@@lukei6255 true, but most people have LED light bulbs now. Putting a lamp on for a couple of extra hours will cost a lot less than putting heating on for the same amount of time.
@@purplephoenix4969 Yeah and usually you shut your curtains three or four hours sooner in winter anyways as well as lighting being cheaper like you said. 👍👍👍
You should not do that. Unless you have good knowlage about your houses ventilation.. which i guess its safe to assume that you dont if you walk around with a candle and stop every place with a draft. If you think the draft is too big or there is a place where you have an obvious amount of over-flowing air, or you just want to stop the draft. Then you might wanna check that with a educated consultant. That is what i do for a living, it is very good to look at thermal protection vs. thermal storage, where you want a good balance, and if you just clogg up the entire houses ventilation you will soon have problems with condensation, mould, damaged walls, lingering odours etc.. The absolute majority of buildings are not brand new, and still today this is a very common form of ventilation althought well funded new houses (and appartments ofc) will not use this ventilation. But the gaps under the doors are placed there intentionally, this is so that basically your ventilation works by the air in the building getting warm and less dense/expanding. It will raise upwards in the building and as it does, the volume that it displaces is filled with new air that basically "automatically sucked" in through these gaps at the bottoms. (english is not my native language so sorry about any spelling or gramatical errors :)
We love to wear scarfs alot in my family. People wouldn't believe how much warmer their whole body would be keeping those 2 main blood vessels covered. It's amazing... In the home and outside.
That is the most subtle mic drop moment of the ending of a UA-cam video I’ve ever seen. A DIY draft stopper with actual stuff I always have at my house. Wow
Would love it if you could do a 2022 version due to the high energy costs everyone will be experiencing this winter. People will be frugal with their electricity usage this year. Thanks.
Yes. I will have to say that a bug in a rug is most likely very snug. AND that's why vacuum cleaners need stronger suction these days because those bugs can really hang in there! KEEP COZY!
I live in a place that is regularly -30 between December and March. I agree with all of these things. Also, very warm socks and tea is massively important. I also hang up a sweater next to my bed for waking in the night as I turn the heat down to 15 overnight (I find that very cool)
We use electric oil radiators ~ they make her home so warm that we have to turn the air conditioning on at the same time! Plus our animals can touch it and it doesn't burn them ~ I put my clothes on them ~ I get toasty and warm ~ I've even had plastic bags on them by accident and they haven't burnt! One of the best electric heaters I've ever known! Plus our electric bill is a lot cheaper! A lot cheaper than those space heaters!
Yes honey!!!!🤗 I just did the layer thing last night and I already said I'm going to do the two heating blankets for the winter months!!! If I'm feeling creative I may try some of the other hacks later thanks so much!
New subscriber and retired teacher here! I can’t believe you said transpiration!!! I hope all my former students thought of me, lol!!! Your dog is adorable!! Love the great tips and tricks! 💜
In reference to the space heater make sure to buy one that heats the size of your room correctly. If your room is 10 by 20 don't get one that heats 10 by 10, the smaller one is cheaper but it will run twice as long to try to heat a larger room and in the long run cost you more
Great Video, Loved all your ideas. If I could suggest one thing, it would be to stuff the wrapping paper rolls with newspaper. This will stop ALL drafts and any cold from completely creeping in. Hope that helps.
And then staple fabric around two of them parallel to the other, with a space in between the width of the door thickness. Then Velcro that sucker into place so it moves with the door.
Idk if it's different but in the US, but in the UK it's sooooo expensive to use electric heating like space heaters and electric blankets. If you've got gas central heating you're probs better off using the thermostat to kick the heating up but adjust the radiators so rooms you don't use as often down low and keeping doors closed between rooms. Also making sure the thermostat is in a decent position in the house so it shuts the heater off appropriately.
I wear a hat inside in the evenings, I use two terracotta pots with candles underneath to keep warm (I am child and pet free). I do use hotwater bottles and a sleeping bag in my bed. I use solar camping lanterns inside the house and motion sensor lights. You can use bubble wrap for windows. Also you can get portable solar generators though they are a bit expensive at the moment. You can also get portable candle lanterns that also heat the room and are much safer. It is ok to wear socks in bed. I have a shagpile carpet and it really helps keep the room warm, a cosy floor is nice
Space heaters are pretty expensive to run. Love your doggie. Very pretty. I like the makeshift draft stoppers. I've seen them made with pool noodles but never thought of using wrapping paper tubes. Should end up with lots of empty ones this time of year.
Yeah, space heater had me stop and wonder if I should bother watching the rest. Unless your whole-home heat is electric, a space heater is likely bad news.
If you put a box fan in front or behind a heater that will keep the room faster and more efficiently.. if you have a small heater in your room is not heating up quickly and you have a spare box fan around, try it out .it will work
Another way to help with humidity - drying your clothes on a drying rack. You can tumble them on the air setting for a few minutes after so they feel softer. This can also save quite a bit on electricity.
Bethany Lade I dry most of the thick clothes (jeans, jumpers, tracksuit bottoms etc) on the radiators, saves a lot on electric bills from not using the tumble dryer as much. But all that damp air needs to go somewhere, it usually finds the coldest wall or window so always make sure there's a window open to let the damp escape or you could end up with mould growth from all that condensation.
We’ve reached to the minus in the temperature here in Canada at night (even tho we live in Canada not surprising) it would go back to the warming ness in the middle of the day💀 my room has thin walls too!
I live in the windiest country in Europe.. according to the internet (Scotland) this is extremely helpful 👌 what's sun? 😂 We are born wearing layers here 😂the draught stoppers are great 👌
My jaw dropped at the DIY draft stopper! I just bought something like that and the cheap one cost me $5 (about $8ish American) & it slides around like crazy!! I don't wear pantyhose but with still be doing this as it will be cheaper and work better!
Honey, what you just wore for winter, is what i wear in spring! I wear an undershirt with straps, then a high neck fitting wool shirt, then whatever is the "main" presentable also wool shirt.. Sometimes i end up wearing a robe above all that and wandering like a lost blancket 😂
Don't heat rooms you're not using or use very little by closing vents or covering vents. Using an electric stove uses a LOT of power wattage so maybe a crock pot with water for humidity would save on electric usage or even getting a humidifier or oil dispenser (one that uses cheap candles instead of electricity. Good video !
Not heating rooms can be problematic because it draws moisture to the walls and stuff and grows black mould. I shut off the heating at night at my rental place (an old house that has not been renovated) to save $$ and I woke up to condensation on all the large windows. Even though i wiped them off the windows, there was still moisture in the walls that grew black mould :((
I wouldn't recommend sealing the gap underneath your interior door's. They're there for ventilation purposes. Closing that gap can have a negative effect on your home ventilation depending on how your home is designed.
My bedroom is very cold because my mom doesn't want to use the heater. When she does use the heater she turns it all the way up to 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit. One time it was at 90 degrees and it was so hot. When she does this I have to open the window in my bedroom a little to counterbalance the heat from the heater. Its either 90 degrees in the house or just so cold it's probably 60-70 degrees (at least in my room). I can't go outside because my mom is threatening to kick me out. I'm looking for a job so I can leave asap.
you need quarter round on your trim , it is clear you once had carpet and switched to much worse floating floor . adding quarter round to the massive gap you have under your trim will help a lot with drafts.
Keeping pooch warm over everyone else is most important and you covered it. If you have other heating means and using electricity for any part of it, the electric will be the most expensive in most areas. Learned that the hard way when college age kids used an electric heater to supplement one room instead of asking to turn up the gas heat. The electric bill was the highest ever.
Try big bubble wrap on windows. Helps out so much. Easy installation. Just spray bubble side and put it on the windows. Sun still gets in. Oh and I do have shades and always put up warm drapes panels on the windows for extra night time warmth. Cuts the heat bill down
Just FYI, while the draft stopper seems great, it's really hurting your HVAC system. The gap under your interior doors are by design, not mistake. Your whole house HVAC system needs to breath to be efficient. BTW your other ideas are awesome.
They are quite cheaper than gas when I moved into my house at the beginning of winter last year I had to replace gas lines and therefore i went an entire month running on just space heaters it was quite cheap compared to my gas bill we're talking like $75 savings at least the oil ones are cheaper and better at heating a room than the fan ones but I was running 3 of all different kinds

In addition to closing the blinds having some thick curtains to close really helps keep the heat in too
Elya Hartley double glazing is better. Remember if you draw your curtains it will get dark and you will need to use the light = electricity...
Elya Hartley Well if you got old blankets your not gonna use anymore you can use those for heavy curtains as well.
