I remember Jezzball. My co-worker and I used to play that on our computers at work until the boss saw what was going on and uninstalled all the games on all the computers. We never liked him even before that incident.
When I was in 5th grade, my teacher had a copy of BOWEP on a floppy disk and let us take it home so we could play chips challenge. By the time it got to me, it had a virus on it.
In Rodent's Revenge, I always saw it as the mouse condensing the yellow cat into yellow paste and just slurping up its liquefied corpse. I was a disturbed child, blame Wolfenstein 3D for having the blood drinking mechanic.
Thank you for this! Been watching your stuff for several days now and completely forgot about Chip's Challenge. I am off to play this gem now. I haven't played it since I was 4 or 5.
Clint, thank you. I was thinking of Chip's Challenge earlier, but could never remember the name of it! I'm glad I ran across this video, it brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. You, sir, are awesome!
I loved the Windows Entertainment Pack. Someone at my votech school brought in a floppy with the games on it and we all passed it around and installed them on our PCs. After I had a laptop, I copied them onto it and spent hours playing Taipei, JezzBall, Cruel Solitaire, SkiFree. Great memories. I wish MS still made these.
I had the best of pack on my Packard bell computer from back in the day. I do have all the packs and make it run via dosbox. I made a package that is ready to go with all the entertainment packs. If you want it shoot me a message.
I always enjoyed seeing just how long I could outrun that snow monster in SkiFree using the jumps. :) Thanks for taking me back to my early teens again dude! These and Microsoft Arcade were the first games I ever played on a Windows PC!
it was my family's ambition to try and finish chips challenge. also, does anyone else associate a particular smell with old experiences, like when I saw him playing the cat and mouse game, I could actually smell something, which really brought back the memory
This is easily one of my favourite channels on UA-cam; You never fail to entertain. I didn't own this pack of games, so I haven't got the nostalgic angle of these titles that most would have, but man do I want to play that SkiFree game... :D
I love it because instead of reviewing and only telling you the pros and cons he actually adds lively humor and dosent give that Robotic commentator feel.
Geez Clint really a way to make me really nostalgia-gasm, not only with BoWEP but with the Packard Bell you showed. I owned that and was my first Windows 95 machine. Thanks!
You jogged my memory of Jezzball! I played a number of these games when I was a teenager alongside listening to whatever the 90s precursor to emo music was and alternated with Sim City 2000 and as soon as I saw the game the suppressed memories came flooding back. At some point then I discovered much better music than my dirges of doom and ditched the over-reliance on computer patience but it's nice to have a reminder about my emo phase every once in a while.
Yes! My mom had a Gateway 2000 when I was 3 or 4, I had the best time playing SkiFree and Chips Challenge on it. And I was obsessed with Paint. We still have my mom’s old Gateway, so maybe I’ll have to boot it up and see what’s on it from my childhood.
KID PIX, KID PIX! COME ON AND PLAY WITH KID PIX!!!!!!! Sorry... It's ingrained into the deepest parts of my brain at this point. (It's the theme from deluxe 3 and 4.)
You really have a knack for making these videos man. Great job. Entertaining, informative, and nostalgic. Reminds just how great G4TV used to be. :'( Anyway keep up the great content. Cheers!
I played Ski Free more than any other snow based game. The slalom I used to constantly try to beat my personal best time. I played it more than even 1080 on the N64. What a classic!
Yep, some of these games were the best part of my day when I got to play them as a kid. Jezzball was my favourite, but Jezzball and Chip's Challenge were also up there. Ski Free was good too.
I had forgotten these games existed. I played it on my cousins computer when i was like 5 and had no idea what they were from. Now 15 years later the mystery is solved.
My old Gateway Windows 98 came with a set of game discs. Included were; The Neverhood, Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far, either Flight Simulator '95 or '98, and (I believe) Age of Empires along with others' I can't remember (this was almost 20 years ago for me). Those games that the Gateway Windows 98 came with at that time practically made up my PC Gaming childhood starting from when I was like 4-5 years old. All the titles I didn't forget were made by Microsoft Studio and came packed with the Gateway Windows 98. I don't know why, but I guess "Microsoft Entertainment Pack" reminded me of the set of games/discs that came with the first Windows PC I really got to use. Could you possibly do a video if you ever come across any of these OEM PC software/game disc sets, or just any of the games/series' I mentioned above?
For some reason your voice here, especially during the Pyramid game, reminds me of the announcer on game shows who reads off why the prize they're showing you on-stage and on-screen is amazing. Not a bad thing!
Fun fact about Freecell, it was also bundled with Win32s for Windows 3.1 which I imagine came with a few programs here and there. Westwood's Monopoly comes with the WinG API and the Win32s runtime, both of which you could install after installing the game. And the Win32s came with Freecell.
I remember always playing Herman and the Falling Rocks. The death music and his disturbing clown face (and the bloody cracked open skull when you lost) gave me nightmares. EDIT: Googled to find out you actually reviewed FROCKS.EXE. omfg.
Rodent's revenge! I had completely forgotten about that game! I used to play that all the time when I was a kid! I also remember my mom being obsessed with Chips Challenge, she even had a notebook with guides on how to beat every puzzle.
I played these games at school in the early 90s. Or to be more accurate, I pretty much only played SkiFree. Thanks for making all these reviews of old (and new) PC games and for the home computer reviews.
The funny thing about Microsoft Tetris is that it's manual actually recommended *against* getting Tetrises. I guess it was made before that became the meta.
looking at this reminds me of the other pack we had on our old computer. aside from BOWEP, we got a Bicycle card game pack. initially, it has just poker, solitaire, cribbage, and i think blackjack. but when you open solitaire, it has a game mode menu where you can pick from around 40 different single player card games, ranging from standard klondike to 40 thieves, spider, and so forth. back when my mom was around, i remember searching all over the internet for a modern take on that concept for having a 40-in-1 solitaire program, but those were rare at the time
MasterZebulin - I'd try VirtualBox personally. It can use virtual harddisks and everything else. Your best bet is "installing" Windows 98 SE on the fake PC; this version of Windows doesn't have the infamous WGA feature, so all you need is the Windows CD and the proper product ID code (It doesn't check online for other registered copies).
MasterZebulin Not the end of the world. Perhaps there's someone you know who can install the emulator for you. And unless you're going back to Windows ME, MS Bob, or MS-DOS, you could find the journey into older OSs to be an intriguing one. :-)

I completely forgot about this crap. Mostly I remember it as something that brought my friend to tears when his dad installed Windows on the family PC and made it auto-load so my friend thought DOS is gone for good, together with all the wonderful games, and all he got left was this Windows "Entertainment" crap. The day we figured out how to get back to DOS (no Google to ask then, boys and girls) was I think one of the best days in his life.
A small did you know: It is possible to get multiple snow monsters on screen at once. One spawns if you travel ~150m upwards (I think), and one if you travel far enough to any side. Now if you can survive long enough with multiple snow monsters chasing you, you can get the one near the 2000m mark downwards as well, and have a monster party.
This brings back a lot of memories of the 90s for me Also, if TetraVex was part of the BEST of the Windows Entertainment Pack, then I dread to think what the games which didn't make it are like
i remembered playing Jezzball when i was really really young. boy, watching it again in this video gives me incredible nostalgia-gasm.... or whatever you call it.
Oh, yes, Taipei, Tetravex, Pipedream and most importantly JezzBall bring back good memories! We didn't have them at home, but I came across them on a computer on a sort-of summer camp. Didn't know they were from the Windows Entertainment Pack. We did have 'The puzzle collection' though, which was also from Microsoft.
I still have a copy. It runs fine on my Windows XP VM. Our first copy was Entertainment Pack 4 which came with our Packard Bell back in 93. Then the computer died and the floppies went bad, and later Mom got me a copy of Best of Entertainment for my 15th birthday, and happy was I. :)
I'm so glad I found your channel!
Yay, I'm glad too!

the nostalgia-gasm hitting the nail on the head. 1995. Packard bell. entertainment packs. shareware. skifree. this is my favorite LGR video.
Uhm, I know it's kinda late, but I think you messed up

CDs with a weird collection of free- and shareware - hours of fun just discovering what is on there.

Dude you're not the only one who had a packerbell remember that simple kid interface lol.
What was it called was a virtual home
I remember Jezzball. My co-worker and I used to play that on our computers at work until the boss saw what was going on and uninstalled all the games on all the computers.
We never liked him even before that incident.
"Why were you watching someone on the toilet"
I have a better question. Why is someone using a computer on the toilet
Smart phones. I imagine some people bring their phone and earphones into the toilet
taking your laptop to the bathroom when you're having to take a big big shit is not that bad.
Maybe someone converted a toilet into an office chair I mean I did that once and gave it to my cousin as a gag gift
***** A windows 98 smartphone?
Emulate 98 on a modern phone it would probably be fun.
When I was in 5th grade, my teacher had a copy of BOWEP on a floppy disk and let us take it home so we could play chips challenge. By the time it got to me, it had a virus on it.
bukanbangkit no one could have said it any better...
J Allen FeelsBadMan
Bummer.
So it got shared around the school, and had a virus when it was your turn with it? So, that floppy was basically the class slut, then?
@@CyberLink70 Wrong. Kids and virii go together.
i love that due to removed accounts - it looks like someone is talking to himself.
love the channel btw and rewatch stuff all the time
I promise that I did not nostalgiagasm all over myself.
The screen, however...

If your health is low enough.
I remember watching stevethemeave45's video of these games being played on Windows XP back in 2010. They are really cool! Nice job!
This. I grew up with this! Those are amongst my first memorys. When my dad let me sit on his lap and showed me this magical thing called "Computer"
I GOT THE UNSOLVABLE FREECELL GAME ONCE. I HAVE SURVIVED.
I ALSO GOT IT BUT I DID NOT SURVIVE.
Thank you for this! Been watching your stuff for several days now and completely forgot about Chip's Challenge. I am off to play this gem now. I haven't played it since I was 4 or 5.

Can you by chance remember the name of another game in the pack? You had to navigate with a green tennis ball
I always enjoyed seeing just how long I could outrun that snow monster in SkiFree using the jumps. :) Thanks for taking me back to my early teens again dude! These and Microsoft Arcade were the first games I ever played on a Windows PC!
This episode of LGR really tickles my fancy. Do more on games around that same era and I'll die happy.
it was my family's ambition to try and finish chips challenge. also, does anyone else associate a particular smell with old experiences, like when I saw him playing the cat and mouse game, I could actually smell something, which really brought back the memory

I refer to Tripeaks as Triple Panty Action, but to each their own.
I remember visiting my grandparents as a child and playing these games. Thanks for the nostalgia!
149 levels in Chip’s challenge?? That’s incredible. Remember I played no more than 20 then got stuck when I was 7. Great video!

I just had minesweeper. Also, no PCs in the bathroom.
I always loved watching the card come up out of the sleeve on golf when I was like 10
You should review Microsoft 3D Movie Maker!
Chips challenge is pure childhood!
144 levels + 5 bonus ones.

Protip: press F to outrun the yeti in SkiFree. (Really. There's a second yeti that you can't outrun though.)

You can emulate the whole Windows 3.11 in special DosBox bundle together with MEP1-4 installed on it. Voila!
I believe you can launch it:
1) via VM emulation, like VirtualBox, of a Windows 95 machine.
2) on a 32-bit Windows XP machine.
A Better Eay To Do It Is to Use OTVDM Which Can Emulate 16-Bit Games From Windows 3.1 Which Chips Adventure Was Made For
omg, i loved chips challenge!! especially when you pushed chipped against the wall he couldn't go the sound effects "usgh usgh" hahah

2002 baby. But I have older siblings and cousins who would always be playing this on my grandmother's Windows 95 during our annual family reunions.

Is there ANY way to get these to work on Windows 7 that DOESN'T involve DOSBox?
Yes. Other emulators and virtual machines. VMWare Player is a good free one.
Will it allow you to use your save files from your computer?
MasterZebulin - I'd try VirtualBox personally. It can use virtual harddisks and everything else. Your best bet is "installing" Windows 98 SE on the fake PC; this version of Windows doesn't have the infamous WGA feature, so all you need is the Windows CD and the proper product ID code (It doesn't check online for other registered copies).

Well, shit.

Oh dear "Chip's Challenge'. Played it at work, just - had- to - get - to -the END!

I thought of it too. I haven't seen much of the anime, and I haven't read the manga, but I do know of the character.
