Black Magic Motorsports took the Prowler and placed the 700 cc twin into it and it was called the Howler! In 92 Cat switch the Wildcat’s to the Prowler AWS platform. It was ok, everything changed with the introduction of the ZR series in 93 for the racers, 94 for the rest of us drooling consumers! Love the cats from that era. Keep the content coming.
I picked up a 92 Prowler Special this spring, I have gone through the entire sled this summer and am very excited to ride it this winter. I have many Arctic Cats, but this is also my first Prowler. The special was the racing version, it had a totally different 440 that was based off the 550, it had even more power, FOX shocks with reservoirs, different graphics. The 92 prowler special was also unique because it was the only prowler made in this chassis that didn't have the handlebar mounted gauge and windshield. It had a pod installed on the hood which held the gauge and hood. It was the top 440 racer, the last year before the ZR came out in 93. I am a huge fan on these Arctic Cats in the pre ZR years. There was so much happening at this time with the machines, but also I view this era as peak culture years for snowmobiling and Arctic Cat, the "golden years", if you will. The wildcats, exts, prowlers, JAGS, thundercat was born. Just look at the Arcticwear and the promo videos from this time, what a time to be Arctic Cat. Well done video, thank you for doing this!
I love reading comments like this. Thanks for watching the channel and for taking a minute to comment! Those were some really fun times when those sleds were new. I love Arctic Wear Items as well.
I owned a new 91 prowler when i was about 13-14 maybe. It was a ok sled engine was very fast for a 440. Biggest problem with prowler looking back knowing what I know now suspension was just to soft. Actually traded my prowler for a 89 500 indy what a machine that was. Rode Polaris after that till 2003 bought my first F7 been back on cat ever since.
Such a mean looking sled. I had the 93 wildcat with the flipfront hood. A Swedish dealer back in the day made it a prototype on arctics behalf for scandinavian terrain and it had a 159" cheetah(i think) skid and tunnel extension. Regret selling it. I have some pictures of it tough
I had a 90 Prowler. I went up a small hill to the top, then let it go backwards half way down, then stopped and went black up to the top. It was a phenomenal sled for it's time!
My Dad and I had yamaha's at that time but wanted more power, better cooling and better suspension. Shortly after the prowler the came out with the El Tigre EXT Special with 550 liquid and fox gas shocks. We sno checked that year and rode AC for many years after.
I was buying new Cats pretty much every year in the late 80’s through the mid 90’s. I always felt that the prowler based sleds were a step backwards from the last AFS sleds and the situation didn’t correct itself until the introduction of the limited build 93 ZR 580.
Dad bought a 90, liked it, so he bought a 91. The 36s made a nice improvement. Couple years later we got a 93 580 ZR and it never worked right. Good in the cold, but if it warmed up it was a dog.
My buddy bought a new Prowler . W 0:10 as never a fan of the windshield set up. I bought a new 93 580Z. It had a conventional windshield. Those aluminum spindles were prone to breaking. Thats why the ZRs came out with steel spindles.
The look like the 93 jag z440 . I had the air cooled jag z440 it was an ok sled and the last sled I had was the 95zr 580 efi but it had the battery and that sled was real touchy on the computer it had .
My first sled was a72 panther 292 then a 77 eltigre 500 fast sled 88 eltigre 96 zr580 96 t-cat 900 awesome smooth triple 02 zr 800 06 zl600 06f7 06crossfire 600 06 660 4 stroke hopefully upgrade in a little while cats American made
I had a '91 Pantera which is nothing more than a two-up Prowler with electric start, reverse, saddle bags, and mirrors. It worked well and kept up with my buddies on their trailing arm Polaris'. Had just over 10,000 miles on it when I sold it. Never had the engine apart!

1st Arctic Cat I ever rode was a prowler. Snappy machines. Would have liked to try out the extended track version.

I appreciate the comment! It is amazing to see how those sleds performed back then.

Did it come with flames on the hood? Those were cool looking

What was you’re opinion of the Thundercat when it first came out? I bet that was awesome when Arctic Cat unveiled that monster!

The 91+ 440 also got updated cylinders and exhaust pipe.
Great stuff!!

Great video! Do a story on the old Trail Cat. That would be interesting.
If I can find one I will definitely do a story on it.
Keep em coming, love old school Arctic cats

Awesome video 💯💯💯
When snow and trails were available in my county. In today's world, 2-3 hours of truck and trailer is required.
It's a shame the snowmobiling world has changed so much.

Wow, you had a lot of old cats! Thanks for the comment
Had a 1991 prowler and it would beat the skidoo formula plus and I believe they were a 521 cc
I've never owned a cat. I dont even like cat. But I like these viseos man theyre cool to watch
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the comments.
Not one of the big popular sleds of the time But was always a few at a rally
