Thank god you released this. I’ve had A50’s for the longest and couldn’t find a website or reviewer that had a “cheap” one. I don’t care about cheap, I care about quality!
@@alexanderluna2805 "sorry we don't have any headsets over 150$".... what a joke x2 gamestops and 1 walmart. LucidSound is good, but mine died...like the battery won't keep charge. It is signed by snoop dogg and talks to me through equalizers. Ladadada...Its a shame I didn't treat it better. I may have slept on the type c while it was charging. Gonna take it to the shop. Only downside to lucid sound is earcups shriveled just by me listening to music outside when it's hot. They use rubber glue, but upside is it connects to like 4 devices at once. Never buy A gaming headset that lacks phone 📱 duality. 80% of headsets are gimmicks
As an avid PC gamer since my teens many many years ago, it’s great to see the advances in tech and games. 😁👍 I love to see Techne showing the same passion for tech also. It’s not just a prepubescent pass time but entertainment for all ages young, old & everything in between 🥰🥰
The arctis pro wireless needs a battery slot so you dont have to remove any covers to swap batteries, make the box smaller, improve the mic. You’re welcome Steelseries
Battery slot tension mechanism and buttons break over time though. My company distributes AV equipment to fitness studios and the Shure receivers have a battery door that breaks all the time ...
The sound on the Audeze Penrose must truly be the stuff of legend because every review I've seen is people complaining about the wireless/bluetooth audio mixing, or the annoying hiss when using sidetone, but then at the end it's always "BUT THE SOUND! BEST WIRELESS HEADSET EVER!!!".
I've had mine for about two months. I sit at a desk with a monitor so I'm about a foot away from my xbox. Literally zero issues with connection. I dont use the Bluetooth so I cannot speak on that. I don't get the battery life hate. I've played pretty much all day without a charge. Took about two weeks for the clamping force to loosen up. Great for all games from FPS to Open world games. I also did a firmware update right out the box. Highly recommend
@@kdegrees4204 yeah, I sit about 6 or 7ft from my Xbox and it's really solid - I've used the Bluetooth and it's fine, Apple Music HD sounds amazing on them, and had no negative feedback for voice quality on calls.
I personally use PC38x and HD6xx with a Schiit Hel for the past few months after switching from the Arctis 7. Best combo ever! The move from “gaming headset” to real headphones was a game changer for both gaming, music, and movies.
The PC38x is also easy to swap between PC and console. I use it for PC and PS5. Just plug in different cables with 3.5 mm jack, both of which were included.
I have the old Logitech G Pro, Cloud 2, the Razer Kraken and Kraken X that broke after 3 months... I searched for a nice headset for 1 year, until I decided to go for the HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless, never made a better decision in my life, the best headset I ever had !! I'm sad to see it's not on the list... but everybody is different. Nce video !
I had HyperX Revolver S, and they were realy good, but recently wanted to change for wirelles, and I had to choose between Cloud 2 and Cloud Flights S... Bought Flight S and never regret it... They are awesome... The only thing that was better for me in flight over the cloud 2 was game/chat buttons on the headset... I needed those.... About the comfort and sound they are prety much the same... Tried them both
I definitely agree with this, I also have the Cloud 2, Alpha, and also the Logitech G Pro and i think I will go back to HyperX because of its comfort. Only the HyperX feels really light after hours of usage
I love Arctis Pro Wireless.. idk, the best headset I've ever used. Never have to worry about anything. Sound quality? Very good even for a wireless headset. Connectivity? Ur choice Durability? Sure strong enough with metal band Comfort? Damn. I even often forget it's on my head. I go arround the house wearing it while doing other stuff Customization & controls? Wtf is software? Gamedac ftw Battery? The only wireless headset u'll never have to worry about battery or forgot to plug in ur headset at night and end up ran out of battery while u're in-game.
I love my penrose’s, I’ve had them since you first did the review and man I can’t even use a different headset. I also got the ear pads you recommended and watched your video on how to do it and they have been PERFECT, thank you again brotha
My penrose died last month while charging after 1 year. I can say the sound quality is really good but the battery life and 2.4ghz wireless range is average. Its have some static noise when there is no sound, sometime it have soft brick and i cant turn off the headset.
@@TienTran-uq6to I’ve had mine probably the same amount of time and no issues. Batteries aren’t always perfect tho that’s for sure. The wireless is trash for sure but does the trick for me as I just sit in front of my pc. As for the static that can be turned off in the settings, I had static when I first got them until I turned the feedback off or whatever it was, now haven’t had static since. The sound quality is just the best of any gaming headset out, not even compatible honestly, so I can over look the average “features”
I have the razer blackshark v2 pro and as of now, i cant find another headset that can beat it. It all satisfies my needs for a headset for both working and playing. The compressed mic that cancels bg noises during meetings, that reachable mute button that i can press while presenting, the volume booster that allows me to hear very soft sounds, and that very light and comfy feeling while hours of playing (im wearing eyeglasses). Thank you techne! As usual, another great review and u really know what you are saying!
Do they sound good listening to music as well? I have them in my cart & want to purchase them so bad but I can’t get an answer as to if they sound good listening to music also.
I had Astro a50s and recently purchased the Corsair virtuoso xt (High Price) well worth it . I play a lot of escape from Tarkov and they are a great choice other then Astro a50s . Even tho the astros give that deep rich bass boost . The Corsair’s pack that and more around the same price range.
I use the Astro A40s with the mix amp, and rather prefer them over the A50s. The mix amp, to me, is much more versatile and easily used rather then both being in the ear cup. The dials are smooth and easy to use, with the benefit of always being able to see what levels you are set to. I definitely can see the gripe of having a wired headset but I had nothing but issues with the connectivity with the A50s and ultimately made the switch. Now I heard you say that you have not tested them with the mod kits, these are a MUST with the Astro A50s and A40s (although I think the mod kit for the A50s were better quality). They are a bit pricey being $50-$60 but I highly suggest making the purchase and giving it a try. Comfort, isolation, and sound quality sky rocket. Always enjoy your reviews, thank you for the information!
I've had my A40s for 7 years now and have been my main for those 7, I've had no issues. If you take care of your stuff an don't go pass 85% volume on any headphones/sets and they will last. If you have corded don't wrap around headphones/sets an the cord will last.
Using the Penrose with the Wicked cushions. Out of this world (except the battery life...). Works wirelessly flawless on PC, PS5 AND Series X. Think this is worth mentioning it ;-)
@@jaron2139 wrong, I'm literally using it right now no problems - I'm telling you it's a WAY better connection than my Stealth 700 Gen 2 - and the sound is spectacular
I think my favorite headset so far is the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 2nd generation, They are the most comfortable one's I've used so far and have amazing sound. I would put the HyperX Orbit S as my second favorite, Only because they start to become really uncomfortable after a while of using them.
The Audeze mic is really nice but with: 1. disable a feature 2. replace earcushs 3. bluetooth sux 4. no indicator for mute/unmute... 5. 350€ on Amazon GER thats a little bit too much on the negative side to have it in first place!?
I had the opposite experience with the Audeze. I brought it back 2 days after I purchased it and ordered the Steelseries again (First one broke). Note, I got a 100% refund on my 3 years old Wireless Pro and I bought a new one. The Battery switch, the sound, the connection is WAY better. I couldn't believe You had it on 1 to be honest.
Wait how did you get a refund? Mine have just broke and ive spent hours researching new headphones and can't seem to find anything as good even though these are 3.5 years old!
@@zakkyriakou5469 I just called it in... It really broke. Not the audio of it but the headset himself. I sent some pictures in ad got a full refund. Also didn't do anything strange with it.
My favorite the blackshark v2 pro. I changed to v2 from astro a50 gen.2 Im playing a lot with tarkov and honestly.... the THX for me sounding better then dolby, I mean I think you really can hear the diference between the two. If you play a lot something like tarkov where is so omportant to know where the sounds are come from, THX deffenetly more accurate I think.
@@1PX Build quality is good, I had no issue with them at all! For movies and music I can't recommend tho. For gaming sure it's good far from the grate, but I think solid. For movies\music NAH.....
@@fusionguava8336 I haven't tried the Arctic series 7, but the Corsair virtuoso XT has better clarity than any of my turtle beach headsets. My friends say there's a huge difference on their end when we're on discord.
Hi, I bought the Penrose and after using them for a while, The sound is the best I have heard in a headset. Where I feel it could have been made better is the comfort. The cups are okay but at that price it should have been a little thicker and noise proof. The head band gel is too narrow and after just one to two hours playing I feel like I have a rock on my head. I have regrets not getting the Arctis 7 or even better the Pro version. I was looking for a better sound/base and got it but at that price I was expecting a better build.
My head is a little on the big side, so using any of those strap-style headsets in just not an option. I tried the HyperX Cloud II and they were just a tad too tight and are on their way back to the store. Now awaiting the Razer Black Shark V2 Pros, based 100% on their light clamping pressure. Extremely glad to have videos like this to guide me.
The Penrose are simply superb. Without needing to change anything you can go from gaming to music and both sound wonderful. I’ve never heard gaming headphones sound good with music. But the Bluetooth, SMH. One simple change is all that’s needed. Make Bluetooth volume only changeable on the device, and only applicable to the device. ATM the volume wheel changes Bluetooth volume, it also simultaneously changes the console volume. That’s crazy stupid.
I hate and love that this is the one thing Turtle Beach got correct on the Stealth 700 Gen 2 for Xbox. Comfortable as shit with the stock cooling gel Earpads and has two separate volume wheels one is dedicated strictly to Xbox One volume, other wheel can be used as a volume wheel for Bluetooth volume (so you can easily answer a phone call or listen to music via Bluetooth and adjust volume as needed without messing with your in game volume. AND they even let you change or "bind" the Bluetooth volume wheel to several different functions. So you hop on turtle beach ios or Android app and you can instantly change if you want that second volume wheel to control Xbox party/chat volume so if some squeeker kid is yelling you just turn that down and it doesn't mess with your in game volume. But...I absolutely hate that I've gone through 3 pairs of these Turtle Beach Stealth Gen 2 since I fell asleep with them on and woke up and one earpeice broke right at the place where it rotates. But then my second pair I threw them on the concrete in a fit of rage while talking on the phone to the female and they didn't even crack....so maybe I just sleep like a savage. 🤣
@@phlooke I had the Turtle Beach Elite 800’s. They never caused any Bluetooth issues. It never occurred to me such a stupid system could be implemented. I only went through two pairs. Very care, but they still broke 🙄
@@phlooke Love these, but after barely a year of hardly using them, they broke right below the left swivel putting on my normal size head. But, I do have big bear hands and tend to break everything. Im just as careful with these as a newborn and havent broke one of those yet so newborns are made better 🤣
I just found your channel after my Tb Stealth 700 gen 2 broke below the swivel after 14 months. I loved these headsets especially for the price. I thought they shouldn't have broke but again I do have big thick hands that have broke doorknobs off by turning them. After seeing and looking at all these other headsets and the problems with them, it seems the only issue I had with Tb was yea the plastic cracked. Which is fixable. I wanted something good, that wouldn't break, good sound, comfortable, bluetooth, good mic, and didn't have disconnect issues and apparently from so many reviews I read I think I have the best headset overall. I read about Premrose having connections issues and for the price and issues Tb are better. I will admit this, the stealth 700s did take a little punishment. I have laid on them, I have tossed them, not far but still, and I do have big hands. I want to try some others but I'm still not sure which one as I play on xbox, want bt and wireless, and don't want to spend 400$ on something that loses connection
Astro a40 tr for my pc and a50 for my series x. Both have mod kits. I really hope astro a50 gets a gen refresh. Now that new consoles are out and don't use optical audio anymore(expect if your TV has one)
@@_rjql when astro a50 next systems firmware update came out last year. When optical port was no longer needed I scratched my head and did some research. A lot of people said it can make a difference and some say it doesn't depending on the user. Me personally, I owned the last a50(gen 3). Optical audio is the way to go but I don't use optical audio on the pc because it's not required. I would use the optical audio for the consoles
Been using the Arctis Pro Wireless for 3 years now and love it. Love being able to have connected wirelessly to my PC for game audio and voice chat while at the same time listening to music from Spotify from my phone through bluetooth with separate volume controls for both.
How has the head piece connecting to the ear cups held up? I am considering the Arctis Pro Wireless but have read numerous reviews and saw pictures where the head piece has cracked / sperated from the earcup. I have 3 pair of gaming headsets right now and all are open box (discounted): Astro A50 Gen 4, Corsair Virtuoso XT, and Steele Series Arctis Pro Wireless. My old Astro A50 Gen 3's are not holding a charge and need a battery replacement and the base station works intermittently. Currently the Steele Series to my ears sounds the best. I also like the ability to replace the battery in the future but the weak attaching points I mentioned early give me pause.

Been home last couple of months with long Covid which caused a massive lupus flare up. So I’ve been gaming a lot and I mean a lot to pass time. I have recently bought numerous headsets but the Audeze Penrose X for my Series X is a game changing experience for gaming audio. Please do yourself a favor and get the Penrose, the Mobius, or save a few and get the Hyper X cloud S with the Audeze Planar Drivers. It’s so worth the experience. It’s guaranteed that more and more headsets will be using this tech down the road besides just Hyper X jumping In and using Auzeze’s Planar Drivers. A funny side note for those looking for the perfect “Footsteps” audio to go with Call of Duty, Halo, Fortnight, or all the rest of those competitive FPS games. In my opinion if your looking for the best “Footsteps” settings on headsets then the “FNATIC Reacts” are hands down the best. They don’t do well with anything else but hey that’s what they were Made for. The Penrose sounds fantastic out of the box. You can download and mess with the EQ for on the fly settings up to 5 by a push of a button while gaming. So overall Techie and others and you tube are spot on with Audeze. I mean right out if the box it changes your first person game experience like no other. But please if you looking and searching for “Footsteps” only man you can save a lot of money and hassle by getting “FNATIC headsets if the Audeze are to expensive. Techie did a review on them already but man just hooked up 3.5 to your controller you can hear the crunch of the snow, who’s upstairs downstairs, etc etc. I think a lot of people are searching for the perfect footstep sound for Call of Duty, Halo, and or Fortnight on console. And man you get just that with The Fnatics. Check them out if that’s what your looking for. Not that expensive, no EQ to mess with just out of the box plug in 3.5 and it’s on. Sorry to be so passionate and long with the message but I enjoy gaming always have, Use the LG C1 55 for both Series X and Ps5 so the visuals and extracting Optical Audio is Top Notch. But Techie is the man and his Passion shines Thru in these videos. This brother claims he’s not and audiophile yet I think he’s become one by spending so much time gaming and comparing these headsets. I also appreciate all you gamers dropping other Headsets that you personally like and swear by. I’m spending a lot of dough but it’s making these last couple of rough months being stuck at home a lot more bearable. Thank You Techie and all you in the gaming community. We are truly a brother and sisterhood all on its own when it comes to gaming. Game on🤙. Happiness and Peace to you all.
Can confirm I own the Audeze Penrose X they are amazing... Best sound on any gaming headphones I've ever heard... The Bluetooth is a pain in the ass... And yes i replaced the stock cushion with wicked cushions and they are fantastic.
@@MertLDN same here mine died while charging last month after 1 years. I plug it in my pc for charging and led turn off not flashing red like normal now i cant turn it on. Seem like the battery died or main circuit fried.
I called the Penrose as number 1 before I even started watching called in right just on seeing the title of the video right there... Didn't expect to see Mr Steelseries at no5 though... Stinking cozy video right there... Great content right up my street keep up the good work... And all the best for Christmas from my home to yours... Happy Holidays and you say or Merry Christmas as we say Techne...
No mention of the Corsair HS80? Th audio on this headset is phenomenal. The mic is probably the best sounding mic on a wireless headset. The mic does have an issue of being too quiet and requiring 3rd party software to make it operate at nominal levels though. Other than that, this headset is the best. Just doesn't have bluetooth.
Steel Series are overrated headsets. I used to own the artics 1 it's the worst. The bass is too bad. Razer kraken v3 it's not bad have problems with its thx spatial drivers. I think Asus we could try a Asus Penrose. I used to play cs 1.6 I know the quality of these headphones.
Thanks for another amazing video, I have been waiting for this for years! Can you make a regular video like this maybe everyone 3 month so we can so up to date on the latest and best headphone going on? Thanks.
I've owned a pair of astro gen 4 for over a year now, and I'd say the audio is amazing without doubt a superb headset with copious amounts of tunability. The 1 draw back I found was that I'd get ear fatigue wearing them on long game sessions. They touch the driver inside and give me ear ache, If the faux leather upgrade was still available and offered a deeper cup I'd part with £30 for the luxury for sure, but after owning these so long I've been looking at an upgrade and tempted by the V2's 🤔
hey techne, i love watching your videos!! i was wondering when you will do the steelseries arctis 7+ and also an in depth on how to use sonar or even just the app that came with it because nobody has a video on that right now and i'm having a hard time matching my audio from my old arctis 7 to this new one.
Arctic pro’s have a really bad flaw that will completely ruin the headset after a decent chunk of avid use. The plastic in the hinge will crack, and will make it very difficult to use the headset without it falling off very easily.
The first 3 headphone brands just felt like their sound was incredibly washed out and very cheap in a way, especially the Virtuoso and Arctis 7 (haven't tried the pro). Virtuoso's were comfy/high-quality feeling, but awfully shallow sounding even after boosting, which they couldn't handle much of at all without distortion, same with Arctis. The last 2 are great though. The Razer Sharks V2 with their new 50mm titanium drivers and the Penrose with the Planar Magnetics. Only issue with Penrose for me is it hurts the top of my head after about 30 mins to an hour, but everywhere else feels great personally; I'm debating on putting on the Wicked Cushions to see if it will alleviate the top head band or if I should return them. Their sound is incredible, bass is good once you push the 32hz and 64hz up to 6-10 range, but they just can't give that fun and comfy feeling I've been spoiled with below. My top pick personally is the Razer V3 Hypsersense. I've never experienced anything like those headphones in my life, and the bass/fun/immersion you get out of those, alongside balanced sound from those new 50mm titanium drivers are incredible. I never thought I'd wear or even use another Razer product ever again because they tend to be China cheap-o, but here I am. I like that the haptics are optional with the button and the sound is still clear either way. Waiting for wireless version to come in and compare, but may wait for Razer to update those, it's about that time. Cheers
Hey I have a question that I don't know if you can help me with. I have been looking at a bunch of different headsets. My friend just got the Razer Nari Ultimate headset and the haptics are insanely cool for listening to bass heavy music. I saw that corsair had their new haptic headset so I got that, but it was nowhere near the nari ultimate. Do you have an opinion on which is better between the V3's and the Nari Ultimate?
I am torn between the blackshark v2 pros or the kraken v3 pros. I have seen a lot of mixed reviews on hypersense. Have you experienced issues with them?
Did you make this video just so SteelSeries will refresh the Arctis Pros lol? I'm in for that. Upgrade Mic. Keep same battery system (Maybe so when I upgrade, I can use the two I already have). Upgrade drivers. I was hoping Audeze Penrose was #1 since I just bought them per your recommendation. Wicked Cushions are a must, but I'd recommend them for every headset you can use them on anyway.
Ok I brought the Corsairs… I had them a week and due to the fact you can’t adjust eq and use on ps5 without them resetting 🙄. I returned them. 😞. I grabbed on special the razor v2 and for the price and what you get with eq that actually works and saves can say unless you have a pc is the way to go imo. Thanks heaps Techne you really do give best reviews without hiding issues! Fair and honest! 💙🥳
I did detailed stand alone videos on all these headsets, so if you want a deeper dive into a set check them out. - Audeze Penrose Mod Video = ua-cam.com/video/B3fM1U10bTg/v-deo.html - EQ Setting Video = ua-cam.com/video/kKMOBW7ji9s/v-deo.html
I mean while i highly disagree with your list, it was a great video. Thanks for recommending great headphones. But i am disappointed the pc38x, epos h6pro & mmx 150 where not in this video because i have tried all of these headphones from friends and shops and these would definitely be top 3
The Blacksharks are really comfy, they are really that good. Love the build quality but wow micro usb in 2021 (and soon to be 2022) is just an instant "no buy" Also, sidetone is broken on the wireless one. It's there but very faint and you have to run the headset at 100% volume for it to even work. Sidetone on the USB version is working as it should. Razer Kairas are also very good, outstanding sidetone
If you're looking for a Headset/Headphones with insane sound and aren't worried about it not having a built in mic, I would HIGHLY recommend the Sennheiser HD560s. They are hands down the best sounding headphones I've ever used. They're studio headphones so they don't have a built in mic like gaming headsets, but get a cheap yeti and you have yourself a killer setup. Not to mention they're only $200
Senheiser are the best for old games. I don't know about newest games. But if you are an esport gamer you depend on your setup better get the senheiser.
Great video, here's an idea because there really isn't much info on this out there apart from like one small sub-reddit; Review some BLUETOOTH aptX Low Latency headphones or similar low latency codec devices that would work for gaming. Some people say Sony WH-1000XM3 have low latency to the point where they're good for gaming because of the chipset/codec used even without official aptX-LL support and this would make some VERY interesting content as for gaming headset alternatives. (Obviously minus the MIC). Bluetooth 5.0 is now advanced enough to pull this off with better connectivity range, we just haven't gotten to test the right devices on this aspect of usage. Battery is better with BT with most devices supporting 30 and 40+ hrs at this point, is comfort as good or doesn't come close to say ARCTIS etc. BT has come a very long way but people still live with the assumption that its bad in comparison to RF. Please do consider it and best of wishes...
My issue with the Steelseries Arctic is the price. The headset is more expensive than an Xbox Series S...even comparing to some scalpers. Not even like an overpriced Bose QuietComfort is this expensive, and even judging from the sound quality and especially mic quality, the price does NOT justify the means. Bring that baby down $150 bucks and we're ready to rock n' roll.
are you going to do a review or comparison between audese penrose and B&O portal? Which one would you recommend, without consideration to the price. thanks
Great video and reviews! But what happened to the Master and Dynamic MG20s?!? That’s considered “best if the best”, right?!? Would love to see you do a review on those high end gaming headphones!
They are mediocre and not worth the price. Mic isn’t great and there is no side tone option. Can’t edit eq. Things that need to be included in a 450 dollar headset. Surround sound feature sounds absolutely terrible and turns on by default when you power up the headset. They do sound great though, that is there one redeeming quality.
First time I've visited the channel. The information was great but I kept having thoughts in the back of my head that took away from some it. I kept going back to thinking of J-roc from trailer park boys. You give off the same exact vibe.
I have the penroze now for 6 months, and stinkin love them. Soundstage is unmatched out of the box and I use it on PS5 without 3D audio enabled because I think it's much more detailed!
Had the Wired Pros for a while and I have to agree. They do a lot of things well, but there's definite issues. I had issues with the hinge, not noticing a crack even after replacing them due to a consistent sound issue in one side of the headphone. So, I'd say restructure the hinges the headphones themselves and probably partner with a mic manufacturer to replace what they have now. I had the Virtuoso's for a short time and really only returned them due to the price and some minor issues. But one thing I thought was really cool was it had two audio ports, so I got a really cool set up by wiring my PS4 cord and the laptop USB as well, which meant I could game and watch/listen to YT. Got the V2 wired currently and the dial does get a little finicky where you have to wiggle it to get full sound, same with Arctis, but that might be user error for all I know. lol. I've been hearing and seeing so many good things that I'm leaning toward the Penrose. Though I am perusing the various reviews to keep my options open.
I would have to agree, I also have the Pros, and have used them for the past 2 years, and have absolutely loved them, both sound and mic are very good. However last week... I also got a crack and it is now getting worse by the hour, literally, every time I take them of my head they just deteriorate, so here I am... looking for new headphones to buy, before the hinge completely loses it and the headphone falls off :D
The word is NOT slack. The word you need to use is FLACK. Flack is bad. "I'm getting a lot of flack (bad comments)." "Slack" is used in "Cut me some slack." That means give me a break---some leeway.
I bought bought the Penrose X after watching your previous review on them... Thanks for your insight...But Yo, where can I get those glasses you got on?! They're bad ass!!
After 6 years of owning a cloud II I loved it but... 6 years. which one would you recommend, hyperx cloud alpha or logitech pro x? I dont listen to music, I only play competitive fps games. Love ur vids.
Hi Techne, I currently have an arctis pro wireless and am looking for a replacement as it's breaking and probably won't last another month, I'm looking for a headset with Bluetooth and preferably wireless as well, though wired isn't an issue as long as I can use Bluetooth at the same time. What would you suggest?
Absolutely love my Penrose for the series X. I don't have an issue with sidetone, and I actually need it. I found myself having a hard time keeping my voice down during firefights. Also zero connection issues with mine. I can usually get a room away before they disconnect, which I find reasonable. If Audeze would change the way Bluetooth is controlled, this would be the perfect headset. Not sure why they thought tying system volume to BT volume was a good idea...
I had the Arctic Pro's which had great forward soundstage but overall sound quality was poor. Then had the ROG Delta's which had phenomenal sound but fell apart after 18 months of daily use and currently got the v2 pros and they are 'very good' with the 50 mil drive but just short of 'great' on everything else. Now I've opted to go down a different route by recently purchasing the schiit fulla 4 gaming dac + Sennheiser IE 800 S (as I'm just not convinced by the current 'gaming' headphone lineup.) I'll have to see if my gamble pays off.
sheesh talk about an investment. If I had those type of funds I'd save up for the HD 800s since a lot of big audioheads swear by them for gaming, as well as just overall sound. I'm not one to talk since I just bought HD 600s, but I didn't particularly buy them purely for gaming. Which may mean I might invest in an amp as well for the full sound.
Such A Great Video! After Checking Out The Razer Black Shark Pro Review I Went Out And Got Them, Absolutely Fantastic Headset! Thank You For Steering Me In The Right Direction!!
Another great video dude thank you so much. Even though I don’t need another headset as I have one already and just ordered the Razer Kaira for my PS5, I still enjoyed the video. I have to say though for the first time I have to disagree on a couple of things. First, Astro can no way be above the Arctic Pro, just no way lol and secondly the Penrose, my friend has it and whilst it sounds amazing, it was the most uncomfortable headset ever. I know you can put on some wicked cushions, but the way I see it is, if I’m paying a premium price for a headset, it has to be comfortable out of the box. Another thing I’ve always said is, I’ve tried a lot of headsets and the one thing I can honestly say is, anything £100 and above, give or take a couple of metres, footsteps will be heard from the same distance and with similar clarity. I use my headset for gaming only and mostly for precise directional sound for footsteps in FPS games and I have headphones for music. Unless people out there more care about the bass or warm sound, I don’t recommend spending anything more than £150. Again another great video and love your energy.
@@mus.k25 I use Beyerdynamic and also have a pair of Sennheiser’s. You can also use these for gaming, but I love the convenience of wireless and no wires dangling anywhere, so that’s why I use wireless gaming headset for gaming and for music the other two.
@@zacdubravec6574 This all depends on the person and their hearing. Everyone’s heating is different. I had to send the Razer Kaira back as their app seems to be buggy and went back to my old Astro A20 Gen 2. Believe me I’ve tried so many headsets and I mean lots and based on my hearing and experience what I’ve found is, regardless of how much a headset or headphone is, footsteps will be heard clearly from about the same distance in let’s say Warzone, give or take couple of metres. Yes of you get a high end headphone (not headset) or even a high end headset, you’ll get more clarity or cleaner sound, but it doesn’t mean you’ll hear footsteps from further away. When I’m playing games, I don’t care about sound quality as such, because I’m only playing a game, so as long as the sound is clean and has enough clarity, it’s a win for me. I’ve tested the Astro A20 against quite a few headsets including it’s more expensive big brother Astro A50, SteelSeries Arctic’s Pro Wireless and more. The following is my experience based on my hearing. From how far I can CLEARLY hear footsteps in Warzone and gets louder closer the enemy gets: Astro A20 - 30 meters Astro A50 - 30 meters SteelSeries Arctic’s Pro Wireless: 32 meters I could list loads more, but as mentioned above they’re all going to roughly give you the same distance in terms of footsteps. Astro A20 is only £99 and I can honestly say it’s a brilliant headset in my opinion. It has the comfort, it gets quite loud, it has 3 EQ profiles preinstalled and can choose it at a touch of a button…Astro, Pro and Signature. Put it on Pro and you’re good to go. It generally has a nice warm sound, very clear sound, and all you have to do is put it on Pro EQ and you’re set for FPS games. I still think Astro accidentally developed the perfect headset without realising and priced it very cheap. I’m sorry for the long reply 🤣
Hey i just bought the 7+, is the audio on the WirelessPro the same audio? question 2) i found the frame to be too tight on clamp on the Wired Pro's, but not the 7's. is the wireless pro identical to the wired pro? i would hope it isn't. 3) unmodded, most comfty headset? and is it a landslide victory?
Guys I’ve tried a few of these, I swear by the wired version of Penrose, which is the Mobius. Can’t go wrong with either but I prefer wired for now. If reviewers don’t have Audeze cans on their reviews, something is wrong lol. It sucked too I had to pay import tax to Canada just to get the mobius but 100% glad I did!
have to say after watching your videos, been using the hd6xx. decided to get the penrose. jesus. what a headset. Even without the earpads and headrest its epic (i have the earpads and headset coming). The volume is loud as hell, the seperation is awesome, it really has more bass than the hd6xx and more treble. theres not really anything it doesnt do better than the hd6xx (i still ove the headset, amp/dac combo i have to though, but its going to my son, replace his shp phillips headset.). Thanks for all you do.
Great video as always, been a long time subscriber for this reason. Serious question, should I buy the Corsair HS80 wireless rgb or the Razer Blackshark V2 pro? I cannot seem to decide. HS80 has shorter battery life but better sound and mic, whilst the V2 pro has the best comfort. What should I do? A response would make my week
I just got a Razer Blackshark V2 pro and love it. The only complaint I have is that the mic is not as good quality as my old Turtle Beach stealths. But other than that, they are great. The surround sound is an amazing feature that I absolutely love, and they are next level in terms of comfort. 10/10 on the comfort. I can’t speak for the Corsair, but the Blacksharks are definitely amazing headsets that I would recommend.
@@ijlbasketmanyt1861 How is the wireless range? And can you charge it while playing? Also, can it go really loud and does it have hard bass? Would love to know
@@Atoximed I would say the wireless range is about 35 ft give or take. Yeah you can use while it is charging. I was able to get it pretty loud adjusting both the headphone settings and pc settings. I was able to hear the audio pretty loud just keeping them off my head. And the bass is noticeable but not anything I really care about. There is a bass boost setting in Razer synapse if you want to tone it down a little. I believe the default setting is 50 on it. One thing to keep in mind is that if you have an Xbox they do not connect wirelessly to it, but can be connected via wired.
I bought the Virtuoso XT when they released them, and i agree on the out of the box audio.... i wasnt surprised... but when i played with the EQ in the ICUE.. damn! I feel like i got the same sound as i got on my old Audio Tecnica headset! I love them!
Love your channel so much, i will buy the Audeze Penrose soon, i need them in my life 🙏🏻. I will be trying this week the Corsair Virtuoso XT and the SteelSeries Arctis 9X.
They are really cheap feel for the money. Wouldnt recommend them to anyone. I couldnt believe that they cost that much considering the build quality. They seem to just ride with the name. Below average quality. Dont waste your money on that shit...
Penrose are the best gaming headphones I have, after half a year I will say that the comfort is rather average, but you can get used to it. The look, well, it does not impress. But the sound quality does not compare with other headphones of this type. This is a completely different league. In addition, the maximum volume is such that even a deaf person can hear.
Ended up getting the astro A50, was between pro wireless and a50s, I wrote the penrose off due to the high clamping force (I have a crazy large head and ears). Ended up getting a good deal on the astro A50 and love the charging dock. Had to get some third party ear cushions though as the stock ones weren't deep enough for me, found some on amazon that come with the magnets and quite alot deeper, very comfortable now
@@christianhechtel same, the ear cups make so much noise and the mic is in such a bad place lmao. Not comfortable whatsoever and the clamping force is nothing.
@@stkjuice I bought the original leather cushions from Astro. The headphones get definitely better. They are now softer and sound is better. I recommend buying them.
Please review the lucid sound ls50x. Some say this competes sound wise with the audeze penrose. I just purchased the audeze because of your review. I am curious what you think of the lucid headset.
@@TheTechne hi techne, should i buy corsair hs50 pro or 60pro surround? I have an amp and audio card( fnatic audio card and soundblaster x3),I really like your videos keep it up
I currently have the V2 Pros but am considering upgrading to A50s, but according to your list they would be a downgrade. My question is, is the sound quality on V2s actually better because from the list it seems the V2s got a higher ranking for comfort and design and while I agree, I do prefer those aspects too when compared to A50s, if the sound quality is superior on the A50s I would gladly upgrade even at a greater cost, the A50s also got a higher score RTINGS if that means anything.
I use my headset on a Ps5 and play Warzone. The Razer BlackShark V2 pros are great, easy to setup, but they’re not loud enough for me and they suck when listening to music! I don’t have a computer so I never got a chance to mess with the software 😭😭 I recently purchased the A50 and before I get into the negatives I will say they’re comfy as hell and are second to the razer, the Astros let in sound through their earmuffs unlike the razer that seal in tight so if you turn them up high it will be picked up by the mic and you’ll get an echo going for your teammates. YEA THESE F**KERS ARE LOUD! 👍🏽👍🏽 great for listening to music too! But here we go boy oh boy are they a pain in the ass to setup! Don’t get me started on charging them! You have to unplug this and connect that… too much BS for me… and not having a windscreen on the mic!? Terrible design since I play with friends I want to be considerate to what they hear as well, so if you want a fan blowing on you forget about it, they’re hear it!! they have some foam tips on Amazon but idk if I’m welling to give it a shot. I’m seriously considering going back to the Razer BlackShark simply besucase of how easy they are to use! And go check out bestbuy they’re $100+ less than the Astros A50 😢
Thank god you released this. I’ve had A50’s for the longest and couldn’t find a website or reviewer that had a “cheap” one. I don’t care about cheap, I care about quality!

I own them and have no problems with connection and yes the sound is amazing - especially with the Dolby Atmos app 😍

Totally agree I use a pc38x just powered by my Xbox controller. Way better than any gaming headset. But I wanna try the 560s or sundara if I get a pc
The PC38x is also easy to swap between PC and console. I use it for PC and PS5. Just plug in different cables with 3.5 mm jack, both of which were included.

These any good for Xbox series x?
Recently baught the a40 mixamp duo and just ordered thr mod kit. Can't wait to see how they improve an amazing headset
And that comment is going to be my first time buying the Astro a40s I'm definitely getting them thank you for that comment
I've had my A40s for 7 years now and have been my main for those 7, I've had no issues. If you take care of your stuff an don't go pass 85% volume on any headphones/sets and they will last. If you have corded don't wrap around headphones/sets an the cord will last.

How does the Penrose connect wirelessly with the Series X?
Penrose the worst connectivity not worth using.
@@jaron2139 wrong, I'm literally using it right now no problems - I'm telling you it's a WAY better connection than my Stealth 700 Gen 2 - and the sound is spectacular

Forreal the padding on head is severely lacking…. fantastic sound but big issue with headset is exactly the padding
I love reviewers that give comparison and price range for their products. Thank you!
Can’t believe no one has mentioned the fact that for $300 the Penrose doesn’t have 3D audio when headsets that are half the price do.

Sorry to be so passionate and long with the message but I enjoy gaming always have,

I called the Penrose as number 1 before I even started watching called in right just on seeing the title of the video right there... Didn't expect to see Mr Steelseries at no5 though... Stinking cozy video right there... Great content right up my street keep up the good work... And all the best for Christmas from my home to yours... Happy Holidays and you say or Merry Christmas as we say Techne...
thank you so much! and yeah man it was tough butting them on the bottom, still an amazing headset, but man we need a refresh
I bought the Penrose on your recommendation. I don't regret it all. It's sound is the best I have ever had.
I came from a Arctis 7x.
It is super comfort for long use?
It's the same with all the steelseries with that hinge. It's a shame because I really liked the headset.
i like the modding , any extra info to make better informed decisions is good
The first 3 headphone brands just felt like their sound was incredibly washed out and very cheap in a way, especially the Virtuoso and Arctis 7 (haven't tried the pro).
@@andrak123 that’s the ones I am torn between.
I would follow this guy to Mordor and into the gut of Mt. Doom based on his oration skills. Top notch quality content here.
The only headset that I can accept in these are the Audeze headset.
what about the corsair HS80
Around 250 or less for a PC and PS5 headset, what are you going for these days? Thanks, great vids. Earned a sub.

I mean while i highly disagree with your list, it was a great video. Thanks for recommending great headphones.
But i am disappointed the pc38x, epos h6pro & mmx 150 where not in this video because i have tried all of these headphones from friends and shops and these would definitely be top 3
@@beni5149 none of these headsets belong in a “gaming headset” top 3, you may be the maybe too 10 but definitely not top 3.
@@beni5149 I get it I can’t blame him. he is sponsored by certain headphone company’s. He has high caliber headsets in the background.
Cant i just use the blacksharks wired?
If you're looking for a Headset/Headphones with insane sound and aren't worried about it not having a built in mic, I would HIGHLY recommend the Sennheiser HD560s. They are hands down the best sounding headphones I've ever used. They're studio headphones so they don't have a built in mic like gaming headsets, but get a cheap yeti and you have yourself a killer setup. Not to mention they're only $200
Senheiser are the best for old games. I don't know about newest games. But if you are an esport gamer you depend on your setup better get the senheiser.
Great video, here's an idea because there really isn't much info on this out there apart from like one small sub-reddit;
Review some BLUETOOTH aptX Low Latency headphones or similar low latency codec devices that would work for gaming.
I don't have the blackshark V2 pros but I do have the Blackshark V2 (wired) and V2 X. These are so amazing in every field from comfort to sound.
any good budget headphones or earphones out there? ones without a microphone attached to it?
Soundstage is unmatched out of the box and I use it on PS5 without 3D audio enabled because I think it's much more detailed!

nice review. It will help me a lot to decide which one to buy! thanks
I'm currently using the Wireless A50s. Is there any headset that you recommend that would be worth the upgrade from the A50s?
I swear I just told myself yesterday I don’t need another headset and then you drop this video. Damn you Techne! Lol awesome video man
lol, I tell myself everyday, I don't need another headset/keyboard/mouse, lol
Not having sidetone is a killer for me, is the audeeze really that bad with it?
why do people use wireless despite its latency and having to charge them in order to be used.
im curious and im open to discussion
I pee a lot.
The word is NOT slack. The word you need to use is FLACK. Flack is bad. "I'm getting a lot of flack (bad comments)."
"Slack" is used in "Cut me some slack." That means give me a break---some leeway.
Awesome selection of headsets , awesome video as always. Have a Merry Christmas Techne. Peace.
Always love your reviews!
I bought bought the Penrose X after watching your previous review on them... Thanks for your insight...But Yo, where can I get those glasses you got on?! They're bad ass!!

Audeze is the master race of gaming headsets now! ☺️

Great review. Saw a couple of your other videos on the penrose glad it’s number one because I just placed an order for them yesterday 🤙🏽
your gonna love them man!
After 6 years of owning a cloud II I loved it but... 6 years. which one would you recommend, hyperx cloud alpha or logitech pro x? I dont listen to music, I only play competitive fps games. Love ur vids.
Stay away from the Logitech x pro, you'll be disappointed, I had them and went to cloud II wireless and they are better.
Hi Techne,
I currently have an arctis pro wireless and am looking for a replacement as it's breaking and probably won't last another month, I'm looking for a headset with Bluetooth and preferably wireless as well, though wired isn't an issue as long as I can use Bluetooth at the same time. What would you suggest?
My Arctis Pro wireless just broke… I love the headset & the features but can’t fkn believe a $420 CAD headset just snapped from regular use…
Can you do the chat mix on the headset
Mines broke yesterday cheap plastic buying metal headset from now on
I had the Arctic Pro's which had great forward soundstage but overall sound quality was poor.
Again another great video and love your energy.
what headphones would u recommend for music?
@@mus.k25 I use Beyerdynamic and also have a pair of Sennheiser’s. You can also use these for gaming, but I love the convenience of wireless and no wires dangling anywhere, so that’s why I use wireless gaming headset for gaming and for music the other two.
@@famezy9103 what headset would you recommend or do you use for fps games and that is under £150?
From how far I can CLEARLY hear footsteps in Warzone and gets louder closer the enemy gets:
Astro A20 - 30 meters
Astro A50 - 30 meters
SteelSeries Arctic’s Pro Wireless: 32 meters
I could list loads more, but as mentioned above they’re all going to roughly give you the same distance in terms of footsteps.
How did the #1 have soooo many issues and have to mod them and still come in first…
lol
Im surprised that Arctis Nova Pro is not on the top 5 list.
Or that model came out later?
What do you prefer for fps (warzone in particular)? The arctis pro or the Penrose x?
have to say after watching your videos, been using the hd6xx. decided to get the penrose. jesus. what a headset. Thanks for all you do.
for me steelseries artics pro is good for long use, no need to think about the battery and the sound is very good.
How much more are the xt's worth over the V2 pros? Might use Bluetooth a lot tho
Same
I just got a Razer Blackshark V2 pro and love it.
Penrose are the best gaming headphones I have, after half a year I will say that the comfort is rather average, but you can get used to it. The look, well, it does not impress. But the sound quality does not compare with other headphones of this type. This is a completely different league. In addition, the maximum volume is such that even a deaf person can hear.
you can actually see the red light for the arctis pro through the wind screen pretty easily since its right in your face as you said

Ended up getting the astro A50, was between pro wireless and a50s, I wrote the penrose off due to the high clamping force (I have a crazy large head and ears).
I don’t have a computer so I never got a chance to mess with the software 😭😭
I recently purchased the A50 and before I get into the negatives I will say they’re comfy as hell and are second to the razer, the Astros let in sound through their earmuffs unlike the razer that seal in tight so if you turn them up high it will be picked up by the mic and you’ll get an echo going for your teammates.
