Just discovered your content and I can truly say you already helped me. I thought there was something wrong with me feeling anxious before any wonderful outdoor activity! I knew I would enjoy it but still was anxious...now that I know I am not the only one that feels that it seems less powerful over me! Thank you so much!
so great to hear that- You are definitely not alone. I think it is more common than folks share. It is funny how when you share your vulnerability it gives permission for others to speak up too. Makes us real people I think.Wishing happy times ahead for you.
Yes, to know what it is, makes it easier. For me, I see it as a fear of the unknown, and I try to cope. As you say, I know it will be wonderful once I get there.
I chuckled when I saw the name "Wendy Outdoors," as I too am Wendy, who loves to be outdoors! This Wendy is a HUGE chicken and hasn't done a solo trip.....yet! When I saw where you were camping 😮 I thought how brave you really are! My husband and I were there this past summer and toured the Island. We loved Strathcona so much. However, I'm acutely aware of the island having the highest density of mountain lions in North America, and that had me on edge for a day hike. I wish to find your level of inner peace/strength! Happy Hiking to you!😊
thank you so much Wendy- So glad you were able to visit my home area. As for the mountain lions- I have only ever seen one once and I was in the car. They are very elusive. Black bears are far more common and away from the crowd they are usually quite "well behaved" and run away. Do hope you can make it back again. Strathcona Park is wonderful. Enjoy the outdoors in whatever way it works for you. Appreciate you sending your comments along- love to hear from folks like you.
Hi Wendy, I just came across a video I missed. How beautiful this trip was😊 the colors were natures splash on the canvas of memories. Liked the bill on your cap😊thank you for always sharing your thoughts❤
What a nice spot. For those with anxiety about the woods maybe a dog they make the best hiking partner they always want to go where you want to go and they never complain.
I have the exact feeling of solo trip like you, I have done lots of solo trips abroad in countries I don't familiar with the languages & culture. I am envy what you do with camping, canoeing etc. by yourself and I work towards that, watching your videos gave me strength to pursuit, thanks for sharing !
Thanks for sharing. There are many ways to enjoy this world as you have discovered. Travel is one. I am grateful I have many places in nature close by. Not all are so fortunate. Safe travels
So glad I found your channel Wendy! Maybe you should organize a women’s solo camping weekend. So many of us are inspired by your confidence and love of nature. Lifted my spirits this weekend binge watching your videos!
Beautifully well-done video, thank you! I’m also a woman who loves camping, and I agree with you, the solitude out in nature is sooo peaceful. Never been backpacking, but working my way up. Been solo camping a couple times in state parks, next is dispersed car camping. I camp with my corgi, he’s not going to be of much help in a true emergency but at least he can alert me if someone’s approaching.
thanks Marilyn, we do what we can. I realized the other day that it wasn't about kms or miles it was about the joy of just doing it. Just being out there and loving it. thanks again.
So nice to see my neck of the woods! I spend a lot of time in Strathcona Park as well as the North Island. Another Wendy here who has really enjoyed solo hiking trips! But I have noticed in the last couple years that I have more nervousness for sure, and nothing has specifically happened to cause it. Once I'm on the trail I'm usually fine and then loving being out there by myself. Trying to get outside of my head to commit to a multi-day solo I want to do to celebrate turning 60 this year. Glad I'm not the only one with these inconvenient nervous feelings! 🙂
Hello to another Wendy. I love Strathcona Park- what a gem to have so close to us. It is good to know there are others of us who have felt the changes of aging although you are much younger than me-lol. We do have to just kick ourselves out the door some times. I hope you can do your multi day trip if that is your goal. I am working on that myself. Take care. Perhaps I will see you on the trail!!
Really appreciate your comments. It encourages me to continue. The beautiful scenery is what does it. Can't really lose when Nature is the star. Thanks again.
the quiet is always welcomed when I am out in the forest... it's a joy you just can't explain :D being with nature is a blessing for sure ...Beautiful Place by the way :D!
What a beautiful hike! The scenery and colors were gorgeous in both the sun and rain 😍. I am so glad you mentioned the pre-trip anxiety! I thought I was alone in that. It always melts away into such peace and joy once I’m out, but it is a hurdle I have to get past before most excursions. Thanks for bringing us along!
Wendy, I think you are well prepared for a variety of possibilities, plus you have a lot of knowledge. You got some good photography genes! Lovely colors indeed.
Colours are spectacular! All the times we've been to Van. Isl. and we've never explored Strathcona Park - must put that on our itinerary soon! I relate 100% to what you said about feeling apprehensive in the planning and preparation stage, but once you get out there and get going, it mostly vanishes and is replaced by overwhelming awe!
I have always wanted to go solo camping but never have. You have motivated me to make it happen! I have just gotta do it! Thank you for sharing with us. My new fave youtube channel
Don't let fear prevent you from enjoying life. Life is short. Also safety is first priority in every situation. Do your research before you go camping and hiking.
I am really enjoying your program. You are a very uplifting, intelligent, highly intelligent look like a teacher and appreciate nature in spite of the dangers you’re brave so thanks for sharing your life.💁🏼♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️🐬
I love seeing the different colours of autumn here in subtropical Australia we don't get the colour change's all of our native plants are ever greens. I'm looking forward to our summer and getting outside more
Great to see you out! The meal looked delicious! You absolutely are staying younger. You are right, the more you do it, the more confident. Here’s to a couple more. ATB
Hello Mark- The meal was great, I was also hungry-Yes, the more you do it the better it is but funny how I still question it. However, once I am out there I always celebrate. One day at a time and 1 trip at a time. We never know what lies ahead. Celebrate the moment. thanks
Thanks for sharing your feelings about solo camping. I agree that the initial anxiety can be overcome, once you're taking in the peaceful beauty that fills the heart and mind. I really appreciate your videos.
Hi Wendy Nice to see you have a video up , picture postcard views love the boardwalks gorgeouse fall color's . I agree being out in nature does keep you young.going out on your own builds confidence . Beautiful fall camping video I love it Thank you.
My biggest fear is usually getting to my camp site before dark if I’m going to a new area. Once I’m familiar with a site, I generally don’t have any other fears. I love going solo so I get to make all the decisions based on how I feel.
Love your channel Wendy. The quiet is so wonderful when alone. Not many people get to experience our joy. Lucky us. Lovely colors on your hike. Natures garden.
i’ve only just discovered your videos and am sooooooo grateful! i’m already learning so much, and also learning that i’m not the only one who sometimes feels anxiety leading up to a trip. liked and subscribed!!!!!😊
Ever so happy to have you onboard. I love hearing from people. The outdoors community is wonderful. As for the anxiety, I talk about it because it is real and many of us experience some of those feelings. It is quite common but not often acknowledged.
I don't think it matters exactly what or how each of us challenges ourselves and how we get out. What really matters is that we do whatever it is that works for us. Glad to hear that another person is doing what they love. Thanks for reaching out and sharing.
Thanks for sharing this trip and your thoughts on anxiety. I haven't gone out there by myself yet but plan to this year. I have trepidation around more things as I've gotten older and it befuddles me. I was thinking maybe what makes me anxious is being vulnerable. I'm putting myself out there, alone, no matter the activity. It helps reading the comments that this is pretty common.
Start off with small solo hikes and work your way up. I was SO anxious on my first solo hike but was on top of the world when I finished. You can do it!
Wendy, those colors were magnificent! I am so happy to see you out backpacking! You are really an amazing person! I haven’t done a solo trip yet. Not sure that I would enjoy being alone in the woods at night. I’ve gone car camping alone but I have the safety of my car. You are so brave! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for commenting Heidi- You are generous in your praise- Sometimes I don't really enjoy the night either-lol !! The main thing is to enjoy yourself, however that works for each person. Happy car camping, nothing wrong with that.
And to think there are people who would rather set on their couches and not see these sights or experience this freedom. Do you like your durston? I like mine. It's a great value for a good, light weight tent. To me, there's nothing like starting on a trail. It's a deep refreshing breath of life.
Wendy, hello from the Missouri Ozarks! Thanks for taking us along, beautiful fall colors and great camp site! The meal looked delicious. You are quite an inspiration. Will be watching for your next video production. Stay strong, stay wild and Happy Fall!
You are so inspirational to me - thank you so much for these wonderful videos! I love them and am getting ideas for expanding my outdoor adventures. My husband and I do a lot of tent camping but he doesn’t always want to go when I do so I’m thinking of branching out. I have a couple of questions - how much does you pack weigh? And this will sound funny but I’m wondering what French music you like - I have studied French a lot but sure need to learn more. I love CBC!
My pack on that trip weighed in with water and food at 22 lbs. I have no idea what French music was playing. I was just trying to make noise. lol--- CBC does it all!!
@@wendyoutdoors2230 you’ve done very well to keep the weight to 22 lbs. And you carry it very well :) So one more question 🙋♀️- do you do strength building exercises?

I enjoy watching your adventures! I camp solo in my minivan with my dog. We have such a great time.

Thank you so much Mary- it was a real treat being there.
What a nice spot.
For those with anxiety about the woods maybe a dog they make the best hiking partner they always want to go where you want to go and they never complain.
You are right about not complaining. I have a very old dog and he isn't up for the task but it would be fun to have one along.

So nice to see a senior really enjoying their golden years. My husband and I are staying active in our 70s, hiking, biking, , sailing.
thanks Marilyn, we do what we can. I realized the other day that it wasn't about kms or miles it was about the joy of just doing it. Just being out there and loving it. thanks again.

My hiking friend, who is also a Wendy, hikes Strathcona every summer!
I think I may have heard from her earlier! thanks shannon.
You did! I sent your video to my Wendy and she said you told her she was very young! Sooo..she loves you and you're her new favorite person lol!

there are many plusses to being alone for sure. I agree about getting there before dark. 👍
Wendy… I also turn to CBC radio for company!😊
Yes, but how well does it work to scare away the bruins?? haha. Seemed to work the other day. So important to keep a sense of humour.
Beautiful area - love your adventuresome spirit🥾 ⛺️
I am most fortunate and thank you
Beautiful scenery presented by a beautiful soul, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it. The colours were wonderful. I hope to repeat this hike this fall🤞

In this park do you have to pay a fee to camp overnight? The colors and view were gorgeous!
Yes, there is a back country fee- I think it was $10 Canadian a night per person. I deal from my point of view.
Your eyes were really red while you related the growl in the bush...never seen that on you before...alright?
I hadn't noticed! Maybe you are right- I certainly did perk up David- thanks for that- made me laugh!
🇧🇷
and again- double thanks
I used to feel more confident if I had a couple of dogs with me.
