Below are some of the conversations and questions from the live chat, including links to resources!
Elena Prisekin asked: “I’m interested in building with hemp given its both insulation and fire resistance characteristics and would like to know of any efforts in that direction."
Alex Sexsmith responded: “Elena, I'm an Architect, and on the board of the USHBA. Quite a few people are building with hemp-lime construction, especially now that it's formally in the International Residential Code.”

Erica Massey, Regenerative Geo Services asked: “Hi I'm in Canada, is anyone else from here? Am curious about hemp wood debris use to produce biochar from the wood waste. Have heard it is excellent for rebuilding soils.”
Michael Klepacz responded: Using hemp hurds (shives) as a resource for biochar is an excellent idea.

Jeni Ellis Halliday “Hi from Popsfarmformothernature.com in Claremore, OK. We are seeking a CSA farmer and open to hemp farming.”

Sue Van Hook - MycoBuoys shared: “At MycoBuoys now and as the former Chief Mycologist at Ecovative, hemp is ideal as the feedstock for many of our fungal strains. Indeed it is the most marine resistant fiber for our flotation devices. We are behind other countries here in the US. We need more hemp decortication processors to use the whole plant. The Hemp Train manufactured by Canadian Greenfield unbundles dried hemp bales and pulls out the bast fibers for rope and fabrics, the CBD, nutrients for animal and plant feed, and the Hurd for animal bedding, hempcrete and MycoBuoys. That is 7 markets available to hemp growers when we think about the whole plant economy. I use our leftover myceliated substrate as row covers instead of plastic at 2-3 inches depth. It keeps weeds out, retains soil moisture, absorbs and holds moisture and slowly releases N and P to the plants. After 3-5 months it will break apart and is easily incorporated into the soil to increase carbon content for decomposers. The chitin of the mycelium of course stores the carbon longer in the soil as it is more difficult to break down.”
Erica Massey, Regenerative Geo Services asked: What is myceliated substrate look like and how is it made?
Sue Van Hook responded: Visit www.mycobuoys.com to see the raw materials

Martha Kellerhals asked: “Can hemp and flax share processing equipment - alternating between batches?”
Michael Klepacz responded: They can and they do. But flax is really set for 1 meter heights only.

Martha Kellerhals shared: The Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) has been doing some interesting research exploring the potential of a hemp-based bio-regional hemp economy - systemicdesign...
Also in Switzerland (Glarus), there is a regional industrial hemp cooperative doing some great stuff! glaernischtext...

Erica Massey, Regenerative Geo Services shared: “Using hemp hurd/wood waste for biochar gives opportunity to create another area of income from offering carbon credits to investors, since it is carbon sequestration. In addition to selling the biochar (about $1000/ton in Canada right now). I'm a geoscientist moving away from mining to work with farmers here to teach these practices. Huge learning curve. Thanks for all of this information and discussion.”

Ana Rinf asked : “I’m a botanist at the Montreal Botanical Garden research and development dept. We have a lot of Phytoremediation projects. To completely decontaminate a site will take years (ex: easily 30 years +). Where can I find data relating to the efficiency of hemp in phytoremediation?”
