He’s 18, it’s technically a first offense. The judge is limited in this case. As well, it may be living with his grandparents could help with discipline and life lessons. Judges have to weight the options. Some work some don’t.

It pisses everyone off, but sadly judges will hardly ever hand out sentences that are in accordance with the crime.
That's why there's a growing number of people that decide to take matters in their own hand, because the judicial system is letting them down time after time.

because when you grew up a minimum wage job could support a family of 4. Now a minimum wage job can barely support one person. Now our defendant has a different problem, he can barely read and write, so I assume that his IQ is on the lower side and he didn't attend school. He is 'hoodlum' so to speak, hanging around the neighborhood doing nothing productive, eventually getting into crime and then getting caught. His intellect may have not allowed him to see his life long term. Some need a gentle push in the right direction, other like here need a hard push and the threat of prison. This is very common for young male adults in their 20s. When they hit their 30s they settle down and stop getting into trouble, most of the time.

Kids are so different from when I was a kid. So entitled, wanting everything for nothing and lazy...not ALL, but many. This judge is very firm but yet very sincere and compassionate. I might add that Trump has not read the Constitution and when someone tried to teach him he threw them out. since he has lived with no rules all his life, he sees no reason to have a Constitution. and those who follow him agree. Rules start at 2 and somebody skipped it with this kid. he is going to have a rough 15 years and will be in jail whether he goes now. or later. betting on 1 year before prison.

Cursive writing is sooo down the list of what children need to learn to live in today's tech world. Only old people care about cursive and when they were in school the government wasn't breathing down the teachers back.

"Miss Laura"... inhale sob inhale gasp...."Miss Laura I killed my mother." Sob "I killed her." gasp "I wanted to come home." tearful voice trails off in hurt, sadness, devastation and despair....
