I love the human magnet that Hugh is….. not a Smartphone in sight….. thank god.
Typical hard working ENGLISH PURE BRITISH MEN with big blue eyes they are. None of these "ain it" boys from down south of the continent.
Smartphones didn't exist when this was first aired
What do you dislike film or video cameras too
The most heart warming viewing ive seen in quite a while! Hugh at the top of his game!
I utterly loved this programme
Brilliant . Could watch these all day. I have the box set somewhere
Me too they helped me through a couple of Sunday hangovers…
Great program and a really nice bloke
This was my favorite show when i was young love hunting and looking round the countryside for free delicious goodies
My type of people and life excellent video thankyou ❤
Hes natural chef. Food artist. Great. 😊😊😊
It's like the slaughtered lamb but in Dorset 😂
His book a cook on the wild side got me interested years ago. When I found myself working in the kitchen tent at a teen camp in Charmouth was so pleased to find the River Cottage cafe up the road in Axminster. The following year for camp I set off from Merseyside at silly oclock just to reach the cafe for breakie.. although a little disappointed with the kippers..think they had been cooked in olive oil...
Did you get touched at river cottage
I’ve been watching river cottage for years I love it
What a brilliant programme loved it when it first came out still love it now
These original RC programmes are the best.
I watched every episode of Hugh's show when I lived in the U.K. I would love to see where he made his own bacon & salt cured the rest of the pig whilst he was doing it.
This right here is what the world need's more of
Superb viewing 👍👍👍
Cant believe this is nearly 25 years ago.
Those men were so happy to see the feasant roasts
This is the 2nd episode that I’ve watched. In both episodes someone suggested that Hugh was a bit of a posh ponce. Well done! Great show & Hugh is a great guy even if his last name is spelled Posh. Love the book too. Making hard cider too.
He went to a university so posh he read philosophy and psychology instead of studying it. Still an icon though, loved river cottage since I was a child
Posh kid trying to be common these people are all the same
@@chrismcbrias4681 i actually prefer people who try to be humble as opposed to those who try to act posh or arrogant. I still thinkHugh is a good dude.
Who TFCs
@@johngraham5948 i do , tough guy.
Been a fan of River cottage Sun stay one
Im loving this
Loved these episodes. Any chance of seeing episodes 6 onwards. Cheers.
Been years since i see this i used to watch it religously.
There's something very British watching HFW
My children named him "His Hairiness the Fearnley Whittingstall."
They called my willy that too
“ eat without delay”😂
I love the way HFW always gets pisse-d with the locals and joins in on every thing going in the community
My favorite episode. It has it all.
The eel is best when smoked on a smokey open fire, not to hot.
They regulate the fire with wood chips and some sprinkled water if needed.
Slowly smoked and cooked in their own fat, white a smoked flavored flesh plucked straight out of the skin.
Aye, John Seymour in his book, "The Fat of the Land" said smoked eel was the fiercest pleasure a person can taste.
Brilliant. 😅😅😅😅
The size of the eels are huge
Not a single TV company would dream of commissioning this series today. Shame😢
Good old days
He is into water sports I hear!
Hugh is well into watersports of the yellow kind aren’t you, we know your dirty predilections!
Great program, and I'm still dreaming of my escape
On our reserves where I live pheasants are on the extermination list we try our best to get rid of them but untold thousands are released by the rich landowners next door
Does eel taste similar to a particular type of fish?
do you skin the ell before smoking.
No
What's an ell?
Eel
i've got a small holding😂
the shire irl
Filmed when diversity was our strength
I like cider though unfortunately it's too acidic for my stomach.
Who asked?
May I ask how old is this video , Thanks
I'm guessing it's about 15 to 20 years old
@@denisbrennan5536 Thank you
Feb 1999👍
What about all that pressed apple ... what happened to it ... piggy sad now 😢
People saying on here,he's a posh ponce sound jealous, he's the type of guy imo who wouldn't have been bothered if he'd been born with a plastic spoon in his mouth instead of a silver one, apart from the plastic one not being environmentally pc lol
He's a ponce
He worked in the kitchen of the Dorchester as a sous chef.
Not an easy job or a well paid one either.
I’ve learned a lot from him and always entertaining
Malcolm seal will catch an Eel ... 3x
Make some new episodes
Tortilla my arse.
Can we see River Cottage in the zombie apocalypse?
Hugh is posh, but the series was great I watch them regularly.
I think Hugh pissed off a few people with his series about free range chickens when he was running down working class people for not paying double for a free range chicken, and his lack of understanding that some people just can’t afford it. He was wealthy from the day he was born, and he showed a real lack of understanding in that series imo.
Womp womp
Talk about a load of crap
@@ColinFreeman-kh9us ok let’s
Dont show us filletin of yhe eel
🥰🥰🥰😁🤗🤗🤗💝💝💝
Sadly the influence of modern britain will have changed this county. 😂
Never lived there it was a TV stage
River cottage is 1 of 4 cottages on the Slape Hall Estate. He rented it whilst looking for his own farm to purchase.Eventually moved his business to a farm in Axminster.
Yes he did live there, you fool
@ it was filmed in it but he didn’t live in it you tool
That is quite possibly the worst 'tortilla' I have ever seen.
Looks like your nans minge
More "fritata" than tortilla.
Not creatures for starter's
copyright mean anything to you ?
Great series but the common eel is now very rare. Please do not catch them.
Not rare
Very common in Dorset rivers
@@martinleonard1992 eels are on the endangered list and are therefore a protected species.
I'm going to catch double the eel now just to spite you
@@GiBiBear Why?
@@brucehart706 cause i am John eel ester6
He's fine if you have something he wants! If not it's a different matter, a wannabe countryman! That he will never be!😢
Fresh water Eels are a protected species.
So are seagulls
No
But Hugh Was rich from the very first episodes excellent television nonetheless
So what
So he paints a very rosy picture But try to live that life if you come from a rough or poor background without Any big week connections Like a TV company to start with and then aristocratic very posh family to boot
@@jamiejudd8018i live a life simular to this, I have 2 allotments, I keep rabbits and poultry for meat and eggs, I go foraging and hunting, make my own pickles, chutneys, vinegar and alcohol, and I'm hardly rich or from a posh background, I grew up in a council estate in Liverpool.
As a matter of fact, I don't think I could afford to live in a city, rent is cheaper here and free food is much easier to come by.
Bet hes tauggt a few peopke how to syrvive from the land tho
