I just love how easy this video is. Makes me want to go out and take photos right now. 😁 And overcome the whole 'is my photo good enough?' mentality. These jpegs are absolutely brilliant. Love the fact that your content is different. 🙏
I like almost every jpeg better than the raw edits, but also enjoyed what you were going for in the RAWs. Isn't photography just wonderful! I always enjoy the process, no matter what I bring home. Life is good. Cheers friend.
Love your videos mate - I just switched from X-T4 to X100V and it's amazing. Still setting it all up but so amazing to see that JPEG only could work in most cases. It's just the best camera ever made. Epic photos!
Hey! Since you worked with jpeg only a while I might ask you the question directly here: I just tried to get a flat raw with Xraw from fuji and just removed all edits and just used Provia or Astia and then compared it with lightroom adobe neutral and White balance set to auto but they differ greatly it's so weird :D how do you edit if you ever edit? I'm thinking of just using the fuji processor for jpegs and shoot... and if I'm not happy just use lightroom but sort of use the JPEG as reference to get the look and tone down or increase or change it up completely. It's sad that the raws differ in different processors :( I don't really want to use capture one, it's so complicated and I hate the user interface, It's not intuitive and just mashed together in my opinion.@@MikeChudley
I just hope I don't miss out on any hidden processing by Fuji when not using X raw but it does look like it gets quite a lot of contrast even as a raw from just a basic simulation, might just be standard to them so you can't get it super clean, maybe lightroom is sort of ahead there, really confuses me.
It looks like a slight tweak in the contrast and saturation on the JPEGs would make them look almost identical to the raws, which is awesome for an easy day of shooting without the pressure of having to sit down and edit for hours. Love the video!
Those underexposed jpgs looked mazing to me, i loved the look of them, colors, grain... congrats on the photos and the video, really enjoyed it. Regarding the missed oportunities, i thought there was one arround the 4:51 mark, the guy dressed in blue against the yellow/red back... Keep it up.
0:03 Yes I really do love the Fuji film simulations, there's just something magical about them, and it frees up so much of my brain to look more at the composition and soul of my photos!
I’ve been shooting raw + jpeg like you and only have the RAW just in case I mess up. For the most part the JPEGS come out beautiful, I don’t find the need to edit the raw!
A photo that would have turned out cool would be one the guy holding all of those tickets at 11:33, framed 50/50 with the orange and lights on top. As you say, we're so focused on the moment that these tiny other moments get away from us. I find myself looking at my footage and also spotting potentially cool photos that I've missed. Great video man!
Your content is just so amazing. Thanks for sharing. Love how easy you make it seem, and the shots you get are incredible !! I've been debating on this camera for a few months because I lost my love for photography due to the big heavy DSLR and lenses ... It was just too much sometimes to take it, especially on a daily basis when you just go for a walk or for a day in the city. But I miss having a camera always with me. I am sure the Fuji would be perfect to reignite that fun ! And the recipe you used here is just *chefs kiss* so thanks a loooot for sharing. I think I'll need to rewatch all your Fuji videos once I'll got mine !
Nice video. In the video when you asked if there was something else I could have shot in the video and the part where you said I sometimes had to reach over myself if you would have turned to your right you could have got that long sidewalk with the shadows from the rod iron fence and garbage can could have been interesting.
@@MikeChudley The big thing with street photography that I’ve seen is there’s so much going on around you that it it’s hard to capture and spot everything.
I shoot JPEG & RAW with my X-T4, but I tend to use the JPEGs as I just don't have time to sit and edit for hours. I've found that if needed the shadows can be lifted quite nicely in Affinity Photo, too. Great video, it's nice to see a photography video set where I live!
Nice pics all around, was wondering if you just couldn't take the exposure up a notch so the jpegs would not be that dark, and get a result closer to the raw edits ( if this makes sense)
A scene you might have missed? The guy with the blue hoodie on the phone with the blue machine behind him. Thats one that stuck out to me when I saw it, so when you asked later I thought I might as well mention it. I thought that's what you were going for, but it turned out to be the blue door instead.
@@experimentzero9321 turns out. I don’t have the jpeg. I didn’t like the image haha but if someone else had taken it they could have done a better job 😂
Ah that’s a shame. Oh well, you can’t get them all, otherwise there’d be no need to go out again. Great video anyway, as always, and some cracking shots. I always enjoy POV videos to see peoples process and how they compare/don’t to mine.
Mate, you and Dan with the dropped ice creams. I’m convinced you both just go round buying and strategically dropping them all over the place 😂 Good video, been shooting jpeg and raw forever. Always go jpeg for b&w as Acros beats anything I can do.
Love your content. Food for thought: It seems like you favor brighter shadows in your RAW edits. I understand that this video is just a comparison between a JPEG recipe and your ideal version of that recipe via RAW processing. Wouldn't it make more sense though to just adjust the recipe to your taste? In your case, maybe bumping the shadows in the sim to -2? One thing that can be important for us all to remember is that a recipe doesn't have to be rigid; it can be used as a great starting point. Don't feel like you can't tweak to taste, making something entirely unique. Great video, just rocking the boat for the sake of conversation! I had to watch this video with the audio off, so I could be totally off base, haha!
I'd say I liked the JPEGs more often than the RAW edits. I think some of the ones where I liked the RAW edit more is because you didn't quite get the right exposure. You might have been 1/3 or 1/2 a stop too dark. But even so the photos were still good. I think it's important for people to be more accepting of the photos they take, just the way they took them. Nice video.
I find that I can edit the Jpg's nearly as well as the raw files. The fuji jpegs are the best for editing from any other brand out there....and I have had everything except Pentax!!
I haven't tried this film simulation, will have to give it a go. Also been a while since I've been to Southend and this video brought back a lot of nostalgia feels for me
Took inspiration from your jpeg series and tried out the retro picture effect on the Sony jpeg today, really enjoyed the finished snaps. Just have to save my pennies for a fujifilm camera to try out the different recipes that they have. ✌️
Cool video, looking forward to trying out that Ultramax formula! It sometimes seems like you shoot in bursts of 3-4 photos, is this some sort of bracketing? (or maybe just a habit of taking several photos at once?)
Hi Mike. Good video. Opportunities missed? As mentioned the guy in blue passing blue door and I would have tried the reflections from the blinds in the cafe on the table taking a shot from above using the corner of the table. 5.43 in the video. Cheers.

Mike! I’ve been having so much trouble getting blurry photos, then I see you taking photos of someone walking and they come sharp! What kind of wizardry is this!!! Do you have a video on this? Or camera settings to avoid blurry photos, not sure what I’m doing wrong. Cheers, great channel!!!
in the beginning I loved your jpeg but after a while you became with a few underexposed jpeg´s (so, better raw) / thus, the thing is : Fuji jpeg is great ... if we do it with the right exposure, so 😍 click watching too the Histogram and for common photos we do not need raw (that are mandatory for those scenes where we think possible to get the higher level)
If you are using Photoshop it is so easy to edit the RAW files. Takes seconds. These jpeg are only ok with the right light. RAW’s give me much better result when printing pics. Better resolution too. If you only shoot for socials, than jpeg are fine.
I prefer the jpgs in the majority of these photos, likely because I tend to prefer photos with more contrast and shadows. Question: With recipes that have adjusted clarity, like portra etc, are you still able to do burst mode? (Asking since I note a longer processing time on recipes with modified clarity settings.)
you eeem to lift the shadows in all your raw edits. why not set shadows to -2 on the camera. then your jpgs should look similar... it seems backwards but negative values protect shadows and highlights. so -2 shadows will lift your shadows nicely.... -1 highlights will gently restore highlights..

I haven’t had the camera to long and when I do the bracketing of different jpg recipes plus raw. I download them to Lightroom on my Samsung tablet,I have spent forever looking at the differences and I can’t tell a difference between any of them next to the raw.
