About the track:
While Elvis Presley’s 1968 television special was in part a “back-to-basics” production, it still packed the second-to-none theatrics fans of The King had always expected. This lively gospel number, featuring some of Elvis’ favorite hymns, shows what made him such a legendary performer. ’68 Comeback Special: 50th Anniversary Edition, a new 5CD/2BD box set available on November 30, features every magic moment from the filming of this classic production.

You never see Elvis as comfortable as he is when singing gospel. It's his major love, and really shows. Elvis singing gospel is among my absolute favorites of all time.
You are so right. Elvis said gospel puts his mind at ease. He always sang gospel with much respect and reverence to the Lord Jesus 🙏
I had an opportunity to talk to the Stamps and the Imperials Quartet back in 2008. They told me Elvis loved the Gospel segments of his concerts the best. He sang "Peace in The Valley" on Ed Sullivan with the Jordanaires in 1957 at the height of his rock and roll fame and RCA released an Extended Play 45rpm that same year. It should come as no surprise that Elvis 3 Grammy Awards all were for his gospel recordings.
Actually, these Parts of the special are prerecorded! You can find great quality stereo versions on popular streaming services (i use Amazon music)
Look up pastor Bob joyce on UA-cam. Ur welcome
He's actually lip syncing this one. He and the other performers are just performing to a pre recorded track. You can really tell in the very beginning right when his vocal start, they didn't have the volume quite loud enough in it quickly increased.
The 68 Special was so far ahead of it's time it's ridiculous. The first MTV Unplugged. First long form music videos. The expensive cars, the big contracts. Everything. Whatever the King did, he did it first.
Lol most of his songs come from black artists who got little to no credit for their work
@@zacharym6205 With due respect I think that is what and to whom Elvis Presley acknowledged the roots of the music he loved and embraced
@@rowancottage1736 right but saying he did it first is inaccurate
You’re right!! It invented the MTV unplugged series
Ele é sensacional 👏👏👏👏
When I started watching this video 9 minutes ago, I was an atheist. Now I am a Baptist preacher!
Amen hallelujah 🙌
Jesus loves everyone
Right on man!!! Lol.. me, too.
I'm black and I loved Elvis.
Great voices and the talent dont have color .
I'm with you Judy, we only understand why we have to say it. Because you have alot of ignorant ass people out there. Ignorance don't have a color, neither does music and how it makes you feel. There were alot of black people who loved Elvis and didn't give a shit about who knew. Elvis acknowledged where Rock truly came from, he was very authentic and real, and brave for even making these statements at that time, it was taboo and prohibited. God bless you Elvis.
Everything about this damn man is perfect. His voice. His face. His expressions. His moves. Omg. I never realized how charismatic and sultry he was. This is why he is a legend. The KING
Sultry definitely describes this amazing man
I always realized it. Since I was 5 years old.
Add humilitty , respectful , kind and mamas boy to that !!!
God given talent and a precious gift from God
🥰
He never denied his God and he put him first and was proud to worship him for the world to see
Still IS😉
In his prime, when he 'shouldnt have' the mainstream was pushing him to sex and violence he came out of the army straight to gospel
Amen amen 🙏
Unfortunately he was tempted and gave in to the women.
Great God Amen to All throughout the year s now and forever
when he talks about changes in music it’s the PROFOUND Elvis, the real one, not the showman….this is extremely historically important
I was discussing this with my mim. We LOVE Elvis like he's family. He worried he wouldn't be remembered, but he's not just the most influential entertainer of the 20th century, he's an actual, important historical figure! It's almost too much to fathom. A boy from Tupelo.
Have you noticed that whatever genres of music Elvis performs he OWNS it!.. Gospel, rock, blues, country, r&b even semi-operatic music. How can one artist master so many different styles of music?
Then even on top of that, he owns the stage, the looks, the style, the moves, the electricity, and that huge charisma that commands your attention!
Most artists struggle to be really good in any one department, Elvis mastered them all.
Elvis is the King of the mountain. Superhuman!
Well said, he was exceptionally gifted and talented, and above all humble about it. ⚡🇿🇦
The Best of all!!
You mean everything he displayed was jacked .. stop gassin ya head
Him and Kelly Clarkson are the only artist I know that do that
True….also check out an artist Elvis loved…Bobby Darin. Covered every genre in his 37 years, was a multi-instrumentalist, songwriting, actor….
He acknowledged the black roots of rock and roll, AND gospel music. One of the few who did, at that time
Stop lieing what a dp shit trying to start some stupid shit .
He was not a racist person. He honored MLK in this same special
In Texas they told him not to bring the ladies that sang backup with him
He said if they weren't wecolm he wouldn't be there. They all were there!!
I visited Graceland in 2006. Prior to that, I didn't "get" Elvis. When I stood in his house in front of his possessions, I definitely felt his aura. I came away a changed woman. Absolutely powerful and spell binding. Elvis was something else. Born to entertain. Even though he has been gone since 1977, he still feels so present. Remarkable.
I was there in 2017. I'm a huge fan but what you said is real. You can feel his spirit visiting Graceland ❤️ It has been one of the most "powerful" experience of my life
@@elvis78ale same! I left thinking that was the feeling born again Christians might get. Weirdly powerful.

Yes!!! Totally!!! 😃👍👍
This man is absolutely gorgeous, not only in his looks but his heart too. He is so loving and I hope he is in a happy place right now, free of worry and stress. The king will always be here, his spirit will live on forever.
I have a newfound special respect for Elvis because he acknowledged the Gospel, R&B and Black roots of Rock n Roll Music. What he did, everyone else followed. Salute to the King and brother.
💯%
Please listen to him sing "Oh Danny Boy" his interpretation of this song is out of this world.
Apparently Elvis said, he is not the King, Jesus is King.
So tired of the idiots of today, questioning the geniuses of the times of yesterday.

My mom watched with her siblings and my grandparents too.
I was 13 years old when thisspecial came out! I remember being glued to the tv! So many good memories of 1968
Honestly, Elvis just took us all to church with this amazing singing voice and the epic Gospel number!
Absolutely.
Sure did and still does when we watch and listen I’ve watched a few reactions on Elvis from this generation and many see this too! Some even say he took me to church on some of his ballots. Then they check out his gospels.
This man had a special soul, non judge-mental, pure, honest, passionate and you can feel it all through his music, it’s incredible 🙏🏼
Yes I agree. Elvis was humble and unique.... 👍⚡🙏🇿🇦

I feel very strongly about the comment with Elvis Presley was the of the very highest spiritual gospel singer that my ears have ever heard ! It's just truly sad that he went beyond the call to satisfy his FANS to no end as he became a prisoner in his own world ! There's only one and I will not call him a KING as there's only ONE with the LORD ,JESUS CHRIST ! He surely blessed all music LOVERS with the time that Mr. ELVIS PRESLEY entertained the entire world with his humbleness for as huge of a SUPERSTAR that he was ! RIP Mr. ELVIS PRESLEY !
Hallelujah!! Feel like I’ve been to a church service. This man had deep southern soulful roots and there is no doubt that his upbringing with black gospel music was such an inspiration for him. What a man.

He was just larger than life and full of charisma
When I was 10 years old, (33 now) I visited Graceland for the 1st, and only time. I was miserable. Just complaining and wanted to go home. As soon as I walked through the doors, it all went away. I like how Elvis started this off with the old black gospel hymnal to show where everything stemmed from and pay tribute before he started his set. I've always liked listening to Elvis' gospel. He put a spin with uptempo and flair on some gospel standards making them his own.
There are lots of uptempo gospel songs as well, but I get what you mean.
For 1968 this whole show was "CUTTING EDGE"!!!
And one can still see that today.
Indeed..
And to think Colonel wanted a Christmas show.
Glad he went with his gut & not with Tom

The cause of the beauty of Elvis isn't his physical. It is his unique attitude and talent .
Elvis was God's gift tooo the world.
Im here im 73 been listening to Elvis Presley since 1960 i just love listening to Elvis sing he opened so many doors for so many people rip my friend love betsy amen 🙏
For those wondering what exactly Presley brought to the production, besides his voice, it was that he wasn’t overwhelmed by the sets, the extras, the lights.
He integrates when he needs to, and takes the lead in every sequence. This gospel sequence may be his most sincere section. Sure, he could rock like crazy, croon a tender pop song, even do juke joint level blues. But when he brought his gospel voice, that’s the purest Elvis. Somewhere Up Above and Saved are powerhouse takes. It’s him at a peak, which is better than just about anyone else.
Jesus is king of kings
This sequence got me started listening to gospel music. Sometimes I really think Elvis was an angel sent here to entertain and make our lives better.
Me too!
Don’t be silly, man.
Elvis Presley changed and talks about his past, but he has his fans in his mind....As you listen to Pastor Bob Joyce (Elvis) in this video when you go to 10:15 he hints about his life before! Interesting isn't it?
Here are the words that he says (go to 10:15 in the video):
"There is something about this man, that is so appealing to me. That I am not going to concern ... I'm not going to concern myself with what I was and what I had before. Because Jesus makes a difference in my life. There is something about Jesus that causes me not to even be so concerned about my life that I had before. Or my problems or whatever it is that I had in life. Suddenly things have changed, my mind has changed, my affections, my ah ... interests has changed. I'm not interested in how many fish I can catch today. I'm interested to see what Jesus is going to do next. Can you imagine walking with Jesus everywhere you went. Listen what I am telling you this morning is reality."
YOU Always on His Mind by Pastor Bob Joyce ua-cam.com/video/iYt-TN3M2YU/v-deo.html
He won a Grammy for his gospel album.
Ok.. so here is the deal.. I know how hard it is to believe that Elvis is still alive. But to be alive and to be a preacher too. Now that is going to far right? Well NO. Not if you remember how much he loved God and how he was raised. Pastor Bob is preaching because he was raised to love Jesus. Elvis and Bob have that in common. Here is the real issue that people have. To believe that Elvis is still alive means that you have to WAKE UP to the real reality of things. Not everything you see or hear is true. Most people are happy just living in a dream world of false reality. Waking up when you are enjoying your sleep is not fun. Just try and wake someone up sometime when they are really tired and sleeping well.. You may get a black eye. So it's ok. No hard feelings here. You can believe what ever you want. I chose to wake up and live in a different reality. One where Elvis never died because he wanted to actually live. Elvis had no life. He was a prisoner in his own home. He couldn't even go to the store without being mobbed. People tried to tear his cloths off his body. He was never able to be himself, he had to always be Elvis. Well he put Elvis to rest in 1977. He died so that he could live. Now after all this time, he wants the world to know that He didn't do this only for personal reasons. He did it because he had no other alternative. You see Jesus said.. "If you loose your life for my sake you shall find it." Elvis needed to get away from Elvis and become a regular man so he could concentrate on Jesus and heal. Elvis was under a tremendous amount of pressure. People idolized him as if he were a god. But there is only ONE GOD! Elvis is not him. God is God and man is man. We can not keep on idolizing men and women. We need to only idolize God. If there is anything in this world that Elvis would love to do, that would be to come back to the public eye as himself and re start his music, preach the gospel and just be BOB. Can we get a big Amen for Bob? Let me tell you something.. I sure wouldn't mind giving this wonderful man my blessing.. He sure does deserve it. After all he still is the greatest singer in history. The "King Of Rock n Roll" .. But in reality he is just a regular man like you and me that loves God and Music. Give him a chance folks. He has a message that will knock your socks off and potentially save this stinking world.
That brick red outfit with the white collar and bolo scarf, WoW!!!

His Legacy must be preserved and protected at any cost, this man is too important for the history of music
Because there,s nowbody like him enymore, and there never ever wil be.now 45 years after his passing there,s still no competition
The man was miles away ahead of his time. 👌👍👍
I think Prescilla is doing her utmost to keep his memory preserved. I don't suppose its all selfless on her part, after all, Elvis's memory is her income - but she and her team put a lot of effort in to keep the fans happy. In an ideal world, she would've just got on with her life many years ago. It can't be fun for her to be asked "do you still miss him?". The answer has to be "no", but for the fans' sake, she has to say yes. It keeps the romance of it all alive and she knows that. She (and her team) keeps his legacy perfectly alive.

Elvis with the Sweet Inspirations. That was brave for 1968.
