    Purchased my Ruger 556 8500 in May and have fired 1500 rounds through it with no issues.Definitely one of the best off the shelf AR-15’s if you can get your hands on one.

    I bought one of the MPR versions and I think that dollar for dollar it's one of the finest rifles on the market out of the box. 18" barrel and that 452 trigger is a great match for long distance work. I'd love the AR556 pistol. If I find the right deal I'll get one. Ruger seldom disappoints.

      Mine has had a bunch of malfunctions and I have to send it back under the warranty. They fix it for free but they are so backed up it’s going to take about 5 weeks for me to get it back. Pretty pissed to be honest.

      Ericka C it won’t lock back on an empty mag and a few times it did not chamber the next round on a full mag so I’d pull the trigger here it click and think I was out but I’d have plenty left in my mag. I have the original ruger 556 which I have never had an issue with. I called ruger they just told me to send it back to them which I am either doing today or tomorrow so I actually haven’t sent it back yet. I’m using gen 2 Pmags I have like 8 of them and none of them work. I could maybe try different mags but I would like to be use the gen 2 Pmags because I already have several of them.

    Excellent review! I've posted on another UA-cam channel almost the same comment, just trying to get some info/advice, not a harangue. Picked up a new Ruger 556 MPR last week. Took it apart to clean and lube before the range. Couldn't get the bolt back into the carrier but a bolt from another AR of mine inserted without problem. And vice versa the new Ruger bolt inserted into my old AR carrier. Went to the range and fired ~200 rnds from the new Ruger with the old AR bolt. Then fired ~100 rnds from my old AR with the new Ruger bolt. No issues. Took them home cleaned them then tried to insert the new Ruger bolt into the new Ruger carrier, no can do. I'm thinking I need to run some more ammo though both but not sure. BTW, I called Ruger and they stand behind their product, I'm just not read to send my new MPR back to the factory. Sorry for the long winded complaint.

    This is one of the better reviews of the MPR on UA-cam. I am particularly interested in a compare and contrast between this 18" version and the new 16.1" version that just came out late last year. The 16.1" model #8542 is stated to have an "alloy" barrel whereas the 18" barrel is described as 4140 chrome-moly. I have not been able to find any further detail on the difference between these two barrels aside from the length as they do not specify what kind of "alloy" is being used on the 16.1" barrel. Any insight? Thanks!

    that MPR has the nicer trigger (2stage 4.5lb roughly) pretty decent trigger out of the box.
    paired my mpr with a vortex 1-8 lpvo. have got some insanely tight groupings .5moa at 100yards (good for me)… i’m not the best shooter but this thing holds true very well.

    I've got that same one, im half considering a barrel swap and a swap to a gas piston system. Just to SQUEEZE more accuracy out of it.
    I started with a new stock, Geissele g2s trigger, nice scope. But I think the new barrel will help me get where I'm wanting to go with it.

      I have one of these as well. Good guns for the money, and made just down the road here in NC. As far as scopes go, how much magnification (if any) do you want? Maybe a red dot if you are looking at home/close stuff? You more interested in target acquisition, or looking more for magnification?

    • @frank8378
      @frank8378 3 роки тому

    • @robertpagel8951
      @robertpagel8951 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Frank, for home defense and short to medium range a red dot is hard to beat. Target acquisition is fast. The Sig Romeo 5 red dot sits on 2 of my AR's you pick the rifle up and the dot is on and they are durable, reasonably priced at just over $100. Another consideration is a magnifier behind the red dot. With a 36 yard zero i can shoot point blank out to 400 yards with a bullet trajectory of 6 inches. From 36 yards and in just hold 2 inches high after that no thought to hold overs just point and shoot. Good luck and enjoy your Ruger luv mine

    • @maverickgunworks8777
      @maverickgunworks8777  3 роки тому

      You mean you have it apart and you cannot get it back in or when you chamber a round it isn't locking in. If it is the first you should notice on the handle it widens toward the top a bit. Those will just pop in. If you look you will see a place on the track where it widens out to accept the charging handle. You should never have to put absolute force installing that charging handle. If it is not locking in when chambered that could be another issue and would like to see it or know more about where it is catching. Hope this helps plz let me know if you still need more help.
