientific. Remember, the only difference between science and screwing around is writing it down! -Adam Savage
Thanks! And yes, we absolutely thought about that. All remaining acid has been neutralized with calcium carbonate. The hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid cloud being released in the air will quickly be diluted to a non detectable concentration. As a comparison: a few years back, a ship carrying sulfuric acid capsized on a German river. They had to release 1000 tons of sulfuric acid in the river to recover the ship. And it posed no risk to the river or drinking water. Due to the immense dilution.

i suppose this has been the start of your way to your fatal labor experiment leading you your way to be a supervillain?
To go to the utter depths of insanity... would a super piranha solution be possible with Chlorosulfonic acid in place of sulfuric acid?
Trying to neutralize this acid must be one of the worst experiences possible
😅😅😅😅 you know it Has to be absolutely terrible that’s a job I don’t wanna mess with

Very interesting! Thank you for the additional information!
It´s been a pleasure doing these crazy cool experiments with you and elias!
The worst lab incident I've had involved HSO3Cl.

Oh that's horrible! I'm glad you made it out of that okay.
@@KrazyKyle-ij9vb yeah me too, if any had gotten on my skin I could've been seriously injured. Definitely got lucky.
1:27 Places bowl under the beaker to collect spilled acid
The acid: *sprays all over the place*
Yeah... didn't go according to plan. :D
How do you COMPLETELY clean the area to keep pets, kids or whomever from happening upon the waste?
For this one could probably just wait a while, then spray baking soda water on it...

Thank you! You would have to ask elias experiments about the exact cost of the chemicals. But I can tell you this much: they weren't cheap. :D
I'm curious how the trees are doing in this area. I use 35% HCL as a weed killer and plants don't seem to like the stuff.
When life gives you lemons burn them with chlorosulfonic acid!
Who doesn't love a combustible lemon😂
2:25 ah yes the safety inspectors nightmare, flying chlorosulfonic acid 😭
Love this video! It's a cool combination of the DIY nature of Cody's Lab and the exotic chemicals of ChemicalForce!

I see, you are indeed binge watching my videos :D I appreciate it!
Holy crap, that exploding coke bottle was sketch city. Nothing like droplets of a super acid spaying about but with no determinate trigger.
There aren't enough videos about ClF3. You should make one!
How did you even got those chemicals in germany?
Because you know I'm all about that base, 'Bout that base, no cowbell.
What you guys do is awesome and mighty brave. Stay cautious in your endeavors so you can post many more shows.
This is cool and looks like a good time. How do you go about making safe the area and equipment when theres all kinds of dangerous chemicals and by products all over?
the last reaction was amazing btw
Very nice, as always. All I've got left to say is: So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!
I think there is a scientific value you may have neglected: the awesomeness factor.
Haha, true!
"Always Add the Acid" - Proceeds to add a bottle of Coke !
Pretty interesting experiments. I often wondered how damaging those smoke screens were to their ships and crews. All that Hcl and all that steel...
I heard it can dissolve the candle wax
Pouring the butyllithium like that has to be a deathwish. that’s so fucking scary
Wow! Found my new favorite channel
I'm happy you like the videos!
I would rather poke at 🐻 or an 🐊 then the mess with those chemicals. the idea of my skin melting off with the slightest contact is terrifying. Seeing the super acid and super base being combine was just amazing
At least you got some bang for the buck. I would not have heart to spoil such precious reagents though.
Bros playing with "liquid delete"...
Is that a children's playground? Now that is a bit disturbing
So the real question is why do we need chemicals like this what are they used for

I don't even want to know how much 5 liters of that acid costs
can you mix it with hydrogen peroxide to make a super piranha solution?
Wie wäre es mit einer Vakuum Destillation von chlorsulfonsäure 🤔
Holy mushroom clouds Batman!
"other platforms" :D
Its the dilithium crystals captain, they cannae take it !!😊
I remember having synthesized this "devils piss" at uni....
This may be a viable fuel pair for a rocket engine.
Is it possible to mix with piranha solution?
Knowledge is power 👍😎
Mentos can make a softdrinks goes up in the air
Chlorosulfonic acid can make the whole bottle go up in the air.
Magnesium powder
what did the poor apple do
imagine having a larger fire with this stuff
erinnert michh an die Bratensoße meiner Schwägerin…. war genauso tödlich!☝️😆
mal wieder ein super video!
Nice next try triflic acid lol
This is why aliens don't want to visit us
that music is so random at the 6min mark
Now you have a lot of acid washed sand 😃
Lol, glorious fire!
Wie kann das legal sein ,wenn schon Salpeter Säure Gewerbepflichtig ist.

интересно!Спасибо.
Makes you wonder how many chemists got burned working with stuff like this in the early days?
"Alles?
Von mir aus."
Gerne hin und wieder mehr Videos ohne wissenschaftlichen Mehrwert
Could you use this as rocket fuel?
How can you waste so many reagents 😂
American blender? Lol
This is exploding of money
The German method
I think that is really cool what you do, but do you ever thought about the pollution in the environment you do these experiments in?

Great I've found a new way to lite my BBQ
Can you also try HClO4? I think there are lots of myths.
