  • Jeff Nichols' "The Bikeriders" has been one of the better films I've watched recently. The sight, sound and acting are superb. But is it a movie that taps something deeper in our society?
It's a film worth thinking about.

Very good point - about the father angle. I've seen the film twice already, in the theater, in less than a week's time, and I'm obsessed. I can't wait to see it again. I'm a bikerider myself, but not in a club, and certainly not like these guys, although I've done large bike runs and cross-country trips. I'm an anomaly: a grandmother and musician, a female who rides solo nearly all the time - a lone wolf myself, so I felt the bikers' hearts. The Kid was, of course, the darkest part of the film, and your take on the effect of his home life on his life's direction is spot on. Even Benny's father being gone informs his own sense of both being independent and being lost at the same time. I'm glad I ran across your review in my obsession, well done.

Thanks so much for watching and contributing as one with experience on the road. Great point about Benny as well.

This is a rare gift nowadays. I believe it will become cult classics in the years to come. I was blown away by performances, visuals, atmosphere. It's overall great in my eyes. Thank you for reviewing it!

I think that as well! The theater runs are hard right now. It’s just not the golden age of cinema-going. However, stories like these will definitely make their way into homes and be classics in their own right. Thanks for leaving a comment!

Would have liked some more riding footage like Once upon a time in Hollywood but there wasn't any room for it.

The riding footage was definitely some of the best shot in the film. I’m sure loading up the huge film cameras on those rigs wasn’t easy and took forever.

Great film! No computerized special effects, a simple but real story, old time camera work, no super hero characters--just solid. Hollywood needs more films like this.

Great review, it was 10 years later this came to our side of the pond, and the MC’s have gone along the same route.

The only thing I noticed out of place was the over representation of Harley Davidson motorcycles. The original photos showed BMW, BSA and Triumph. But until it comes out on DVD to where I can freeze frame and take inventory, we will take what we can get

Well, if you think about what the founding fathers wrote and how they started the country with freedom and individualism at the forefront, I’d say this country isn’t near what they had imagined at the beginning.
Even the ones that proposed for more government back then would be wildly amazed at how involved the State has become.

Great review, and I agree about the fathers, having lived that same life during the same period as the movie, as described in my book. Well done, I subscribed.
