Marking lines and quilting #1 - using small orange peel as background for modern quilting

  • The initial markings I made on my quilting sandwich does not look the same like the finished project. The reason is that I used the small square grid as a help to quilt orange peel. But the orange peel is only a background. The regular design is perfect as a background for the more organic and dynamic feathers. Take a look!

      Thank you! And it gave an idea for quilting approach in my next large quilt. I have one top ready and I want to quilt it for my sister. It waits since two years..... ❤❤❤

      @@quiltingnerd Sometimes, it really takes some thought about how to quilt it, doesn't it? I am deciding on fabric for my next quilt. It will be an old-fashioned traditional one alternating snowball blocks with 9-patch in blues and soft greens with some soft marbled gold for an accent color. But, I plan to do some practice sandwiches before the actual quilting part to get my muscle memory going. God bless, Gosia, have a great week!

    I love watching how you stretch the feathers out to fill the space and don't lose the fullness.

      Thank you again! It took me some time and practice to get my feathers right. Sometimes I have probelms but lately I got the right quilting mood so they work. I love how they look ❤❤❤

    You could make a really pretty butterfly with that swirl feather design

    • @quiltingnerd
      @quiltingnerd  3 місяці тому

      That is a good idea. Thank you! quilted butterfly always looks good❤❤❤. I am always more at ease with abstract designs, but I wanted to try a more naturalistic shape since a long time.

    Love this. Sometimes the simple or repetitive designs are exactly what i need. The contrast between thread color and fabric makes it look like it is lit up.

      I love repetetive patterns as they create unique textures. Contrasting tread was more for the video sake (at the beginning) but now I love it. I use it when I want to focus more on the quilting shape that the quilt itself.... Thank you so much for your feedback! ❤❤❤

      Thank you most kindly! This is a good question. I made many pillows, some cosmetic bags. This one is still waiting for a decision, a pillow or a part of a larger QAYG project...Sonner or later I will find an application. The first one was to try something new and learn. ❤❤❤
