Focus should be more on TRADITIONAL track and field. Basketball, tennis have a whole eco-system outside of the Olympics. So does women's soccer (the main senior national teams are competing).
There is diamond league. And new Michael Johnson league is starting. But it's really hard to get casuals to watch track without major championship. Ofc hardcores watch everything and anything. Ofc hoping there would be better future for track but it's also just really hard.
@@MRTatsaa The comment is really more along the STATICTICAL AVERAGE, MEAN, MEDIAN. Some sporting codes are exorbitantly high and it is only MEN(male) earning. i.e Basketball and the MENS's soccer teams. Also the athletics leagues are not really the most watched, not are they on a predictable scheduled seasoned time table (i.e every in-season weekend)

@@lgarcia67 Out of Context....One of the many reasons is that Basketball is more "regular/common/frequently viewed" than say swimming/shotput/high jump. Basketball player can make much more from endorsements ALONE.
As echoed by other commenters, this list would be more interesting if the athletes highlighted became famous, and therefore rich, because of their Olympic success, not because of their professional league earnings. The Usain Bolts, Simone Biles, Michael Phelps and Michelle Kwans of the world.

They should have had non-professional basketball and tennis players instead of athletes at the NBA, ATP, WTA etc.
They did that before & it was a snooze fest. The Dream Team changed everything & people actually started watching Olympic basketball. You want the best to compete for your country, not some average Joe/college athlete.
The other countries were sending there pros against college players of the US, so the US decided to send theirs. As what Stern said, if you will ban the US for sending pro, then you ought to ban African runners. It's 100x better seeing these pros playing for the country. Countries should flex their best talents.

nba players are the most overpaid people in the whole universe, they're making more than doctors and firefighters who save lives, and there are average, average players who get like 20 points a game or somethin making more than Aaron judge, or bryce harper, or Ronald acuna, or Raffy devers, you know all the best players in baseball
How many people are buying tickets, jerseys & watching doctors/firefighters on TV? You rather the money just go to the billionaire owner instead? Baseball is a dying sport & football has taken over as America's past time. Pitchers getting paid all this money for 1, sometimes 2 days worth of work. You could easily walk all those mentioned players & they'll be useless.
Baseball players aren't as marketable as NBA players. You should blame companies and the masses for choosing the NBA. Not the players' fault that they're famous. And it's years of hard work that took them there. They have to work 10x than an average person. It's harder to reach than NBA than MLB, NFL, and hockey. 60 draft slots every year to over 4,000 that are eligible around the world-- that's insanity.
No mob is harder, in nba you get drafted and your on the pro team a few months later in mlb you have to work throughout 4 levels of the minors with everyone around you dogfighting for a chance on the big league roster and there have been a few no 1s who have never played mlb just cuz u got drafted dont mean you'll be good
