- Come along with me as I bake my first lasagna on my combination twig stove and billy can /oven. It turned out to be much easier than I would have thought and it was delicious. I used my Bushbox lf twig stove , a baking kit from Firebox , my billy can and some briquettes along with some yummy homemade tomato and ground beef sauce. #fireboxbakekit #bushboxlf #campfirecooking
Yay Wendy...you're voice is back. Happy you got things tweaked and working again!
Thank you so much!
I love outdoor cooking and happy to see the video on lasagna.
Hi Carolyn- hard to turn down a gooey lasagna for sure. I was the happy recipient of that lunch!
Wendy, what a great idea for a camp meal, lasagna! Love your twig stove set up with briquettes. I often dehydrate sauce for spaghetti but will definitely try lasagna with pre cooked noodles. Can’t wait to try this set up with my Solo pot! Thank you!
Lasagna looks great Wendy. Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays❤️🎄
Thank you and Happy Holidays to you too!
Nice.I'll be interested to see what you end up with@@wendyoutdoors2230

Yes! Thank you Marie . happy holidays to you as well.

You are one of my idols - no joke. It's so cool to see you out camping and being in the outdoors. I'd like to be able to do that one day too 😀
thank you so very much- I hope one day you can too!
Aren't you clever! Good for you, Wendy! I appreciate you trying that out for us; it's so interesting to find out what's available, if you only knew. Good to see you. Have a very happy Christmas, and best hopes for a bright New Year.
thanks you so much- have a wonderful holiday season yourself-
Hi good to see you again 😀. Thank you for the video
Thank you so much for watching!
Could almost smell it too!😊
It was wonderful! Love it when something works!
Your joy, seeing this work, so reminds me of my gf Jody & I, when we figured out ways to bake, during our husband's & our camping trips...it definitely was trial & error, but it so satisfying when you finally figure out exactly what to do to achieve the results you want. Our trial & error, mostly led us to burying things to cook them, with heat on the top & heat on the bottom. We also employed a cast iron Dutch Oven, that could be used directly on the camp fire, with some more hot coals on top...both methods served us well & we enjoyed a lot of different foods this way. These are definitely not for backpacking...I so agree that these are wonderful ideas for car camping or picnics. We were lucky, in that, we were not doing backpacking, or we could never have enjoyed the fun of experimenting with different ideas & foods. I'm so happy for you, Wendy...keep on trying ways to get the results you want!! The whole idea is to get out & enjoy doing different things. I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday season too...Happy New Year, as well. Blessings to you, Bob & Milo too! 🙏♥🐾
thanks so much Janet- I loved hearing about your experiences. The adventure of trying new things is really the best part- so much experimentation is great fun. Thank you for your best wishes to us all- the same to you.

❤wendy❤ this was Awesome🎉 so happy i got to see new vid befor christmas❤❤❤
Many thanks to you.
Fabulous!
Nice to see you again Wendy!
Thank you for this great recipe and how to do it!
What is the size of your Billy can please?
It is a 2 quart 14 cm- Ideal for 1-2 people. They make a bigger one and firebox makes a larger cook set for it.
Delicious looking lasagna Wendy, and I really like that oven! I’m thinking for hiking a lightweight option you could absolutely use is a canteen cup with lid to do a small single serve lasagna and several of those briquettes in your little wood stove. I’ve made chicken pot pie in my canteen cup using 2 pillsbury biscuits pulled apart to make the top crust. The briquettes on the lid of my canteen worked perfectly to give me the flakey golden brown crust.
I caught myself smiling when you finally heard it bubbling. I was doubtful this would work but boy was i wrong! Thanks again for taking the time to film this for us. Happy Holidays
It was so rewarding to hear that bubbling sound, wasn't it? Happy Holidays!
Lol, that was fun! Love those experiments... French bread to soak up any leftover sauce, gotta love it. I think you could also bake a few cookies for dessert 😅
I know! Cookies would be awesome!
Yes! In the Netherlands much sad weather 😢.
You have the sun and a beautiful experiment 😊.
Enjoy the moment and to you too peaceful holidays and i hopefully see you soon.
thank you Wilma- Yes , a good day between storms and more forecast --- well, at least we are doing well and have a good roof over our heads. thank you for your well wishes and the same to you. Have a great holiday season
Ahhh that’s much better to have your voice back. You did a wonderful job making your lasagna. Looked very yummy. Thank you and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Take care
Thanks so much- Merry Christmas to you too Brenda. I so appreciate you came back and checked it out again. Twas a bit of a battle for this old gal!!!
Oh my gosh, Wendy! I’m drooling. I love watching you cook on your stove! I will be fixing some lasagna today( in my house)😊
Thanks so much, hope you enjoy making your lasagna Lola- It is the best most comforting winter food . All those wonderful aromas!!! Enjoy!!!
Very neat!

Wendy, Wendy sooo glad to see you I commented earlier but then something happed to you voice? So glad it's fixed😊The lasagna looked yummy and I could smell it here in Okla. I thing you need to market your dehydrated meals 🫠 Have a blessed Christmas and see you again. 🌲❤
Thank you for watching and happy holidays to you Mary. love that you continue to support this channel
Way to go, Wendy! Thanks.
Thank you very much Raelene.
❤ I could almost smell 5hat, looks wonderful! Thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I actually waved my arms around when I found your video with your normal voice - lol! That feature would be great for folks where English is a second language. And I love the content of your video - made me hungry! A thought - would a piece of foil on top of the briquettes on the top hold in some heat - if appropriate? Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy your New Year, also!
I'll keep that foil tip in mind- thanks for your suggestion Gillian, I'll give it a try. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas as well!
Hi Wendy: It was fun watching you you bake your twig stove lasagna. It looked mighty tasty and made my mouth water! How wonderful it must be to enjoy eating your lasagna with the warm sunshine and pine-scented air. Thanks for sharing and Happy Holidays to you and your family. 🎄⛄🎅 Jenny
It was a lovely day for cooking! Happy Holidays to you too Jenny! I look forward to sharing the outdoors with you again in 2025. Many thanks
@@wendyoutdoors2230 You're welcome Wendy. I made homemade burritos for dinner tonight. I haven't done that in many years and it was really good.
Mmm, looks so good - I can almost smell it! I love that you use your spare time to do things like this!
Much Holiday Happiness to you ❤
Thank you! It was delicious Cathy and yes, it makes those long winter days a bit more enjoyable!
Wow Wendy, that was great. Perfect idea for a hike or camping. I absolutely love it. I may even have to try this out at home. I did get out on a snowy hike weeks ago and used my little stove on top a mountain ridge overlooking the river. Beautiful views of a snow covered canyon with soup and a cup of hot tea that helped warm me up for the hike back. I’ll have to look into the ‘billy box’ ? for baking. I already have the twig stove. I don’t like missing any of your videos but I somehow missed this one and I tell you, I was supposed to watch your videos toady became they sure have helped me get out of this funk (snowed in and not able to explore nature) I’m in. I’m going to look in your description for the box and head out to the garage in a bit to look over the camping gear, maybe organize a bit better but mostly plan and dream. Thank you so much for the videos. Take care.
Hi Julie- I love a hike with a stop for a hot drink- Some how it turns it into a special adventure. Pausing to sit and enjoy the view has huge benefits, especially with a warm cup in your hands
Really appreciate the insights in this video.
thanks very much
Hi Wendy! This was such a fun video! I enjoy seeing you try new things like this. Now that our fire ban has been lifted, I’m going to make a Dutch oven stew over this fire pit. Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year!
That's great! Good to hear you can cook over a fire again. I love that part of camping but we are experiencing more fire bans than in the past
Loving all the things you've been able to do with the bush box!
so much fun. A great way to spend winter time here in the wet west coast. . Thank you
Looks yummy
It was so good! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing, Wendy! Have a Very Merry and Blessed Christmas!! 🎄
Thank you! You too!
Another excellent video, Wendy, and a successful experiment. Thank you for sharing. I hope you have perfectly lovely holidays❤
thank you very much Belinda. I wish the best for you as well.
yay, good to see that you got some of Firebox Stove's excellent baking accessories. I find that chunk charcoal burns for longer and does not choke up the little stove with ash. You inspire me to try some outdoor baking!
thanks- It is lots of fun to try different things. not sure if I can find that kind of charcoal but will keep my eyes open
@wendyoutdoors2230 you can get it at Canadian Tire
Fantastic video, really appreciate your effort!
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch Mindy- thank you
Happy Belated Solstice, Wendy! That looked utterly delicious. Thanks for showing us your experiment.
It was such a fun experiment Ann. Ever so glad you could come along once more.
Loved the content, keep it coming!
will keep trying- thanks
Thank you for this video, very enlightening!
I’m glad you found it helpful. I hope you enjoy making your own some day Mary.
Merry Christmas Wendy!

It certainly was Karen- I really enjoyed the whole process from prepping, baking and eating!!
Brilliant ... well done you, always enjoy your videos many thanks.
Appreciate you taking the time to watch Vanessa thanks so very much
looks delicious Wendy Your making me hungry !!
It was so good Dawn--Thanks for watching!
Wendy! You embody everything that is incredible!
I have a question, if I may
Have you been anywhere in the Caribbean? If yes, or not; would you like coming back?
I wonder how the experience for us viewers would be like, seing you roasted by the sun, in a good way😅. Although we have everything, including cold weather in altitudes.
Canadá is breathtaking, but I'm afraid of the cold 😅
I was born in Venezuela but live in the Dominican Republic. I am starting to go places and immerse myself in nature. It's hard to understand sometimes how is it that we're privileged enough to see and perceive all the beauty. I always wish everyone had the chance to feel at peace by just looking at nature. These videos definitely help!
Thank you for sharing ❤
thanks you for your interesting comments- I have never been to the Caribbean- I have been to some other hot climates though and I do agree that is it wonderful to warm. I am with you totally in the wonder of being immersed in nature and just sitting there in awe and appreciation, Yes, a perfect sense of peace.
Happy New year wendy. We finally camping again for the 2nd time . camping in summer down south (lovely temperature not too cold)of Perth Australia different from last camping 3 yrs Autumn in Easter wet & cold. This time around by more prepared. Only down side no outdoor wood burning fire ban only can use stove to cook. Adventure time family of 3.
That is great- I hope your family continues to have wonderful times camping! I just got out in my hot tent- should have a video up in a few days. Pretty cool though! Needed my tent stove!!
That looks so much fun. Happy Hoildays Wendy
It really is, thanks so much! Happy holidays and the best for 2025 to you.
It looked yummy. I'm glad you didn't burn your tongue. That's what often happens to me with a pasta meal.
good point- it was hot!!! lol
Looks delicious!
It was so good! thanks a lot for watching
looks very yummy
It was so good! I was very pleased Dana- thank you
Wonderful video, Wendy! Thanks so much for sharing your brilliance!
Have you tried any of the lightweight solar cookers? They work take a little longer, but work fine for dishes like this, and you can walk away and leave them, without fear of starting a fire.
No , I have not but should investigate that idea. Thank you Christi.
Merry Christmas!! If you celebrate it😊 I am prepping to go post Christmas shopping. I'm curious about what day pack you like to use? Thanks!!
thanks Amy- I am presently looking for another day pack- My older one was a "no Name " which was ok but not really big enough and not very comfortable. I am interested in another Gregory pack- Maybe the 20 litre. Sorry, I can't help you yet as I am making a change. My main pack is a Gregory for women pack which I have really like so will see. thanks for watching Amy
Nice.I'll be interested to see what you end up with
looks good MERRY CHRISTMAS
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too Phyllis
I can’t wait to see you make bread :)
Hi Liza- I have thinking about that and will likely do that soon. thanks for th suggestion.
i love your videos and have been almost through all of them. i wonder if you have any suggestions of people you enjoy to watch that might be similiar ? I really like you are closed to my age and that you are in canada and a woman. I really find listening and watching you so calming.
thank you Sylvia- One of the main reasons I started this channel was because I couldn't find any older women out there doing what I like to do. @girlinthewoods -Brooke Whipple (American)was an inspiration to me and continues to be so. She is much younger than me but still a role model in many ways. @alexisoutdoors (canadian) now @careenaalexis was also inspiration with so many bush craft videos in her "earlier" days. Many years younger. She has recently had a baby so may not be going off to the bush like she used to but she did post many great out in the woods videos earlier. I have yet to find another grandmother type like me but if you find one please pass it along. I know they are out there but not making videos for the most part. @camperchristina (Canadian) does some amazing solo canoe trips. Check them out. Good luck and please give me a heads up when you find something.
@wendyoutdoors2230 thank you and I will let you know what- if I find anything :)
This video is great! Love the thought of baking things while camping! What is the size of your billy can?
Hi Tammy- it is 2 quarts and 14cm. So happy to hear you enjoyed this.
Hi Wendy! I have another question about the billy pot, I didn't realize it comes with a smaller stainless steel dish inside it. Have you used the smaller dish? Is it for frying foods?
Hi Wendy, i am from Europe. We have the "omnia" Pot. Check It Out what you can Cook and bake with that. I think It ist Something for you and your idears
thanks you very much for your suggestion- I have seen them- looks like an interesting idea.
I gotta say, hats of to ya but I'd rather pick up one from the restaurant and take it to camp instead..hot dog, burgers, sure.. reheating lasagna in that contraption doesn't seem worth it imo
It was fun to make! But I get your point! 😄
Awesome video, looking forward to the next one!
Thank you very much, I am working on a few more.
Really appreciate the insights in this video.
thank you
Fantastic video, really appreciate your effort!
thank you Marian
Loved the content, keep it coming!
