@@ReefDork By the way, what’s your go-to light fixture? And what lights do you have running on the big peninsula tank with the wallpaper on the other side?
@TheWhyofFly kessil with ai blade grows either side is my top choice - it's what I have on the Cade tank behind me. I had various different lights on the Peninsula - Reef Factory Reef Flare Blue was the last one...
Appreciate the honesty with the paid review. Nothing wrong with earning a bit of frag money. My actual view is it’s probs a good light but if you put on your main tank for longer than 6 months then it’s a winner. I would say a year but this is Reef Dork and you casually change your lights when the wind blows 😂😂
I think Alex said he changes his lights as much as his underpants 😅 looks like he got it right though with his new set up . Time will tell . I really enjoyed his lighting journey . Allthough , I would like to see him try the 250 watt Radian mh 😊
Seldom to never comment but have to say, respect the honesty very much and have enjoyed your channel for a long time now. Thank you for the quality content.
I had the gen 1 for a while - in fact it's still living in my large 'replaced equipment' cupboard in case I need it for something. I just used the buttons on top of the light to change between settings. The worst thing about it was the saggy mounting bracket but for the money it was very good. Looks like the Gen 2 is a significant improvement so has to be a very good option for those not wanting to fork out for the top brands
Thanks for doing this review - I actually went out and bought one, in no small part based on your assessment. I do have some concern about the metal mounting bracket, which does contact the water. I can't find exactly what the bracket is made of mentioned anywhere. I'm guessing they must have made it of a material that is safe, but I'm nervous about any form of metal touching my water...
@ReefDork Consider a review of the MaxSpect Ethereal Infinite E8-230 LED light fixture - I’m considering this one for my IM 40 Long build. Looks like it has 8 controllable channels, including 4 blue ones.
A8se is now better priced to the nicrew. Nicrew is getting up there in pricing. Also, Nicrew knew what they were doing making the 150w a 2 puck design. If they were able to make it a 3 puck for more spread with the first gen, and the second gen is just updated with smaller and better parts, and reprogramming (if that) they really didn't need to redesign the 150 a smaller 2 puck
Thanks for doing this, looks like an all around solid product for the budget conscious! Also.... 6:50 and 7:59 - gorgeous corals, can you share the names so I can search for similar? Cheers!
Great video and very cool led fixture. Ive got one question... If youre not going to keep it... can I please have it? 😅 my aquamedic cube is broke. Thank you.
I have three of the 150W gen 1's on my 190 gallon. The price point these lights and the multiple reviews out there showing they grow coral just as well as the competitors makes it hard for me to want to open my wallet and spend double if not triple for the other brands.
I own both the Nicrew Gen 1 and a 20 gallon long. I use an AI blade 30" for that tank, the Nicrew would be overkill! Even the AI blade 30" (which is 60w) I never set to more than half power.
looks like a good competitor for Radeon, but i think more shimmer would look much nicer and more natural for the type of tank they're for. That GSP is going crazy though, frags going?😂
@ for a moment, in my head, all was well in the world of reef dork!😂 it’s been over a month of fallow, only a couple more weeks right, is it 44 days total?
I just received the 200 W version... there appears to be no way to mount it to a rimless tank without the metal bracket partially falling below the water line. It caused me concerns about leaching metals.
@@ReefDorknot concerned with the speed of growth. I want to see how the spectrum colors up the coral. The gen1s grow coral but the spectrum just not there to color them up!
My problem with my ecotech radion lights is that after a few years, they stop working. They are great lights and super expensive I just refuse to buy this radion anymore in the end they are not reliable. I'll go with the Chinese lights at 1/3 the price and still have great coverage. You can't even get 5 years out of this radion and 1000 cost.
I just think he goes in hard when he doesn’t like a product, paid or not, but it’s only his views at the end of the day, and what’s with giving the UK 🇬🇧 American dollar prices…….mad. 🤷♂️
I'm telling ya buying cheap Chinese you will buy twice. Better off buying second hand top quality product. I've spent loads on knock off and they never last or are just rubbish. By cheap buy twice, never ever again.
I've had Nicrew Gen 1 on my display tank for two years with zero issues. It's one of the rare "Chinese brands" that I feel has really matured to being a respectable name.
@elementreefer I'm still running my Ecotech Radion Gen 1. It had a years break but have been running everyday since I purchased it when they came out. If I was going to buy a Chinese brand it would be from a lfs rather than online.

Yeah, good point - I think mine didn't touch the water on my tank. It'll probably be fine but definitely worth keeping an eye on
Great review ! Bummer on the fan noise
Awesome! The video I was waiting for before committing to a light fixture.

Don't know the special names, but they're hammer corals first, an acan, red brick cyphastrea and a GSP

Thanks for the review
100w would be fine for that

@elementreefer but for someone just starting out, I'd think the costs of the blade vs the nicrew would be something to consider, agreed?
Only issue for me is that if you want to have multiple lights with different settings would need to buy more than 1 controller

How about doing a review on the Chinese radion clone version
What's it called? I thoughts that what this was 😅
@ lol it’s called A8s or A8 pro, they sell em on aliexpress , pretty identical to the radions
@Willmine11 wow, that really is a clone!
@yes and waaaaay cheaper
I can’t find a review on UA-cam
And I’m thinking of buying them
All great info but huge disappointment that you are not using the light. How do we know if they grow and color up coral compared to other lights?
Your choice of light will have very little bearing on how fast your corals grow...
@@ReefDorknot concerned with the speed of growth. I want to see how the spectrum colors up the coral. The gen1s grow coral but the spectrum just not there to color them up!
Why wouldn’t you want the light closer to the surface to reduce bleed and raise par without using more energy??
Nvm lol
Easy access and smoother spread 🙂
Just got these lights and the cooling fan is a problem, actually it is a big problem.
As in too noisy?
The Radion g4 still has more Par then the Nicrew HyperReef Gen 2
Can I daisy chain to my kessil
Don't know I'm afraid

it's not 2x better than gen 1 and i'm paying 2x the price.
