  • Today on HamRadioComms I recorded multiple conversations on the FT5DR and the ICOM IC-52A. I also show my JumboSpot for D-STAR access and the FTM-100D in access mode for Wires-X.

I like C4FM more than D-Star. C4FM has more clear voice for understanding and D-Start has more of robotic sounds. I don't like DMR sound at all. That is why I chose C4FM as a digital mode for the voice communication.

It seems to me that c4fm and d-star has nothing to do with it. It's just that icom has such a timbre of an amplifier.

Pretty cool Ed! I'd like to talk to you on the phone or on Zoom sometime to learn more about your setup. My email address is good on QRZ. Drop me a line when you can. Do you still have your IC-703+? I need to blow the dust off of mine and get it out in the field this summer. Stay well and 73 my friend!

HI Gary, how's it going? Yes, no problem I can email you. Yes, I still have my IC-703, I haven't gotten on it much because I only have one HF antenna right now, an end fed with 9:1 balun, works great on my 7100 & 7200 with outboard tuners, but the 3:1 internal tuner of the 703 is no match for the outboard LDG tuners' 10:1 capabilities.
The tree I had my dipole in is cut down, so I'm going to find some other way to get another HF antenna up that is more resonant at 20 or 40m.
10m is hopping some mornings, maybe I can get a vertical 10m antenna for the 703.
