Exactly. "The philosophers stone", "The prisoner of Azkaban", "The goblet of fire", "The half blood prince" and the last two parts of "The deathly Hallows" are the only movies of the franchise of "Harry Potter" who received a recognition of the Oscar, but never won.
I still think that Fantastic Beasts should have also won the oscar for the production design instead of La La Land. I mean 1920s New York, the MACUSA, the Blind Pig and all the stuff was really mind-blowing!
Jay Debbarma I know but many places were actually made for real! you need to watch the videos of making of the world of Fantastic Beasts, La La Land is seriously nothing compared to this
I always knew that sooner or later Colleen Atwood was going to win her 4th Oscar, after been nominated previously in 11 projects. Someone told me that the costumes that she creates in every film, manages to give a character an eccentric elegance full of charisma and creativity. Even that she is known for collaborating with director Tim Burton, having the chance of been involved in a film that has connection with the franchise of Harry Potter, was something where she had the chance to feel part of the magical world created by author JK Rowling. A truly deserving award. Also if someone is interested to know her work, here is a list all her projects that were nominated by the Oscars that includes the year of the ceremony and the name of the film who defeated in the category for best costume design, including the ones that won the recipient. ° Little Women (1995) (Defeated by “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”) ° Beloved (1999) (Defeated by “Shakespeare in Love”) ° Sleepy Hollow (2000) (Defeated by “Topsy Turvy”) ° Chicago (2003) (Won the Oscar) ° Lemony Snicket and a Series of Unfortunate Events (2005) (Defeated by “The aviator”) ° Memoirs of a Geisha (2006) (Won the Oscar) ° Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2008) (Defeated by Elizabeth: The Golden Age) ° Nine (2010) (Defeated by “The Young Victoria”) ° Alice in Wonderland (2011) (Won the Oscar) ° Snow White and the Huntsman (2013) (Defeated by “Anna Karenina”) ° Into the Woods (2015) (Defeated by “The Grand Budapest Hotel")
You can tell Collen Atwood seemed completely shocked to win I don't think she thought she had a chance to win because, I heard the odds we're either Jackie or La La Land plus Atwood already had won 3 previous time for Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha and Alice in Wonderland
Richard Cleveland the Oscar should've gone to Jackie or La La Land. Don't know why it went to her. Jackie went all the other awards for costume designs leading up to this, so I don't know why it didn't.

They're just pointing out how a spinoff has won more Oscars than the franchise that started it. Harry Potter has been nominated for multiple Oscars, but has always failed to win. Fantastic Beasts was the first win for the franchise, but not the for the first 8 movies, but for its own set of films.

As good as his score for that movie is, The Fellowship of the Ring is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. Just listen to The Bridge of Kahzad Dum, A Knife in the Dark or Concerning Hobbits to see. I do think that The Prisoner of Azkaban should have won for score though.
After all these years of HP films themselves getting nominated for visual effects and original score and no wins but finally the fantastic beasts franchise start on the right foot with a Oscar win on the first instalment
Lily Bettinelli La La Land should've won this award (or Jackie) it's not about the actual costumes, but how well they go with the movie and represent it's themes. La La Land costumes matches the theme throughout the movie so well, it stars of with bold and neon colors and then turns to pastel tones when the mood of the film is changing. Plus, the clothing they wear in La La Land is actually memorable. The yellow dress, the blue dress, the retro look of Ryan Gosling with his button shirt, etc. The fantastic beast costume designs look generic and mediocre at best. If not La La Land, it should've at least gone to Jackie, that had some memorable and fantastic costumes.
What? You claim that the award is for how well the costumes represent the movies themes (which is not the case), and then baselessly dismiss the Fantastic Beasts costumes as “generic and mediocre”, when they’re a magic twist on 1920s fashion and have specific ethnic and cultural features on top of that - she dressed thousands of people like this. How is that generic and mediocre?
This is Colleen Atwood's fourth Oscar, but instead of being nominated for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, she should have been nominated for Alice Through the Looking Glass! Come on, the costumes in the 'badly-reviewed' Disney's Alice in Wonderland sequel were wonderful, colorful, and well-detailed! The costumes in Fantastic Beasts were too derivative!

Fun Fact: This is the first Harry Potter movie to win an Oscar, though the series had been nominated several times before
