    I play a little guitar and do instrument repair as a hobby. I had been thinking of trying a Uke so that I could do something with my young granddaughters. 1st video I see is this one. 2 days later I get a call that a guy has a Uke that has a cracked bridge, and he would like to sell it. Like new otherwise. It was this one! Thanks to you, I knew it was a good one. 40 bucks and 15 minutes work and done. Thank you so much for such an informative review. I'd like uke upgrade video for the exact opposite reason. I have a basic uke and having no musical background (maybe even being a bit tone deaf), I usually don't understand the difference between ukes. I mean, why do I need a different uke and when will I need it? Maybe a video about how to upgrade can educate me on what to look for.

I have a Cocobolo wood tenor, strung with Fremont Black line Low g strings. A Kala Ebony tenor strung with Ken Middleton Living Water Low G strings. Yes I'm a low G fanboy. I dont own a Cordoba but you made me want one. So thanks for that lol. Low G just sounds so good to me. You can really tell the difference between the 2 sounds as one is solid wood and other is laminate. I have a most entry level Cordoba Protege concert size got from amazon on sale back than. What I like about it was NO SHARP FRETS, the binding was so nicely done better than my Islander I just got. The Satin finish was so smooth too, again better than my Islander.
    What I don't like about it was the high action at 3mm general factory setting $15 to lower it, 2.5mm to 2.75mm made a lot difference. The standard 35mm nut width was the reason I got a 38mm Islander. It was a lot easier for me to play, very personal opinion on this one.
    What I really want to say is this, Cordoba the quality is really there even to entry level uke.
    Yes Katie advice to next uke would really be a great video to do.

    I just saw this video on my youtube feed, so I had to watch it. :-)
    I have 2 ukuleles right now, a Lanikai tenor, model MA-CET, shaped the same as the Cordoba in this video, and a Cordoba baritone ukulele, model 20BM. I've gotten to the point now to where I play the Cordoba baritone ukulele a lot more than the tenor ukulele. I guess I'm spoiled by the deeper tone of the baritone ukulele. It's interesting switching from one to the other because you have to remember the difference in the chords. As I'm sure you know, the G chord on the tenor is the D chord on the baritone, and sometimes that messes me up when I'm playing a song. I'm sure I'll get better with that as I play them more, but for now, I play certain songs on the tenor and other songs on the baritone, just to keep them straight in my head.
    One of these days I'm going to learn the finger picking....

    Hi Katie, Thanks for this great review. I actually picked this Cordoba up used and it is lovely but being I newbie I really am not sure if the pick-up is broken or I am not using the correct amplification. I purchased this cord on amazon : Vention 3.5mm to 6.35mm Adapter Jack Audio Cable for Mixer Amplifier Guitar Male to Male Aux Cabo : and thought I could plug it in to my stereo speaker. Its not working.. Can you lead me in the right direction? Do I need a real amp? Is that the wrong cord? or maybe the pickup is not working. I will go head on to the music store for more assistance but thought it was just a coincidence that you reviewed the same ukulele today. and Yes it is VERY PRETTY:) Incidentally my daughter also plays the 15-CM and wont play anything else:) but I did get her for this for Christmas bc she is always stealing my Tenor. Happy New Year!

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  5 років тому

      Great question. Yes, I suggest that you use an amp that is meant for acoustic instruments and an instrument cable. Not all cables are meant for instruments, and some amps are better for acoustic instruments. I used my fishman acoustic amp when I tried it out, and I had no problems. If you are playing live, try something called. Direct input box or DI box for short. If those don’t work, try switching out the batteries. I hope that helps.

    Brilliant learnings here. That neck joint info is awesome to know. In your "upgrading your uke" future video will you explain about these tone's you speak of? I don't know what to listen for when people say a uke may enhance a high, mid or low tone. Also could you show what the pick up buttons do if we upgrade to an electric uke? Travis and Johnathan are great. Passed the smell test😂 interesting insights I hadn't thought about from them and wow they can play. Plus your Mom approves of the quality and playability, sounds like Cordoba has built a winner. It really does have a lovely sound and a beautiful timeless elegance. Thank you for this indepth, knowledge expanding review Katie. Happy weekend 🙏

      Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. To lower the action, you will have to most likely have the bridge sanded down. Most ukes don’t have a truss rod unless it’s a Pono ukulele. There might be other ukes that have truss rods, but most do not. I hope that helps.

    Thanks for the review. I have been a semi professional sax player for over 35 years and during lock down I was encouraged by a friend to fall in love with the ukulele. Thankfully, I have avoided the corona virus, but have been struck down with UAS (ukulele acquisition syndrome) and so this model was acquired to sit along side my acoustic Mainland Tenor. Both are finished by craftsmen who obviously love their instruments. The Cordoba is great fun to run through my acoustic amp. I am starting to look at adding some effects pedals, perhaps that might be a subject for a subsequent video.

      Hi and thanks for watching 😀. I do have a review on several Córdoba ukuleles in one video that compares the most affordable to the most expensive. It also contains the 35T, so I’ll link it below. Thanks again and have a great day.

    Hi! Thank you so much for all that you do for the world of music. My Cordoba just came today. I ran my hands down the neck and at the fret lines it's almost painful. Is that normal? Is yours like that? I'm a little more than disappointed.

    Hi Katy! You are an excellent educator. I love your videos. 😍 How do you feel the action is near the nut? I recently bought a very pretty UKE with similar price and features from another brand. I like everything about the uke except the action is too high; I’m not sure I want to put more money into it to have a luthier fix it. (My understanding is that it can get pricey to fix both nut and bridge.) I think I could handle sanding down a bridge but don’t want to tackle the nut myself... It may make more sense to buy a different uke. I also like my action to be at 2.5mm at the 12th fret. I’m just looking for your thoughts. Thank you! Terri, from Minnesota

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  5 років тому

      Great question and I’m so glad that you liked the video. I would go to someone to get a proper set up. First, just ask how much they think it will be and if they think anything else needs to be done to the instrument. From there, you can decide if it’s worth it. I don’t sand down my saddles or nuts because I don’t want to ruin my instrument. I just take it to the people that do they sort of thing all day everyday 😀. That’s just my opinion. I really hope that helps, and I hope you have a great day.

    I'm very fond of the rope style binding. I would love to see a video of what to look for in an upgraded ukulele. That would be a big help. I have a Cordoba concert. It has a cedar top and acacia laminate body. It sounds great especially for fingerstyle. What do you think of 5 string ukuleles? I am intrigued by those.

      Philip’s Music good choice, I believe it’s exactly the same with mahogany top instead.
      I have ordered this one and I’m excited to get it as I really respect the opinions of seasoned musicians like her that aren’t only Hawaiian brand fanboys.
      Shouldn’t have to spend a mint to get a quality instrument. Thanks to companies like Cordoba, Orangewood, and others.

    I don”t think Cordoba is affordable

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  5 років тому +1

      It’s definitely more affordable for the craftsmanship and materials it’s made out of. It depends upon what you value. An ukulele made of laminate is going to be more affordable because the materials it is made out of is inexpensive. You also have to factor in all of the labor costs and profit margin. If you have a budget and you’re looking for your first uke, this May kit be the one for you;however, Córdoba does make student models or models more suitable for beginners. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask.
