Nicole and I are big gamers, be they video, dice, cards or classic board games. So when I was tasked with building a new dining table I knew I wanted it to be multi-purpose, serving our needs for meals as well as gaming. And so was born the Gaming Dining Table. Beautiful. I love how your change in careers has made you happy and benefits so many other people as well. That's the sweet spot everyone wants to find in life
THAT ACCESSORY BAR DOH!!! what a fantastic idea, perfect for D&D, can prop up you DMG and you could leave it all under there to come back to exactly where you left off and no one would be none the wiser!!!!
dude i love this!!
That's a pretty impressive table - you can see the precision when you're putting the three sections in at about 5:18 and the air pressure from the last one lifts the other two.
+Paul Smyers Yeah, I was just about to say that until I saw your comment. Tight work, huh?
@@Rouverius, The table, or the child?
This is a beautiful table with so much to offer in it's design - I completely love the joinery of this piece.
+The ShavingWood Workshop thanks dude!
Your welcome :-)
Absolutely stunned. Even though you were moving at chipmunk speed. The build look great!! Great work Mark!! I love the idea of the inserts for an iPad, cup, and book holder. The possibilities are endless with that setup!! Well done!
Hahaha, thought it was a DIY and was thinking "yeah, sure I got those tools at home!" ... Looks like an awesome table! :)
Well, I DID build it myself! :)
same here then boom all kinds of special tools XD
I mean, you could pull this off without the planer and a lot of the special tools. The only things that a normal joe might not have are the table saw, planar and the router. Of course you can simplify the design, take out the fun connections and just drill and dowel the ends of things. The router would only really be required if you want the outside rail. Projects like these are as hard or easy as you make them.
Dude made his own veneer!!! Wtf!!!!???
My thoughts exactly. I've done 2 game tables and I've been using mdf with veneer. It's pricy but stays straight and looks great.
In my opinion, the best woodworker in youtube. Great design.Greetings from México!
+Eduardo Mendoza Wow, thanks Eduardo!
dude.. you put so much detail into it. I wish I had a fully stocked workshop to do this too.. haha
the neat thing is if youre playing a card game and its time for dinner, you can leave the cards there, put the boards over it and eat
Garth Palmer Yeah. No need to move the game and try to remember where it all went.
Until you spill your glass of soda while your oop game is set up underneath
Wow.... This is what true master craftsmanship looks like. Perhaps something to aspire to one day, but far beyond my current "DIY" skills, haha. Gorgeous work!!
Can't believe this was 8 years ago! I've got to get around to making the coffee table version of this. It's so pretty!
Definitely not amateur hour for this game table.
I mean I kind of feel like it is. It is a great table do not get me wrong... but With all of the stuff he has there should much more creativity to it though.
This is my first guild purchase! I was worried when I heard that it was coming to the free site, but the amount of information I've gotten from the guild videos is well worth money! I'm looking forward to the next two projects I purchased as well. Loved the style of this video!
Once I saw all the specialty pro tools being used, I knew this video wasn't for me, but I was so mesmerized with the work that I watched the whole thing anyway. Great job.
Awesome summary vid! Thanks for taking the time to do the quick edit! This still had way more in it than I thought it would and was a great overview!
And that table is ROCKIN!
Amazing to see this much craftmanship in just 5 minutes!
I love the Idea of the accessories side track! really clever...
Wow! You built that table in under 5 minutes! Norm would have taken at least half an hour. HaHa.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one thinking of The New Yankee Workshop while watching =)
babyjenks1784 lspehtgtg
Absolutely beautiful. Loved the ingenuity of the design and assembly skills.
Another beautiful piece! Awesome design! I really like it's finish!
Very beautifull and classy ! The idea for the accessories rail is brilliant.
Absolutely beautiful project Mark! I'm amazed at how far your craftsmanship has progressed. Great work and very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
GREAT project/video Marc, I believe it's one of your best. Beautiful design and I especially like the "proud" detailing on the corners.
A very detailed project condensed into a 5:35 video. Outstanding job. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Holiday Season!!
Amazing work. I'm no woodcrafter myself but my dad builds both furniture and instruments so I know good craftsmanship when I see it.
Absolutely incredible workmanship. Beautiful table.
That is a beautifully made table, with loads of great ideas incorporated. Thanks for sharing.
Nice job on the planning and construction of the table, as well as on the video production. Everything looked very professional and it was fun to see it all come together.
That reveal on the mortise though...daymn!
Lovely craftsmanship. A delight to watch.
That's an impressive set of tools you got there! Way Beyond my price range! I guess I'll have to look for something simpler. Nice table
My thoughts exactly, I've decided to go with an adjustable height table buying the base from amazon, so at least that's one part that shouldn't go wrong while I stumble my way through this. Lol
Great function design and great aesthetic design. Love it!
+Make Something Thanks David!
+panhead1219 lol yeah well if you have a safe/smart way to get power to a table on a tile floor, I'm all ears. :)
Wow, what a video! What workmanship! What a table! This deserves way more views.
Looks fantastic! Great work and a killer design.
Awesome build. Glad to see you're feeling better.
Well, so much for building this one with the three or four tools I have. Lol. Beautiful table. Bravo. And Congrats on the new arrival to the family!
The little girl at the end was adorable ^_^
+milo thanks!
she said we must join. and she will get a one zip XD we will join
My brain is melting. I want to do that but also had some simple upgrades in thought. You got great stuff! Now to go myself some power tools.. and a garage.
That was a great video! You highlighted most of your techniques well for a project that big in under 6 minutes.
Wish I had a shop that nice to work with. Awesome build
Make it 3 layers. Wood top/gaming top/tv bottom for dnd maps. I say you've got mad wood working skills and tools.
Great multifunctional table. Also... using the iPad as a straight-edge... Love it!
wow.. this is some truly amazing craftsmanship. I got confused when the lathe came out, but then I was like "dowel pins? he's making his own dowel pins??" Awesome work.
Wow, watching this is super satisfactory! I could have hundreds of videos like this on a playlist in the background, while doing work or whatever, and feel great because of it! I Love it!
Beautiful Table! You knocked this one out of the park!
Another great idea. You could also use this as a puzzle table and leave the puzzle spread out and just put the finished top back on. Great job.
awesome turned out great, and we got to see you use the lathe even if it was only for something small.
You've got some skills! :) Awesome table that serves every need, whether you want to play table top games with your family, poker with your best pals, or some wine and dine with your loved one.
Awesome design. Love the speed rail idea!
What kind of screws are those?
Wow what an amazing build. Your work is outstanding. Gobsmacked!!!
I find it really satisfying to see that wooden spindle bit go through that hole so flush.
Very impressive! Looks fantastic and the process is interesting and fun to watch.
This design gives me an idea for removable padded rails for when the table is configured in gaming mode. Padded rails really make a "game pit" style table a more comfortable experience. Thanks for the video.
As always, another beautiful build.
Such a precise fit, you can see the air pressure push a panel up at about 5:15 when you're putting the top on. Your projects always satisfy my OCD tendencies.
+Peter Gillock I had to scroll down to see if anyone else commented on this. I guess it's a sign of precision craftsmanship!
+Joe Brewer Haha, I did the same thing.
Amazing table and craftsmanship, I was thinking of using it as a dinning table and using the space as storage for place mats, best cutlery, best set of china etc...
That talking baby part at the end of the episode was great. Take Care Marc.
Like the video as always , one thing I really like about the table is that you could put the top back on and leave the game set up under it without having to remove the game in progress and come back later or after dinner and take up were you left off .
Amazing Mark! As always, you make it look so easy.
Please, never remove this video from UA-cam. This is just too awesome.
Heard your voice for years and now was finally able to put a face to it. Great video and keep up the good work.
Absolutely stunning. I really want to build a table like this one day.
Marc, I don't know why you don't mass produce these? It looks like it only takes you about 5 minutes to build one! That is such a nice table and turned out great! Really enjoyed the video too.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Concise, interesting, and impressive. Well done! Shared with my friends.
Goodness that end was funny. Hope she grows to enjoy and appreciate the table too sir.
very cool table Marc fantastic idea for christmas gatherings play games with the fam nice one
Looks killer Marc! Nice job!
Love a project that justifies purchasing all the tools needed to build it, particularly those that come in grey boxes with green latches!
Beautiful work. I hope I have the skill to build such a nice piece of furniture like that some day.
Marc, your work is amazing! I love the design and the table came out beautiful!
+BookofIsaiah (Matt B) Thanks Matt!
That is incredible, and some awesome tools to boot!
what an amazing build - I can only wish i had the tools and skill that you have - great job
Beautiful table, Marc! Pretty brutal marketing tactic at the end though. Nobody on earth could resist that!
+Braxton Wirthlin using her powers for evil already! ;)
Great video on the construction and the table is beautiful.
Your videos are an inspiration to many...
Dude, this is a super compact and super rich video. Badass !
I'm thinking of joining the guild, but I gotta watch all the freebies first...
Thanks anyway, especially for the inspiration. Keep on trucking ! (From France)
Beautiful table, and it looks like an epic amount of work (with several tools that I don't own). I can kinda see why companies like GeekChic charge so much for these now.
That little plunger to lift up the wooden table surface was really slick.
Amazing work my friend... congrats on your new arrival!
This is amazing. The only complaint I ever have about these types of build guides is true for nearly every one of them. Over 95% of the people who would watch this, if not a higher percentage, have zero access to the tens of thousands of dollars of shop equipment that is needed to make something like this. Seriously. Once again, this table is amazing, but almost no one is going to have access to build something like this.
check your city for a maker space... they are popping up in quite a few places. renting time in a makerspace woodshop might be waaaay more affordable that you might think. especially if you enjoy woodcraft.
Aside from renting like Kirk mentions, you don't actually need the setup of a shop like this. He's just showing you how he does it in his professional shop. There are lots of people on UA-cam that show you how to set up a woodworking shop for under $1000. Steve Ramsey is continuously updating his list for this. You absolutely can do it with this cheaper setup, but it requires more use of hand tools vs. power, more time with setups, and will involve more time on finishing work/sanding because those tools aren't going to be as clean with your lines as the professional grade power tools. Either way there's hours of sanding, but more so when using consumer grade tools.
Other than say, a domino, these tools don't do anything the cheaper tools can't. They do it faster, more precisely, in a more easily repeatable fashion. Even a domino can be functionally replicated
An excellent build. You are a craftsman for sure and have a great workshop 👍😎🇦🇺
Holy hell, I am working on a table of my own and this just crapped all over it. I didnt even know some of those tools existed. I really wish I had that workshop going. Life goals!
Great video! My wife noticed the hospital bracelet in a few parts of the build footage, and she said " I bet you he just had a baby!" Women notice everything.
Congratulations, and have a merry Christmas!
+Vincent Sauvé Yes indeed! Several weeks in the NICU too so the bracelet wasn't just a nice decoration. :) But yeah, they do notice the subtle things. :)
+Vincent Sauvé any man seeing that would go: uh, fukker cut himself huh?!
+Vincent Sauvé The custom mug with the baby pictures was a good hint too.
+BC WoodCrafts at least laugh at the joke... then tell me I'm being a Dick...
+The Wood Whisperer Congratulations!
That is some beautiful craftsmanship.
Great overview video, Marc! Glad to see Eva was able to make an appearance!
That was amazing your shop is so clean
that's an amazing build and great idea. congrats on the little one
This is absolutely insane! Amazing skills
What beautiful work on this. Many thumbs up
this is really awesome. and i appreciate you sharing the "Plans".. i was just transfered from a DIY videogame thing, so when i read gaming dining table i thought, "wtf does this have to do with gaming"
then went. "... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh" i think id build one a bit wider just for dnd. its nice because you woudnt have to change your mat when youre done, just put the cover back on.
really great work. work like that just inspires me more to follow my passion
very cool Marc - uber versatile
+Nick Ferry Thanks Nick!
Wow brother, amazing work! Table looks beautiful.
Another beautiful project, Marc!
Simply beautiful! Would you mind sharing the cost for the wood and supplies?
Wow!!!!!!!! That was awesome! Congrats for your skills, bro!
I've never even thought about proud finger joints, but you made them look really nice!
Perfect design and perfect performance!
Greetings from Bulgaria
I watch a lot of carpenters on UA-cam, and the level of craftsmanship you have is amazing. Great job, I'd like to apprentice someone like you someday. God Bless you and your family!
just got the plans for this. looking forward to beginning the project. I have a newborn, so gonna have to be patient!
Love the table! I see many family fun nights in your future.
The table was great, but I love your shop. I would kill to have a shop outfitted like yours. Wow.
