Thank you for the video! What I've noticed, many youtubers focus on tequila, some focus on triple sec and almost no one talks about lime. Seriously, I feel like all this syrup/nectar ideas come from different limes available in their region. If you have decent limes, they are naturally sweet and you don't need all this sweeteners, but sometimes they are just not fully ripe and juice tastes like pure acid. Then you definitely need some added sugar for that classy Margarita taste. So yeah, taste your juice after squeezing that lime and you will be king of margaritas in every occasion. To add complexity: different triple secs have different sugar contents which is also affecting the taste. Cheers!
Great video, I love how you give us a little history of the drink. I personally go with .75 Cointreau and .25 blue agave nectar. I lot of my friends also say they like it that way when I make it for them. You should give it a try.
The margarita is one of my favourite cocktails but I never order it at a bar. A trick I use is that I rim half the glass with salt. Then I can have a thick rim that I visually appealing but you don't get a mouth full of salt every time you take a sip.
Mt Gay Rum or Jamaican White Rum Fresh Lime Juice Myers Dark Rum Orange @ Pinapple Juice, not from concentrate Allspice Berries Grenadine Strawberry Syrup
Even though it's simple, a well-made margarita is a thing of beauty. Just like a whiskey sour. And like a whiskey sour, you already like it. It's a real easy sipper. I've been adding a teaspoon of simple syrup to even it out, but I might try going without it.
In terms of the sweetener, Jim Meehan suggests adding a 0.25 oz of agave nectar. I don't usually make it that way, but if it's too tart for your tastes, the agave nectar is a good way to go. Cheers!
+Distinguished Spirits Last night I tried it with a teaspoon of agave nectar. It was excellent! It actually makes the tequila stand out more and keeps the lime juice from overpowering everything.
Oh good. Yeah using Agave works a little better that Simple because it's more complimentary. It has that earthy, vegetal agave taste so it helps bring out some of those qualities in the tequila. Anyway, glad it turned out so well for you. Salud!
I had to watch again. Another did the Daisy and I knew you had mentioned it. That makes sense the word is used as a template because on YT you see all kinds of Daisy recipes!
Hey i like the way you made it but i like it on the rocks, and a lil squirt of agave in the shaker, quick question, what do ya think of grand marriner, is that not as quality as the cointrea? Im going to make one fron scratch this weekend and want to use the best.
I'm very late to your channel and this video but just wanted to post a huge thank you for the great content, history, and recipes. As for this margarita, we made the version you presented and my goodness, what a delicious cocktail. It's the first margarita I have made without the addition of a sweetener (agave nectar, simple syrup, etc.) and I was initially skeptical, but the recipe you present is absolutely incredible, to my tastes at least. Surprisingly complex given the drink only has three ingredients... well four if you include the salted rim of the glass. Thanks again, you have added a house favorite to our cocktail roster at home.
Great! Welcome! Glad to hear you liked this recipe as much as I did. It's strikes such a good balance, you don't need a sweetener in my opinion. Plus, the drink is kinda salty, sour, earthy and boozy. It's kind of savory. Cheers!
Love the channel. I'd like to mention a very good budget orange liqueur I recently discovered: Florida Orange Reserve. 1 part FOR Orange Liqueur, 1 part fresh lime juice, and 2 parts Camarena Silver... amazing for the price. Cheers!
If you're talking about this one, www.abcfws.com/product/Florida-Old-Reserve-Orange-Liqueur/17075.uts, I love the packaging. Thanks for the recommendation.
Yessir, that's the one. If you try it, I'd like to know what you think. It'll make a little bit sweeter drink so I'd stay away from agave syrup or other sweeteners.
Larga vida !
One was for pulp and the other was for the ice chips. I like to strain citrus juices before bottling them so that they're good to go for whatever drink I want to make, like a Tiki drink or a Buck or something like that. In this case, I also strained it again after shaking so that the surface of the drink would be clean. Cheers!
Distinguished Spirits would you ever consider freezing the lime juice on mass? I just squeezed and froze 3 litres of lime juice and I’m hoping it will be ok. Salut!
Distinquised spirits, I make my magarita with lazuna 2 oz 100% agave, 1/2 oz gran manier, 1/2 oz agave syrup, 1 oz lime. It has a distinct salty flavor that I love without a rim. Do you think it's from the blanco tequila? I can't perceive it from the individual ingredients., thanks for the channel
I'm not sure. It shouldn't be anything in that list. I haven't tried Lazuna, but it looks legit. I can't imagine it has salt built into it. Perhaps it's that you're using a Himalayan Salt Glass to serve it in? Haha.
@@DistinguishedSpirits He is referring to Lunazul, which is a nice entry-level tequila for about $20 a 750. I can't vouch for their blanco, but their reposado is nice and smooth for the price range.
It's wild, I tried a couple different Blancos recently and they had a saltiness to them. Perhaps that's why they pair so well with salt in cocktails. I'll have to read up on that phenomenon. It's not universal, but saltiness is definitely part of the flavor profile of some Blancos and it's unmistakeable when it's there.
Make it just they way it is in this recipe. I think you'll be happy with the level of sweetness. There's no agave syrup in it, so it's not too sweet. Let me know what you think. Cheers!
I see a lot of people make the tequila with agave syrup instead of cointreau. What do you think about that? Also thank you so much for all your videos, i enjoy them a lot! Edit: nevermind, I saw that you answered another comment with this, calling it the Tommy's Margarita. Again thanks for all your work. Cheers from Denmark
It's all over the place in restaurants. They may not even have bartenders who know what's in it. Just some plastic jug tequila and margarita mix, which is hard to believe, but it still happens.
Haha. You got it. Adding agave (Tommy's Margarita) to me, makes it another drink, which is why it has a slightly different name. Plus, the orange liqueur gives it a good balance of sweetness on it's own. Cheers!
The video is 4.45 minutes, he is wasting most of the time with unnecessary information, when it comes the important part, says very quickly and does not give clear details, please be more clear with your information. please think about it and don't just criticize me, just because you are the master, we are here to learn. please be more clear.
Anyone who watches a video, obviously wants to learn something, perhaps will be better spend less time on the introduction, who already everyone knows about the culture or where it comes from, and put all the ingredients that are going to use, and when you are mixing them give a bit more time so anyone can understand what you are mixing, as far as I know, usually it is tequila mixed with triple sec or Cointreau, it was not clear to me if you added a third liquor, and also you went to fast on when you mixed the lime juice with some other juice, don't you think it will be better to present all the ingredients, and mix them so people can understand better?
The ingredients for the drink are laid out at 0:17. The recipe starts at 3:11. In between is some history and background on the drink. During the recipe, it shows all of the steps. Juicing the limes. Salting the rim. Chilling the glass. Measuring the Tequila, Cointreau (Triple Sec) and Lime Juice. Shaking it and straining it into the cocktail glass. All of that is in the video. Are you saying that the ingredients at the beginning and the recipe at the end went by too fast? Is that the problem? Also, if it's helpful, the printed recipe is listed in the Description for the video. Hopefully that helps. Let me know.
Thank you for taking time to write me back. You have prepared a very nice video, but you are going to fast with the important parts of the main idea, like the lay out of the ingredients and when you are mixing them, in my opinion it should go slower those parts, the percentage of that part is too little comparing of the video. Again with all my respect of your knowledge, if you ever do another video, it would be more pleasurable to watch when you give more time the important parts, it is annoying to keep going back and repeat to see what you are doing.
I love the part when you talk about a history of a drink. It is amazing to pass it to costumers they love it.
Great to hear that it didn't put you to sleep. Haha. Thanks for the love. Cheers!
Thank you for the video!

This seems to be the most finicky cocktail ever. Change an ingredient by a few milliliters, and the whole taste is different.

Can I use Jose Cuervo gold?
Sure. If that's what you've got. If you haven't bought a bottle yet, I'd suggest something that's 100% Blue Agave.
why did you strain lime juice if you are using double strain after shaking the whole thing anyway?
One was for pulp and the other was for the ice chips. I like to strain citrus juices before bottling them so that they're good to go for whatever drink I want to make, like a Tiki drink or a Buck or something like that. would you consider it too bastardized to add a t spn-tbl spn(depending on tastes) of agave nectar to the drink?
No. By all means. Jim Meehan from the renowned PDT bar in NYC adds agave to his, so you'd be in good company. Cheers!

I usually make it with a pinch of salt in the shaker and no salt rim. Both ways are good though.

Cheers! Yeah, the Tommy's Margarita became a really popular variation back in the 90's.
Okay, been watching different episodes again. Most bartenders do not add simple syrup but do you find in restaurants they do add simple syrup?
It's all over the place in restaurants. They may not even have bartenders who know what's in it. Just some plastic jug tequila and margarita mix, which is hard to believe, but it still happens.
Thank you for not blending this or adding agave nectar.

Totally. My pleasure.

I need to get back to Texas.
On my way to New Orleans a couple years ago, I stopped in San Antonio for Cinco de Mayo. That town made some mean margaritas.
You ain't lying.
I'd recommend stopping by Bar 1919 if you're ever back to San Antonio. I have a good feeling you'd like that place.
Nice. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to bookmark it on Yelp or something. Cheers!

Isn't that a little too much salt?
Haha. Of course. I went overboard so it would show up better on camera (which I say in the video). You don’t need to use that much.
