My husband is an antique collector, and I'm very glad he doesn't understand a word of English, or hearing "I transformed my grandmother's table into..." would probably send him to the hospital.
I, on the other hand, love it. ❤

Actually, you greatly inspired me. I inherited my grandmother's table that some idiot roommate of my father's destroyed top of by gluing down a plastic tablecloth to it. It has been a source of great heartache for me. The idea of giving it new life as a gaming table really excites me. Thank you

I love the round table - looks like a round table and will be enough space for most board games.
It looks so cozy - and even the Viking chairs match.
Of course a round table will be much more work, but I think it was worth it.

Love how actually super practical and easily accessible this is. About 90+% other builds require a ridiculous amount of more woodworking investment. The fact the jigsaw was your biggest issue makes this so low barrier to entry.

Love the practicality of the build. I like the second table since it allows for more people and you avoid all the circular complexity. A suggestion for your round topper to get it to line up. Put stopper blocks on the underside of the leaf with the center bar and use that to set it against it's side of the table, then put the magnets between the table leaves, Tha way when you put the second one in place it will lock onto the first one and the magnets can be full face to face, making them really strong. Great build!

Last week, trying to read cards on the table, I had this idea of using a round table, but with a glass top for your own part of the game and turnable part for the common part so you can easily read everything. No idea how to do it and haven't done a lot of research for it either, but seeing a round instead of rectangular table is a good first step for me 🙂

That's a really good idea! I would love to make that in the future. Think it's called a lazy susan if I understand correctly. Perfect for games like Dominion or other games where you have a "market" and want a nice way to display all the cards for everyone.

I really dug the 2nd table, mostly for the rail system. And I'm glad you addresses the cup-holders-in-armrest problem before I made that mistake.
My only question is, what do you usually do with the tops of your tables when you're using the gaming function? I saw them against the eall for the 3rd one, but does that work with the larger ones?

    • @WorldOfBoardCraft
      @WorldOfBoardCraft  2 місяці тому +1

Thanks for your comment! Sorry for the late reply. For our large 6 seater table, it's easiest if two people remove that together, and then we usually lean it against the wall on the carpet.

My wife just shared this video with me as we are in a similar situation. We have a dining table, that honestly doesn't get much use, but is great for board games, which we also don't get to play very often. Over the last year though we have talked about purchasing an attachable "tabletop" for games, but they always looked cheap and are still expensive.
Our table is very similar to your 2nd build and I know many have asked for details on that. However If you were to make another video talking about your process, I would love to have you discuss the rail system you have in place and how you went about it. :)
Any way, loved the video, and it's awesome to see that you are partner are so passionate about board games. Splendor is also one of our favorite games. :D

Like a lot of comments, I also like table 2 the most, but I see that you only play small card rather than board games. I need a table for four players that can accommodate Rising Sun, Blood Rage, Brass, Ticket to Ride, Earth, Foundations of Rome, Terraforming Mars…. None of which will fit comfortably on your size table. It’s not a criticism of the build which is great and can be upscaled to fit, just perhaps a comment about the breadth of games you indulge in. Thanks for the build hints and tips.

    • @WorldOfBoardCraft

You're right, most dining tables are narrow and wouldn't fit some of the heavier games. That's one of the downsides with doing this kind of build, if you need that extra width.

Actually I sometimes do riffle shuffle but it does depend on the game. We play once a week with a large choice of games so that occasional shuffle doesn’t hurt, it’s not as if we play poker or bridge a few nights a week with the same cards. And anyway, poker or regular cards are cheap to replace whereas it’s difficult to find a cost effective replacement solution to say … Terraforming Mars, although I did buy a second hand copy of Ticket to Ride because our board split and the cards did get ‘feathered’ from the amount of play, but it also means I have spare trains in case I loose any.
