I had the opportunity to chat with Barbara Luna a couple times. She played his eldest daughter in the film The King and I and she said much the same thing. That he was such a sweet and polite man. He was the one who gave her away at her wedding. Barbara and the rest of the King and I cast "children" were treated by Mr. Yul like they were his own children she said.

Yul Brynner was one of my favorite actors when I was 6 yrs and when I was 14 yr I was lucky enough to have seen him at the London Palladium in the King and I. I was mesmerised by him, he was very ill but he was still dancing and singing like nothing was wrong then he collapsed on stage, the curtains came down the play stopped and we was told to wait the play will go on Yul Brynner just needed to rest, he recoved enough to continue he came back and finished the play. The whole theater gave a standing ovation everyone was shouting and he took three bows it still make me cry. I didn't know then how ill he was.

He was a brilliant one off .....we need people with such individuality in our often mundane modern world - where people toe official lines so much they bore rather than entertain.....I know he spoke several languages so presume English may not have been his mother tongue, which makes his fine precise acting all the more remarkable....(the camera loved him and he was one of the most memorable and charismatic stars ever to grace the silver screen)

His strength as a superstar, his intelligence charm, humor and presence are all examples of some of the best qualities of humanity and he should be celebrated for his lifetime's contributions to this world.

What I find amazing is how people seem to determine how they feel about an actor based on his personal life. I fall in love with the characters they play and how they portray that character. Not the person playing that character. I don't care about the person. I don't care about the real person's politics love life personal habits or anything real about them. I go see them to be entertained. Not for advice not for a friend not for their opinion or anything else for that matter. I will never hate him because he did a great job of being a certain character. Period.

Brynner personally insisted that Bergman was cast in the film. He had just come off the Oscar win the previous year and had enormous clout in Hollywood at that moment. Bergman had been blacklisted do to a personal scandal involving her relationship with Rossellini. Brynner fought for her specifically until the prodicers relented. He basically saved her career.

An excellent, glimpse of the life of a complex, brilliant man. Sadly, many of the comments reveal individuals who need to have their heroes whitewashed and are either uninterested or unable to tolerate seeing the full facet of their complicated personalities. Why can we not admire, even love our heroes and accept that they are imperfect humans like the rest of us.

I think you did really good job of sharing with us the complex nature of the iconic Yul Bryner. I was first smitten by him when I saw him in The King & I. I think I'll always be a little smitten, but appreciate knowing more about his difficult character in real life. But still believe in him & hope he had more peace within himself toward end & more freedom from his ego. We all suffer from the antics of ego to some degree if we are overly identified with it & sounds like he had complexes of self esteem that made his more reactive. I wish him peace & joy in Light of God. I loved him in film version of King & I & the strength of the woman who bewildered him as King. Was really great movie. Thankyou. Was very interesting to hear more of his background & interests outside acting. Great job!❤

I hadn't heard those bad things abt his personality, but it's easy to spill things when ppl are dead & can't defend themselves. personally, unless a celebrity does illegal & immoral things, i don't expect them to be perfect, they're human, so they obviously have flaws. sure, when actors combine talent AND great personality, it's even better, but when I watch a movie, what I expect is them to act well. it's not as if I had to live with them

I can't understand why the daughter thinks she has to tell us the 'truth'. Earlier she said he was the greatest person of the world. She brought out a book with his fotos He made and now this. She wants to earn money with his dead but also famous father.
He wasn't perfect as we all. And could be a better actor as a narcissist? Don't forget the time he lived. The world was another one and the influence of the time where someone live is important to understand something. To see back and to critical is to easy and not very intelligent...
But if money has to come...

His daughter has said nothing against him! All those informations come from other people's interviews, that I have seen years ago. It's a misleading title to attract viewers! I cann't find anything new in that video that his daughter has said.

Yul Brenner was talented. His performance in The King and I was outstanding. He looked incredibly handsome. I have no idea if what this video is about is actually true. I really don't care if it is or not. That man has been dead for so long I can't imagine why anyone wants to bad mouth him now!!

Every person who walks this earth thinks he is bigger than life, better than anyone , does not escape something bigger than them (death)If you can beat that then your better because all your ideas and all your accomplishments go down in the grave with you and no one may ever know why you think your better then the next human being. Stay humble people.

Having played the youngest child in the original Broadway stage production of
"The King & I", I am quite shocked by this character defamation of Yul Brynner! He invited me and my sister to spend a weekend at his Connecticut house with his wife and son, Rocky. He was so fatherly and kind. THAT'S how I choose to remember him and hope to join him in Heaven at the appointed time the good Lord has chosen. Barbara Luna, 87, who played Tuptim briefly in the same production who also was my NYC neighbor, I believe would say the same nice things about Mr Brynner. May he R.I.P. 🙏♥️

To much petty focus on disputes between actors most of whom have large egos and distort many facts about their personal lives, origins, etc. Most of the Reveals being made about old actors/actresses who were really idolized by older generations as ridiculously "Perfect" seem to NOT allow them to be as a product of their lives which were often DIFFICULT. Brennar was born into a post Bolshevik Revolution Russia and the "dad" abandoned the family. He was an amazing actor and accomplished individual. His circus accident would have been enough to defeat many personalities. His amazing rebirth as an actor speaks to his strength of character. Frankly, his accomplishments were not those of an AVERAGE PERSON. I respect him more than ever. This summary of his life should not have focused on his character flaws for the entire beginning. He grew to be a better person in old age even changing his mind regarding ethnic prejudice a COMMON trait of humans in earlier 20th century. He was a great ACTOR. His flaws are not close to the current people of Hollywood.

Why do you feel the need to isolate and attack the actor Yul Brynner? I think most actors have some type of hyper ego, but he was also intelligent and had many obstacles to overcome. I guess he wasn’t in the “club.”
Steve McQueen seems like the sneaky one who stirs up trouble while blaming others for retaliation. Sounds like petty things to complain about. This is so ridiculous!

Yul died because of the effects of smoking. Before he died he did a commercial talking about the consequences. They played the videos for about a week after he died. Thats how powerful Philip Morris was, to have them removed. I was so disappointed in that action.

Now, the sloppy and lazy co-workers need to buckleup, they enjoy the fame, but deep inside they don't forget the "polishing". I am not loved from my personell, but my station had the lowest procent od deaths and complications, so, bite me :D
