This is ONE OF THE BEST videos I’ve watched about homeschooling in the middle grades/high school years!!!! I have two middle school students who I have taking one high school level class right now. Time management is the skill I see they need to develop and improve in (however, they have time to develop this skill over the next 6 years). Thank you for confirming what I instinctively knew was best for my students! Moving at each child’s pace is a blessing that I don’t take lightly

Interesting... thank you! My dd has ADHD. It would be beyond surprised if she were ready to skip middle school level academic work and hop right into high school level. But the idea (and permission ; ) ) to go light on academic extras and focus more on life skills sounds like something I could really see her benefiting from! I've never heard anyone suggest this! I will be stowin' this away for the future!

Lisa and mandi on the road But if your child is ready for high school level work, have them start working toward high school credits. Wouldn’t that still work? You’d have work to show but it would also be earning your child high school credit. I don’t know what state you’re in so I can’t speak to the laws there. But students should be able to do work above their grade level. And you’d just keep records for their transcript.

The school bureaucracy is the biggest obstacle. I am about to attempt placing my son in grade 9 skipping grades 7 and 8, but I have a very little hope. With him we are already studying math for the high school (grades 11-12) and he does not have any problems whatsoever. I definitely see a potential. However, when I contact the high school authorities, they will tell me that according to their policies, they will be able to place my son in their school only if sir James Madison personally approves this placement. With a big friendly smile they will tell me that they sincerely want to help and they recommend me contacting his secretary about an appointment. It is frustrating when ridiculous rules and policies totally override a commonsense.

This is interesting. My son will be 5 in October and even though he'll be in kindergarten he'll be doing 1st grade level work. It never occurred to me that he might skip a middle school. I think he might need a year to work on "himself" as he hits puberty though to be honest.
... and I don't really know how to use a planner effectively so I guess I'm gonna have to figure that out. I just kind of assumed 2 hours of homework for every hour in class and it worked out. There was not much time for anything else though.

If I skip grades with homeschooling, when I go back to public school will they put me back in the grade I left in?

They might do that. Or they might give a placement test to determine grade level.
