One reason I mindfully declutter is to reduce the amount of stuff that my family would have to deal with if something were to happen to me. I have done death cleaning twice, and I want to spare my family the angst of deciding what to do with my stuff.
I have been away from home most of my life ,and the same exact thought of my family having to decide what to keep and what to discard/give away if anything ever happens to me ,keeps me motivated to be minimal and organized.
when you move, it is much easier. in case of a fire, you can more easily run out of the house. and you have less stress about home invasion/theft because you have very few possessions. same with natural disasters. you have far less worries about losing valuable items.
Wow! I never thought I would see a post like this. When I declutter I always think about how unfair it would be for my loved one to have to go over my stuff. I have been in the process of becoming a minimalist for about 10 years and still have a long way to go. This is a process that lasts a lifetime as we continue learn every day
C.J. Valentine wow, I thought the same thing! I work in a retirement community and I get overwhelmed when I have to collect bins full of trash when a resident passes. So much waste going to landfills 😔 I try to save what I can but it’s hard because I hate clutter.
Bro! I do the same thing!! I've decluttered in every area of my life down to the things I wanted to keep but find myself doing what you do! Getting up and looking around the room, looking in my cupboards, analyzing my spaces and looking for things and analyzing even when I know what's left is what in want to keep. I'm also constantly clearing emails and decluttering and looking to clear things and you end up wasting lots of time! Which takes away what you were trying to achieve with Minimalism in the first place!
I feel the same on making decluttering as my procrastination method, because whenever I have more important things to do I'll use organizing my stuff and deleting unwanted files as a means of productivity rather than doing what I actually need to do, but on the bright side, future me has a clearer and more organize surroundings afterwards
I started to declutter because I never felt satisfied with my possessions and was always wanting more. Taking a moment to be intentional about what I keep in my life has helped me to slow down and appreciate the things I have. Loved the FMA reference btw!
I did the declutter game in February and then continued into March until I realized I was thinking more about keeping up with the game rather than spending the mental energy and mindfulness to evaluate my possessions. Stopped immediately!
I was just decluttering a week ago and it’s true I do procrastinate and instead of doing my homework I choose to do random chores around the house and in my room. I felt that I was doing good by my part when removing items I felt had no use but never realized that I was possibly over doing it. One reason I do declutter is to decide what I really want to keep and what’s actually important for me
I'm proud of you and your channel growing faster and faster. I remember the beginnings :) My "me time" is always watching your videos. Great video! I have become obsessed with decluttering, but it is still okay for now. Greetings from Croatia!
Thanks for the kind words Marija, couldn't have done it without every single support from you guys! Hope you can continue to be mindful and intentional!
This is EXACTLY everything I needed to hear!!! Thank you SO much for all of your videos.. it's so hard for me to put my feelings in words and it's like you just put it all in your videos without me having to ask. 🙏🧠
Loved that FMA reference, I became a minimalist because I lost all sense of purpose in life. Decluttering all the things that belonged to my past selves, and fantasize selves to heal (literally, I am chronically ill) and find a new purpose, or not find any that is ok with me now. I come from a place where a lot of expectations were placed upon me and what I was supposed to become. None of my ambitions was really my own.
This was such a good video! I've been at war with myself if I should declutter more or less and if it is becoming more of an addiction. My decluttering comes from trying to keep a tidy home. I feel like I'm always cleaning I can rest in a messy space.
When I moved to my new place I brought just the "basics" with me, but even then I've been gradually getting rid of some things. The more baren/clean the house looks, the easier it is to maintain and I do feel happy when I declutter another object. (Similar in a way to the opposite end of the spectrum of when people go shopping to relax?)
thank you for the video. last few months sometimes i felt the urge to declutter, though i didn't really need to. this video like...allowed me to stop where i am and enjoy it!
I just have to comment and applaude you! I have watched all of your minimalism videos and they have siriously helped my minimalism journey and this video came on the perfect time! I just finnished my 30 day minimalism challenge and felt the urge to keep on going even though I need the stuff I am thinking about decluttering it. So thankyou and keep making vidoes, about minimalism, decluttering and also on other topics you care about :)
It makes me immensely happy seeing how your channel is growing day by day. Your contents have always resonated with me in many levels. Thank you for this another dope video. Keep growing always. 😊
This was good to watch...I realize the obsessive nature of decluttering and often it's my 'go to'. The reason ultimately though for me is aesthetics as well as being able to have a clear mind. (I've never stopped to think about that before...so, thank you!)
Mine started when we had to clean out my parents house. It was sooo difficult. What to keep...throw away...donate.I still have my father's accordion just because of the paralysis of analysis on what to do with it.This video was so good in how relatable it affects the thinking process.Literally exhausted from the whole experience of this particular clean out.Add in an Ebay account and all the work to unload stuff.I can now understand why some families just pull up a dumpster ,fill it in a day, call a realtor and never look back.
Your videos are so well written and address points that I don't think other people have covered. I also love the edit you did with the pen and shopping bag! So smooth and seamless 😍
I also found myself becoming obsessed with decluttering and procrastinating by going around my room to find things to get rid of... Thanks for the video, it really helped! Love the fullmetal alchemist reference btw 👌
Hi, I really enjoy your videos :) I like to declutter because I find it very liberating, it makes me feel lighter and allows me to focus on the things I like and appreciate the most. I also think that the stuff I decide to keep can reflect who I am right now, what I need in life and help me to get to know myself more and more.
I’m in the middle of a de cluttering process with the desire to live a minimalist lifestyle and wow you really gave me something to think about. I never thought about minimalism in this way. Thank you!
Very insightful video, thank you! I have been obsessed for a period with decluttering. It was compulsive, too much. I have not thrown anything valuable or that I have regret later but I was around the house to try to find something to declutter. Then I have found a balance inside me and a strategy. In other words I have done the journey you have described. Happy it is not so uncommon.
I found it very interesting the fact that decluttering give people power. I think during this time I am in the need of accomplishing some tasks and make my life change and as I am “stuck”, I sometimes wake up at time to de lutter because I have so many things I don’t use and I get obsessed with having in in my closet 😅 I think my possessions are linked with my emotions as well and I call into question a lot of things lately. Thank you for your videos ! I love your channel !🇫🇷🍷
You are doing everything right. If you accumulate objects, people and projects. And wrong. If you don’t accumulate. And rightly so, if you maintain control over yourself. And wrong if you lose.
Thanks for the really great content here even though I am new to this channel. I am on my way to be a minimalist and I see decluttering as a way to understand myself better. It can get a little obsessive sometimes to the extent of annoying my family. And yes, I truly agree to help declutter for someone if they AGREED to it.
Your videos are always so peaceful for me and they soothe my soul and mind. I am mostly decluttering as therapy and hobby, but I also moderate it since it is truly easy to "fall" into the decluttering abyss. It is just a pity I am not already able to live on my own, so I can´t declutter everything that I wish to from my room etc.
This has been very informative! !!!! Awesome video! !!!! Really needed this because I have been on a minimalist journey but some of your points , I have been struggling with! !!!
Hey another great video!! Every single time you come out with a video it brightens my life and helps me excel. I know this kind of goes against minimalism but I believe that a fountain pen my be very ncie in your life. I see your love for worn things and wabi sabi so I believe a brass pen will be the best thing for you, if i had to recommend one it would be a lilliput kaweco ( not sure if that is spelt correctly) but even though it is adding things into your life right now only having ne pen and an ink will clear up your life of stationary for a lifetime.
I am waiting for every day in the week to turn tuesday, so I can see a new motivational video from you! I love your style and the way you're presenting your way of handling things as a becoming minimalist. Also your bee tattoo ist really nice, had to get that off my chest :) I hope you have a great day 😊
Wow!! A guy talking about minimalism. SUBSCRIBED! I think you are a lovely articulate young man. I am slightly obsessed with decluttering. I could be working at my laptop and then suddenly have the urge to declutter a drawer or a shelf! It definitely is a continuous journey, I don't think there is a destination, its more about feeling comfortable along the way for me. I cannot relax with clutter or excess stuff. I do find it difficult getting rid of some items, particularly if I have had them for perhaps 20 years, even if I don't use them. I feel like I have looked after them for 20 yrs, what right do I have to suddenly trash them? I also feel each unused thing I have in my space is like a child. My possessions are like children. I am attached sentimentally to everything but I feel overwhelmed and over run! Like my flat is full of hundreds of unruly children that I just can't look after!!! I don't like the responsibility of having all these things. It causes stress. I have been decluttering for about 4 years now. Some friends think I have gone too far but to me I still have too much stuff that I need to make decisions on, and that's the difficult part. Making the final decision to keep or let go. My flat does look quite minimal and tidy, but that is only because I am a master at hiding things away. I love this video, and I will now binge on all your others. Its so refreshing to hear another guy talk about minimalism instead of a 20yr old American white middle class girl xx
I do find myself walking around opening closets and drawers to see if there is anything I can declutter, but I have only decluttered things I don’t WANT, LOVE or NEED, but what I have found out is that some things I think I want or need can change in time, then I have no problem decluttering I can see how this can become just as addictive to some people as shopping can be, this is such a great video with great content
I declutter because having more open space in my living areas does give me more mental freedom and creativity. I also enjoy knowing that I am always capable of picking up and moving myself wherever I want to, because I can carry everything I own without assistance. I am not ready for extreme minimalism or backpack lifestyle, but I am definitely aware that there is more "stuff" in my life that no longer serves a purpose, so I am working on identifying them and letting them go. Great video!
Also if you have just one room try to get a wardrobe or wall paravan to split the bed sleeping part from working part. Your subconsious will make and push you to be more productive while in desk area :)
I've decluttered and feel good about my space and how easy it makes housework. I'm going to get some baby houseplants when lockdown is over and grow them for a hobby and give them to my children if I get sick of them. At least the plants are something that's easy to give away
Many reasons for decluttering I have from moving to smaller home to preparation for getting older, being able to lift and deal with things, dealing with my parents things when it was time, to thinking would my young adult children want these where would they put them, holding onto our precious items......
loved this video! I have 2 dictionaries I know I should let go of, but I just can't for no reason... so I fell like decluttering other stuff, maybe to excuse keeping them, idk... I also had a urge to give away nail polishes (had too many...), but many are pricy and I'll use them soon, so I gave the ones I knew I won't use to a friend, and decided to give more away if I notice they're going bad.
Correct.... something like raincoat that I use only in monsoon, but this time I didn't due to lockdown and I still retained it coz I don't want to spend again. But if next year I purchase another one in case, I'll let go off this one. 😁😁👍👍
Happy with every video you create and wish you and your channel only growth and success! Are you planning to film any videos on storage/organization in the future? The thing is..I am a big fan of hoodies but they always take so much space
I had 498 tabs open in my iPad and something accidentally deleted them. I even tried restoring it from backup but they were still gone. Then I thought, “oh well”.
I am guilty of decluttering just for the sake of declutter. Thank you for bringing attention to this compulsive behavior in a mindful way. One of the reasons I love your channel is because you don’t do things just for the sake of views. Also your sense of humor! 😁
I did a Konmari thing when I bought a house--got rid of a storage unit and a lot of unnecessary stuff. But I'm glad I didn't take it too far. I'm still a maximalist who comes from a huge family of refugees. We kept everything--reused, repurposed, recycled, handed down, handed up. In this Covid moment, I have found so many useful things to address my new condition: seeds, tools, sandpaper, paints, glass jars. I found a bicycle that is now my major form of exercise, relaxation, mobility. It is also my therapy. I even found a stash of N95 masks. The were used once for renovations so workers would not get exposed to dust particles, so they are not donate-able to hospitals. But it was a joy to discover them, now. And they are in my hall entryway, should I need to go to zones of high contamination...like a hospital...which is what I ended up doing late one night to pick up a time-sensitive prescription that never got processed by mail!
You know what broke me from this? Packing bags, sheltering in place with parents to minimize mom's risk as I care for her during shut in time. Priorities shifted, watching different style of UA-cam videos, got extra food on board for this always at home time without a second thought, and appreciating what I have here plus what I know is at home in my room. I'm looking forward to going back to my own home, I might consider rearranging but probably not because i want to live verses organize/be distracted with items.
Thanks. I think I declutter/get rid of things so I can leave my family less to discard if I pass away. In terms of why I do it for myself is to have more space and be aware of what I am living with. I live in a motorhome where real estate is at a premium. It gets tight sometimes. I just plain feel good when I see things go out too. I definitely toss what I can when I know I don't need it anymore or won't need it in the future. I also like to feel that certain something that comes along when I see my footprint get and stay smaller from others around me. It also helps keep everything tidy, which feels better.
@@isaultra3405 That's a good desire. You should rent one for a while before buying so you can understand how to live in one before committing to it. There are just things you learn by doing it as opposed to seeing videos.
Have you tried the capsule wardrobe? It can be easier to manage your wardrobe if everything off-season is packed away out of sight. Then you can be minimal for the season you’re in.
I live in a four-seasons area too. All you really need is a heavy coat, a medium-weight jacket, and a light jacket/sweater. One winter scarf, one pair of winter gloves, one winter hat. One wide-brimmed summer hat. One pair of each- snow boots, rain boots, sneakers, sandals, dress shoes, slippers (and house/yard shoes if you practice that, I do). The rest is pants/skirts and shirts, the style of which is personal preference. I use 10 tshirts, five dress shirts, three dresses, three skirts, two jeans, four leggings, two pj pants, one shorts. And Work uniforms if you were one. And of course, socks and underclothes. If you’re like me and hate clutter, you’ll avoid clothes that require slips and camisoles. Boom there’s your four-season capsule wardrobe 👍🏼
i declutter for so many reasons. Heres some: 1. I need more space since I always feel stuffy in my room & dont have enough room for the other things 2. My room is always messy however i organise it bcs of too much stuffs 3. (digital minimalism) I need my mental health back bcs i envy lots of ppl way too many times. 4. (digital minimalism) I need to stop comparing myself 5. (digital minimalism) I don't want to feel betrayed just bcs my friend didnt invite me to their birthday parties, even if they invite me i would say no so there is actually no point to feel betrayed 6. I dont want to waste lots of my time just to clean my room 7. related with number 6, if cleaning my room takes a lot of time, i'll be lazy all the time and i dont want that 8. it'll be easier if i have to move out/go out for such a long time 9. it'll be easier for me to know my priorities and focus on my priorities 10. I can do so much more things with my room wow that was a lot, but yea i still live like how i used to be without all the negatives side. I still have my friends beside me, my family and all. I only keep ppl who actually means a lot to me, its just the same with my stuffs.
I’m a minimalist, but I realized recently that I have an addiction to decluttering. I’ve been throwing everything away since I was 3, hahaha. Even things I like, I’d I feel I have too many or they don’t have a proper place to be tucked away. But I like it. It’s others that do not.
It makes so much sense that what once was a benign task could easily become a compulsion 🤔 I'm lucky that as well as appreciating a minimalist outlook I also have a thrifty side that wouldn't want to throw anything out that could come in handy. We originally had to declutter our 2 bedroom house to move to another country. We now rent a furnished 1.5 bedroom apartment and all our worldly belongings will fit into our luggage 😅 It's been a long road but I've slowly learned that having less is so much easier than owning a lot.
The pandemic has gotten me to think about all the stuff I have. I have been decluttering but now I feel that I must get down to what would be manageable if I had to move quickly.
When I have important to do's, I tend to declutter. This makes me feel good, I can breathe better and be more productive. It's always those things that I couldn't get rid of before ("just in case") which make me crazy keeping them, and afterwards I feel more free. I know it's procrastination, but also in the end it forms a way to my goals, every single decluttered thing :D
Also one of the best things I’ve done digitally was downgrade my phone and phone plan and create a new email that is for contacting people ONLY. No using it to sign up for things. And I deleted my old emails off of my gmail app
I admit: I do it for the high. Everything I get rid of makes me feel more and more light and free and just.... good! Free! I really associate that feeling with freedom.
My three reasons for minimising my possessions are: I want to move & travel, I want to reduce my anxiety & I don’t want to burden others with what I would leave behind
Good topic, I've found that declutering is a terrible mindset...because we are what we focus upon, if declutering becomes your modus operandi, just like smoking or anything else not essencial that you give too much Room in your life, than you can't focus on the good stuff. I love your thoughts on being a false idea of Control and a way of procrastinating...I'm not against declutering, I do get rid of excess etc but like you I live work and eat in a small space, if I focus too much on declutering and having a space that "supports" me as they say, ironically I end up stressed and without that said supporting space because everything seems too much. I truly believe we can be happy anywhere even with the clutter. Not saying it's good to live with clutter, just saying is a good life exercise to be happy with how things are. Thanks for the reminder!
@@CKSPACE great idea for topics! time management and a bit about your private life, do you have a girlfriend? how is she handling with your minimalism?
I think my decluttering has become obsessive. It’s like literally all I think about. And I can’t stand color, even a banana on the counter stresses me out lol. I really don’t know how to turn it off. My 3 year old has a lot of colourful toys and I just want to declutter them all and just have wooden muted ones. It’s taking over my life basically
I like decluttering cos it makes me sad knowing I have so many things that I like but it's not possible for me to use so many of them to the point it makes sense (for example I had over 80 dresses and I wore all of them but most of them just once or twice) and jet so many people are not fortunate to have even the essentials...so now I keep the things that that are essential to me and give away the rest to someone who could have better use of it and it makes my cherish things that I own even more cos those are the thing that actually make my life better in oppose to having things for "why not one more" reason...
I am having such a hard time deciding what is enough. Something a simple as my baseball hats that I wear all the time. At one point, I had over 100 hats... I have given away all but 10 of the hats.... That was just a made up limit.. Is 10 too many? Or should I have kept 20? Or should I only have 1? I find myself torturing myself over how many hats to keep. I look at them daily, and wrestle over keeping them or getting rid of them. I do this with many things.... How much is enough????
One reason I mindfully declutter is to reduce the amount of stuff that my family would have to deal with if something were to happen to me. I have done death cleaning twice, and I want to spare my family the angst of deciding what to do with my stuff.
"The living should not be troubled for the sake of the dead"
I have been away from home most of my life ,and the same exact thought of my family having to decide what to keep and what to discard/give away if anything ever happens to me ,keeps me motivated to be minimal and organized.

The best phrase was "We Remove Stuff in order to find Freedom". Applies to people as well. :)
When I'm bored, I always look around my room and it's like my mind is telling me, to remove more out of my life

I really like your videos :) Been subscribed for a few weeks. Great valuable content!
Welcome! I'm so glad that it reached you. Thanks for support Nailia!🙏
Too much of anything can be bad, finding the balance is my goal.
Thanks for the nice comment! I'm so glad that they makes you feel this way.
I love your approach minimalism!!!!!!!
I love this video!!! I can totally relate ☺️
Also your bee tattoo ist really nice, had to get that off my chest :)
I hope you have a great day 😊
Thanks for the support Vanessa! I'm so glad that my videos can bring you value. That means a lot to me. 🙏
Appreciate the nice words!
All your vids about minimalism inspired me a lot. Keep it up 🔥 Great content.
You're Awesome man !!
Thanks Dev!
I’m a Fullmetal Alchemisty big fan and I loved You quot It.
Full Metal Alchemist
I do find myself walking around opening closets and drawers to see if there is anything I can declutter, but I have only decluttered things I don’t WANT, LOVE or NEED, but what I have found out is that some things I think I want or need can change in time, then I have no problem decluttering
I can see how this can become just as addictive to some people as shopping can be, this is such a great video with great content
the law of equivalent exchange😂, amazing video
😂 Glad that you liked it!
Thanks Lewis!
I found escape in minimalism and now am on the border of OCD, but we are gonna be alright!
I feel like there is a middle ground between hoarding and compulsive decluttering. 😂
loved this video!
Thanks for the nice comment and suggestion!
Shall see how I can work on that! 🙏
First video of yours I’m watching and I just suscribed. I love your editing, the aesthetics and of course your moustache haha ❤️
This is a really good video.
you inspire me so much, thank you
I had 498 tabs open in my iPad and something accidentally deleted them.
Finding balance is the goal. I'm glad that this can help! Thanks for the nice comment!
I'm looking forward to going back to my own home, I might consider rearranging but probably not because i want to live verses organize/be distracted with items.
great video. keep it up!
I definitely do this but have slowed down. I’ve realized that I own very little. It’s just my. Apartment that is so small so my home looks cluttered
Same here.
One of my goals is living in a stealth camper van, at least part time. My wish makes me more aware of what I need and want in my life :)
@@isaultra3405 That's a good desire. You should rent one for a while before buying so you can understand how to live in one before committing to it. There are just things you learn by doing it as opposed to seeing videos.
@@autumngreenleaf3390 i know, I've already planned to do so ;)
Honestly, its hard to have 4 seasons! At the end of the season, things and clothing are starting to pile up! Its hard to declutter 😭
Have you tried the capsule wardrobe? It can be easier to manage your wardrobe if everything off-season is packed away out of sight. Then you can be minimal for the season you’re in.
I never tried that. I've seen a couple of videos about that but the thing is I don't where to start.
@@hannahkamos thank you for this! I really hate clutter! And I just realized that I have a lot of tshirts and I dont know why!! Thanks again!
i declutter for so many reasons. Heres some:
1. I need more space since I always feel stuffy in my room & dont have enough room for the other things
2. My room is always messy however i organise it bcs of too much stuffs
3. (digital minimalism) I need my mental health back bcs i envy lots of ppl way too many times.
4. (digital minimalism) I need to stop comparing myself
5. (digital minimalism) I don't want to feel betrayed just bcs my friend didnt invite me to their birthday parties, even if they invite me i would say no so there is actually no point to feel betrayed
6. I dont want to waste lots of my time just to clean my room
7. related with number 6, if cleaning my room takes a lot of time, i'll be lazy all the time and i dont want that
8. it'll be easier if i have to move out/go out for such a long time
9. it'll be easier for me to know my priorities and focus on my priorities
10. I can do so much more things with my room
wow that was a lot, but yea i still live like how i used to be without all the negatives side.
Great video!
Thanks for sharing:)🌺
i’m crying right now because i realized how bad my ocd has become and there is little i can do about it
I admit: I do it for the high.
Finding balance between keeping and decluttering is my goal. Appreciate it! 🙏
So proud of my boy CK! I will always be here Idol. Please do a vlog about time management how you give time to your girlfriend. Keep safe!
Jhay you are too kind, always appreciate your support!
😂 Shall see how I can work with that!
The answer to pens is only buy 1 type, just a simple Bic crystal ballpoint. Cheap, available everywhere, always works.
Early today :) hope you are safe
Hope you enjoy it!
Over minimalism is definitely as worrying as over consumerism.
Btw, is the tattoo on your left leg a moth ?? It's nice, I like that.
Hey! You read my mind! 😂
Not the moustache!!!
