In Naruto, there is a lot of inconsistencies like this one, Iruka growing up without parents, how the First Hokage die, etc.
The main reason is that Kishimoto wrote himself in a corner. He probably didn’t think about it while writing it.

@@Jonthegreat18iruka’s parents died in the 9 tails attack wym? As for hashirama dying not getting an answer isn’t an inconsistency. It’s not like his death is plot relevant or anything. Most likely he died cuz of how much he’d shortened his lifespan from the regen

@@Missing_Nin Iruka was 23 when he was teach Naruto in the academy. Naruto was 12 when graduating from the academy. 23 - 12= 11 years old when the Nine Tales attacked.
Last time I checked, he known his parents for 11 years. Which means he knew parents love. And it was said he didn’t know.
And this is what I mean by inconsistency or plot holes.
As far as First Hokage, I can’t say much without giving spoilers, but some one said something about First Hokage that made it seemed like he couldn’t die.

@@Jonthegreat18 Iruka is 22 at the start of part 1 so he was 10 when the 9 tails attacked. You can say that he knows what a parents love is like but he equally knows what it’s like to be without it as well. You can say it’s closer to a Sasuke situation than Naruto’s but plenty of correlations are made between them two as well. The comparison being made between Iruka and Naruto is the acting out for attention when deprived of parental attention. As for hashirama assuming we’re referencing the same thing remember what Tsunade says about mitotic regeneration. There are a finite amount of times a body can create new cells and so every time someone regens or is being healed they are shortening their lifespan

Your question is actually one of the most hotly debated ones in Naruto. I wont say whether it gets fleshed out more or not, but i will say that, at the end of the day to the villagers he is not just Naruto, he is also the monster who killed their friends, parents, siblings, kids, etc. Grief makes people act rashly and Naruto became the scapegoat for all the feelings these people had. What potentially made it worse was as we saw at the beginning, some people didnt know completely how the seal worked ane believed the fox was possessing him from the start

I dunno if you speak of this or if it's one of the clips your patreons showed you, but there is an anime-only scene with Shikamaru and his dad, after Asuma's death that shows him asking his son to play Shogi with him. I won't say anymore if you haven't seen it, but I want to say, that's a scene that added SO MUCH to Shikamaru's relationship with his dad and his feelings towards Asuma and his death, and how he was handling his grief.
This whole arc does bring Shikamaru forth from the myriad of unpolished side-characters and I love that it did. He was an interesting character I've wanted to see more from since he started coming to the limelight in the first part of Naruto and it felt so good seeing a side-character carry a whole portion of the story while Naruto was just doing something else.

I love the parallels between Naruto vs Pain and Sasuke vs Itachi here. Both are given a great power to defeat the villain, a power which only happens because of the death of a person close to them, someone whom both would trade that power back in a heartbeat to get who was lost back. Both Naruto and Sasuke have a moment where they lose control and turn into an 8 headed/tailed monster but they are saved by a loved one and the power is resealed. Sasuke vs Itachi is Sasuke discovering an evil man is actually truly good and Naruto vs Pain is Naruto having to explain to a man who purports to be good why what he is doing is actually evil

I mean cool changing eyeball visual designs does Look Cooler than anything like a Hollow in bleach having its hole get filled in again or something… dunno why I’m thinking of the Ulquiorra fight ending scene though I guess that’s just more for growth of your female deuteragonist… though the drama there is so tasty that it overshadows the impact that the other characters get and it almost makes it feel like Aî-sán’s choices after could’ve been made more dramatic psychologically but then it wouldn’t be as dramatic as how some of it goes down… man Yâmà-jí is a boss there… man talking bleach no spoilers is difficult to make the point without saying too much…

      Nevermindit…
But My favourite part about the Pain fight which is RARELY talked about is how he’s literally fighting the man that inspired the writing of a character named Nárūtō which his own father felt inspired to borrow this name which I guess is almost like a joke nickname alluding to Nágàtō which… I know there’s a whole episode of a few where we see that scenes from the book and it’s writing but I forget where they’re placed…
But man the issues you reach when Naming a character after something to continue motivating a child that Literally Creates that child accidentally through his student’s child being given the actual name…
& the weight there is how some of this makes sense because of later reveals but also some of the weight of a “Master of the Six Paths” idea is kinda destroyed by later revelations around the eyes and where they come from… not even bringing up all the theories of how Nárūtō will get the Rinnégán (and all the lame what ifs that are usually just fan fic where they rarely even explore the character much unless it’s stuff where you can tell they need to try doing fan theories but ways that often don’t work… been a while since I heard one that doesn’t sound written by bad A.I. you know?
But writing magical eyeball powers is complicated…
Though maybe the will of the eyes to have additional clone bodies & Nágàtō not simply using prétà path or whatever the chákrà/life-sucking ability which SHOULD be able to fully heal himself whenever he feels like it unless there’s something More Complex on the cost of the technique he uses as a kid? Which I guess then cripples him or something…
Instead of just wrecking and killing he could’ve just gone to chat with the hōkágé and whe probably could’ve healed him with just a few Mini-Kátsūyū clones…. Or I guess they’re not clones since they’re all the same one Lady Kátsūyū… man my dialogue is getting me banned from shīkkôtsū forest twitter… do excuse…

I actually think Nagato's choice at the end made sense from his character. It wasn't that he didn't want to hope for a better future. It was just that he simply couldn't anymore. Then, when he tried to convince another of Jiraya's students of his cause and the cynical line of thinking that he himself held, he was not only met by resolve from Naruto to keep believing in a greater future for humanity, even after having bore witness to the destruction of most of his village and death of his comrades, but also was reminded of his friend from long ago with the same idealism and the hope that Naruto had. This didn't mean, however, that he could just change back to that optimistic young adult he had been at one point, but when faced with death regardless of what he was going to do after Naruto beat him, he chose not to stick to his guns and give that hope a chance in the form of Naruto. He died a cynic, but one who right at the end chose hope because he didn't have anything to lose by doing so.

One thing I LOVED in the Naruto and Nagato final scene was when Naruto, after hearing Nagato's story, he still can't found it in him to forgive Nagato. All the rage and pain doesn't just go away. Yet, he choses to trust his master's words, believe in his vision and gains a lot of strength from Jiraya's belief in him. He choses to hold true to his values and stand strong besides his feelings for Nagato and besides his pain. That made the scene more relatable and much more powerful.
On another point, I'm not the biggest fan of the resurrection either. That said, even though Kakashi's death was a great way to go, I was glad that we didn't lose him. Plus, he story isn't finished yet and he will play a vital role later on.
Finally, have you considered the idea to stretch this a little bit more and maybe do an episode per arc? This way you can actually get to more detail about its individual arc. I don't think you really need to force 3 separate arcs in one video, especially when there's so much going on. I mean, Kakazu and Hidan could be a video on its own, then Jiraya vs Pain and Sasuke vs Itachi another video, and finally the Naruto vs Pain as a video on its own.
P.S.: The scene where Naruto falls in Kakashi's shoulder was SO wholesome!!! GOD!! Why do I love this shit so much???

Nagato was the one who inspired Jiraiya to write what the book would be about. Jiraiya named the main character in the book Naruto who would do exactly what Nagato said he was going to do. Nagato used to love the book too. What changed Nagato's mind was that the person who's name was in the book is now standing right in front of him continuing to pursue the dream he once had (as though Jiraiya knew it would be Naruto who would change the world and not Nagato). Not sure if this was mentioned in the Manga but in the Anime Naruto stated if he changed the way he is, then he will no longer be the Naruto in the book and the book will then have a different ending. So he will continue to follow the way Jiraiya wrote the book so that the meaning won't change. Nagato was reminded of what he once lost.

The issue people have lies in the fact that Naruto seemingly forgot all about it for multiple arcs and didn't address it again until near the end of the story.
And I can't even blame Naruto for this...this kind of apathy is so uncharacteristic for him and so obviously just there to make sure the story doesn't accidently defy the generic shonen writing trope (can't allow ships to sail until the very VERY end) that it actively pulls me out of the story, in other words my annoyance with this (and most issues I have with the story in general) is purely meta and directed towards the author.
We all knew that this carrot will dangle in front of us for the rest of the story, but then Kishimoto decided to give us one very tiny bite way too early and then in "correcting his mistake" he took it away and stored it in a drawer for a many years...like we're not even allowed to see the carrot anymore until right before we finally get to have it.
I actually feel bad for Hinata AND Naruto for being cursed to be written like that.

I can totally see how the conclusion didn't work for you. I reread it to see if I felt differently, but I still like it personally. Here's why.
To me, it still makes more sense than Granny Chiyo's sacrifice. Hers is good, but it almost just doesn't make sense as a technique she would have to me? Whereas with Nagato, the Rinnegan is foreshadowed by bringing back Pains to basically break all the rules. Now, you may not like that angle which is honestly fair - I personally read a lot of fiction with disgustingly OP conceptual powers so it doesn't bother me. Regardless, Nagato's ending doesn't feel like a cop out to me because I can't help but think of the world where Nagato never fell to despair. He alone could easily beat most of the Akatsuki, and it's left ambiguous whether he could carry out the Rinne Rebirth without dying if he wasn't exhausted (for Yahiko's sake I'm guessing he didn't know it at the time or something). There's so much good someone like him could do, perhaps averting the Nine Tails attack or saving countless deaths, perhaps bringing the world together... but because he falls to despair the best he can do with godlike power is erase a single of his many mistakes.
He also influences Naruto a fair bit, so I have a lot of Nagato bias. His change is abrupt, but doesn't feel like a heel-turn to me personally because his sharp responses to Naruto during the battle feel like he's *already* questioning his path. If he was sure he was right I don't think he'd blab so much and try to convince the kid. I think he really wants a reason to believe, deep down, right from the start. It's like you said, the world has taught him that peace doesn't exist. I'm sure he feels guilty as a failed child of prophecy, but Naruto proves that even if he went astray, that doesn't mean Jiraiya's ideal is a farce. Last bit of yapping on my part, but idealism that might be lunacy in our world simply isn't in Shonen. Naruto is factually stronger than the remainder of his village, or at least better suited for this fight, and he *is* strong enough to just tank weaker opponent's hatred and figure out a solution in a way no real-world human can. I tend to really buy into those types of premises, hence why I think it works for me.

Naruto could have killed pein. And yeah, I know, cycle of hatred, but realistically he could have killed anyone who would come afterward.
The mass resurrection only happened because Naruto chose a path of peace and kept true to his ninja way that he’s had since zabuza’s death.
So many things are pushing him in the direction of vengeance sasuke took. He had the closest thing to family he had taken from him, his home was destroyed, he has a being inside him literally made of malice and power, the second he truly wanted to hurt someone, and give himself over to that, he could, and when hinata was taken out, he nearly did, and was pulled back from the brink by his dad. But he didn’t, he chose the man who he wanted to be, arguably the most significant decision he makes in the series (or that an ordinary individual could make in their lives), made the decision only he would, and is rewarded with a miracle.

It also started the major ramp up in power level for the series and the significant reduction in the clever use of Jutsus and hand signs.
Oh, it was also around the time when the Sharingan and all the eye-related powers began gaining prominence, which as annoying at best. At worst it actually offered major retcons for the canon of the story. By that I mean the Byakugan is introduced the superior bloodline technique and the Sharingan was derived from that, to somehow the Sharingan being the strongest and the first (just to give even more free power to Sasuke).

Kakashi has always been one of favorites, if not my favorite, anime / manga characters. He initially comes off as the "chill badass" character, but you quickly realize, no, this poor man is just exhausted but is somehow continuing to push himself forward, despite the fact that he emotionally has almost nothing left in the tank. His fights are often the most entertaining in the series and are always written in a way that's true to his character.
Regarding the part about Minato sealing the Nine Tails in Naruto and why that made sense as the choice for Minato to make... it will make more sense later. But for now, that's spoilers. :)
For the part of why he was raised the way he was, that's the classic human condition and how we tend to treat people we're scared of. Naruto's saving the town as a baby was the equivalent of having a nuclear bomb implanted in him instead of having it go off. But now he's the kid walking around like a ticking time bomb -- and most people see him as a threat and he reminds them of all their friends / family that died the last time the Nine Tails attacked. That said... unfortunately I've always felt the one big gap in Naruto's story is why a few of the higher ups more in-the-know didn't do a better job of raising Naruto, youl would think they'd feel like they owed that to Minato. Sure, someone got him an apartment and made sure he had groceries delivered, but there's no good answer as to why so many adults left him devoid of love.
And ooooh boy I knew you were not going to like how the Pain arc ended lol. I agree that the resurrection of Gaara was an example of the trope being done right and the end of the Pain arc is the polar opposite. Naruto is one of my favorite stories of all time... but it absolutely has its flaws. That's okay, though -- it makes the series fitting for its titular character. ;)

I really like your analysis and totally agree about Kakashi, he's a favorite of mine. I feel your last statement so much. Naruto is one of my favorite anime/manga and one I got the deepest into. Unfortunately it does have its flaws and having come back to it years later its a shame how obvious some of the issues are now. But it still has a special place in my heart and I'm really glad people like Merphy are still able to enjoy and appreciate this series for what it offers. Even in an age where it can debated that so many new anime are doing and have done the same thing but better. Naruto was one of the OG big 3. While One Piece is still ongoing and fandom is stronger than ever, and the final arcs of Bleach finally getting anime adaptation that revamped interest in the series, and Naruto might have Boruto as its successor sometimes it feels like people overlook the Naruto series nowadays. I had gotten a lot of "Cool but (insert new anime) is Naruto but better" sentiments from newer anime fans for a while. So its nice to see Merphy coming in fresh and finding greatness in Naruto.

To clarify a few things about Minato. (Minor spoilers)
    - He needed to seal the Nine-Tails in someone from the village, otherwise Konoha would lose its jinchuriki, prompting attacks from other shinobi villages.
    - If he killed the Nine-Tails, it would reincarnate.
    - Only Uzumaki can handle the chakra of the Nine-Tails. Naruto, being half Uzumaki, only had half of it sealed within him.
    - It was Danzo who leaked that Naruto is the jinchuriki. The reasons are convoluted, including sending the message that Konoha still controls Kurama, and also to subvert the trauma of the Nine-Tails incident and shift the blame and hatred to one place. This didn't entirely succeed with the Uchihas, but overall, it worked. However, he didn't leak that Naruto was the son of the Fourth Hokage because Minato was feared and hated by other villages due to slaughtering other shinobi in wars against Konoha. If they knew that Naruto was Minato's son, assassination attempts would be made.

In my mind (a mind that hasn't watched or read Naruto in a few years) Nagato has always been fully aware ot the pain and suffering that he's personally casting on the world. I think he was cull conscious of the atrocity of what he was doing but that in his mind the only way to get to peace was everyone emphatyzing by enduring the same pain. He literally decided to embody the pain that could connect people and bring understanding (thus bringing peace) and force people to cooperate under the threat of mass distruction at the hands of the ten tails, essentially giving every country in the continent nukes to force a state of cold peace.
He never had to go thru a moment of reflection and desperation for the crimes he committed because he lived his whole life well aware of those crimes and kept going because he though it was the right thing to do.
But yeah, the undo button was not good, at the very least he couldn't bring Jiraya back :D

I agree with your take. It’s pretty evident imo he knew and understood what he was doing was causing such pain but had the will to continue to create his version of peace.
I didn’t need a nagato redemption arc personally. Even though people don’t like the resurrection I did and imo it made more sense to go that route. Just because characters don’t stay dead doesn’t mean the impact of the arc and the deaths wasn’t real. Pain did show the village “pain”, it changed them, it changed naruto, it led directly into what happened in the 5 kage summit and then the war. Pain imo did help to create peace both with showing them his pain and in his beliefs in naruto bringing everyone back.

    • @theduelist92
      @theduelist92 Місяць тому +1

@@javiercano9461 The problem is a narrative one and it's the fact that the pain is cut short. Jiraya's death hits hard but the pain lingers for a long time, you grieve for him and you grieve with Naruto. The whole ass village being resurrected is like a grievious wound being completely healed with magic ten minutes later, your suffering was short and there are no lasting consequences.
I would be ok with, say, half the village and most of the important characters being revived, but when every single victim is revived the spectator feels robbed.

    • @javiercano9461
      @javiercano9461 Місяць тому +1

That really doesn’t make sense. The entire arc was grief. Starting from jiraiya until Naruto met with nagato it was grief. How is that not enough? At least for me it was. I felt hate for a character who took so much. I felt grief for characters and a village that meant so much to me. By the end I really didn’t need more. That entire arc was just one gut punch after another, I was emotionally spent. I don’t see the impact of having more compared to the benefit of nagato entrusting his dream to Naruto and atoning for at least a bit of his actions.
Also the entire village wasn’t wiped out. A bunch were evacuated prior and during pains assault and tsunade almost died to save people with katsuyu so this idea that the entire village was just revived is a slap in the face to her efforts. Sure a lot of people died but it wasn’t the entire village.
If you feel robbed then that’s a difference of opinion. To me pain was an emotional roller coaster. Ending it on the highest of notes with Naruto’s will breaking through even after he questioned it and almost gave up was a beautiful ending. It added more weight to his celebration after. The village knew and appreciated what he did for them, not just saving people but embracing the villain to the point that led to their resurrection.

    • @theduelist92

@@javiercano9461 The thing is that it feels bad to have your emotions cheated out of you.
If Nagato had only ressed about half of the people he killed (not the entire village, good point) it would've been best imo but i would've accepted the scenario better if Pain never had the village to raze. A lot of people hate this because it feels like getting robbed of the emotions, it feels like Kishimoto is squeezing the story for maximum shock and grief but also doesn't wanna lose it's main village with most of it's side characters (even tho, considering how relevant many of those side characters end up being, i would've been ok with 3-4 dying in this fight).
Doesn't matter how you do it once you bring resurrection into a story it will either feel like cheap shock and grief or it will used so often (DBZ and One Piece to a lesser extent) to the point death doesn't matter anymore.

To me it was a full circle moment from having all this hate for a character and grief for death to having hope and believing in Naruto. I personally think it would have been a worse turn out without the resurrection but again that’s something we see opposite
