We've all heard it - the more successful you are, the happier you are. But what if it was the opposite? What if being happier, actually made you more successful? ua-cam.com/video/IkMHZ7mchVo/v-deo.html
This makes perfect sense, Literally been stuck on a uni project, got just over a week left. Basically restarted it over the last weekend cus I wasn't happy with it, literally pumped out an entire semesters worth of work in a day, what did I do different? Basically put on the Ricky Gervais show and listen to the insane ramblings of Karl Pilkington and just enjoying doing the work for once.
To me, the definition of success is achieving happiness. So to me, success and happiness are one and the same. Keep doing these, SoulPancake! You're the reason I pass my psychology class!
"If you are happy and you know it, clap your hands."...okay, you don't really have to do that but when you are happy, you gather happy people to you, you make others happy and life is better. Science even backs this...Be Happy!! ♥
This is 100% true, I do a LOT better on exams when I am less stressed and having a positive attitude going into the test, everything will just suddenly "click" for me and i breeze through it. Sometimes I even remember things in class i never took notes for, that's why i kinda stopped studying and stressing myself last minute and usually play games hours before an exam, get a cup of coffee, and ace that dam thing :)
When your happy you think of good things happening, you are determined to succeed. when you aren't happy you see everything negatively and you expect things to fail. & whatever vibes you put out in the world usually happens. If you think positive thoughts positive things happen, if you think negative thoughts negative things happen.
Everyone can be happy. I'm a 20 year old who isn't in school and is working 38 hours a week in a broke down dishroom with lazy co-workers who make the job a lot harder than it already is. And I wake up and decide to be happy. Happiness is a choice, you can either get out of bed and complain about who you are and what you have, or be positive and work hard towards better things. You can't do something to bring you happiness if you're in a negative mood, so you're wrong, happiness DOES come first.
This video really spoke to me. I just lost all my life savings (almost 5 grand) gambling. I have no job. I'm not going to college. But God bless me, I am so happy. I am seeking a job, doing fun things, and I know my life is going to turn out great! I can already feel the success coming on. This is so true!
+Stacey Ohh Yay! We are so happy you enjoyed it! Check out the other Science of Happiness videos here: bit.ly/1Wl4MYm AND the Science of Love videos here: bit.ly/1TAf3sF
Wow.....man!! I loved all the videos i watched. I'm an Architect [but currently doing my masters]. I'm commenting especially on this video because, I always watch something inspirational or something happy before starting my work or design projects so that it keeps me motivated and keep me happy but mostly importantly I do my work happily though if the work is kinda boring. Love to watch all the videos....and thanks for making me happy like more than 10 times in 5 minutes.
Emma yes, money is happiness only if paired with time, eqation: money+freetime=happiness... the other one, like you figured out for yourself is: food=happiness, aka cheaper-version.
nicely done, I know when i was younger, i had times i wish had never happened, and had my share of rough times, but to change what was, would change what you are, and well, wouldnt want that, but excellently done!! ty
What I liked is the "backwards" part - meaning that success doesn't lead to happiness, but happiness leads to success. Of course anyone could say that it's a matter of perspective, depending on the focus. In that case, maybe it works both ways. But still, kudos for thinking outside the box. If success doesn't happen, then at least we have a positive attitude. That in itself is a success.
When you know that you're worthy of love and belong at the end of a long hard day then someone else's opinion about your level of success doesn't matter. Whether or not you got only 10 things done or knocked out your to do list, you'll know that what you got done that day is a bad measure of how happy you are allowed to be.
Dude, you created an experiment using the scientific method, had a control group and followed through with the experiment very accurately. You were even completely honest about your findings which is more than can be said for most studies; Therefore you are a scientist in my opinion. The only thing a degree says it that you are willing to spend a lot of time and money for a piece of paper that is simply a socially agreed upon and trusted source of recognition for your abilities.
Well, that's what most people are aiming for; happiness. A lot of people have it since birth, others get it later on and some (like me) are having a great difficulty trying to achieve it.
The real question should have been "Performance" and not "Success". Would have had better answers to "Do you think you perform better when you feel happier?" . Great content btw.
Being sad is bad for my health. Of course I'm aware that being happy makes to do better because of your uplifting attitude, and we your sad you simply don't think clearly. For me, just being optimistic helps. Its not being happy, but its not being sad either. I also try to look for things that make me happy even if it is very temporary.
Everyone is saying that there's different definitions to success and I'm so pleased with that because I'd define success as happiness. As long as you're happy, I'd say that you have a very large degree of success in your life!
I know some people who struggle with their feelings. And they cope by shutting them down. They don't let themselves be happy because it makes them vulnerable to being hurt. They don't feel any sadness either. They simply refuse to feel. With all these experiments linked to happiness, can you do an experiment to see if sadness can be linked to happiness... perhaps it might better be said as vulnerability or openness.
in world pumped up that success is having money or doing some preindoctrinated job in order to feel success i found this video most interesting and actually awakening for many people....love it when few people point out how success is actually personal perspective...
just like how a teacher teaching in class, when a teacher teaching with fun way that will set the students in the good mood which will make the students easily to understand what the teacher explaining. sorry for my bad grammar.
I love it! It's just amazing, all this work... I truly believe that happiness makes a big improve in all ways :) Anyway, could you tell me what's the soundtrack of your videos and where can I get them? It's definitely positive!
This is a known experiment that doesn't have to do with happiness. It has to do with how you pose the experiment to the two groups. It matter on how you introduce the box either with or and the tacks/matches.
I appreciate the video, but I think this study could've used a few more controls. For example, it may not have been the happiness that gave people a boost but a feeling of indebtedness from all the stuff you gave them. They may have felt like working harder in your study because you were nice to them.
I'm guessing that mega George is actually tiny little George. The experiment was great. We all control our own feelings To a point. Choose to be happy. It's a proven fact that even if you force yourself to smile or laugh, it will lighten your mood. Not to mention acknowledging every little good thing that happens to you, from getting a green light, to a beautiful sunset to, a good cup of coffee. These are life's small pleasures. If you get a red light or stuck in traffic, look up!
it's for Someone who mention the Comment "He's not real Scientist" Here i appreciated he's way of Watching to identify.. But what matter whether is real or Fake but matter is Rules. If Someone can define simple rules with big impact he's Scientist without degree. Gratitude make anyone what they want.
Your right, their methods were not tight enough to prove anything. But the video is a fun demonstration of true principles. If you want real research go to Google Scholar and search for actual happiness research. Type in keywords like happiness, creativity, experiment, manipulation, that kind of stuff and you will find some nice psychology journal articles. Happy researching to you!
What about the Edgar Allen Poe's of the world? There's this notion that tortured, depressed people are more creative and come up with inspired work stemming from their condition. Wonder how you account for that...
I know it can be hard at times but, you just have to pray and have faith. I tell my friends all the time. The secret to prayer is FAITH. If you're not a believer then try the book The Secret and just practice positive thinking. It works!! Prayer works for me though!
why did he not mention how 2 of the people who were happy, although they didn't solve it correctly, took 2 completely different way of doing the task? one by "gluing" the candle with its own wax and the other without using the box. They weren't done "corrrectly" but in their way of taking the question they were right
Doesn't seem entirely rigorous; giving people food (particular candy) gives them short term energy, in addition to "happiness," so that can explain some of the results.
Maybe it's true, but it's irrelevant for a lot of situations. A lot of situations, usually in more competitive careers, require you to perform well in very uncomfortable conditions and you just have to get through it even if you don't feel happy.
I'd say so. Honestly, nothing puts me in a good mood if I make an expensive mistake during my work day and nothing puts me in a bad mood if I make a brilliant decision. The irony is that I try to dampen my emotion as much as possibly while in the process of buying happiness. Some people, like to say "money doesn't buy happiness". And to me that simply isn't true. For example... No rich person ever spammed a comments section. Poverty = misery. Just look at those spammers go...
We've all heard it - the more successful you are, the happier you are. But what if it was the opposite? What if being happier, actually made you more successful? ua-cam.com/video/IkMHZ7mchVo/v-deo.html
I can definitely relate with this experiment. If I get candies and snacks = boost creativity! I'm just wondering how small the control group is.
I love soul pancake science

“Success is not the key to happiness; happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”
I love everything about this video series. Mostly the not-scientist gentleman... Yep, mostly him. And his awesome Chucks.
Happiness can make you do things freely and become innovative but with all due respect, deep down inside "Fear" is the biggest drive to success.
Aw, this means so much to us. Thank you!
you are very right, but when your happy that is success
To me, happiness is success...
haha yes same! :)
I think that each one leads to the other: of you're happy you will succeed and when you get success you will feel even happier
Those vids are amazing!!! You guys deserve much much more views!!! Thank you so much for lighting up my day.
my definition of success is anything that results in happiness. I also believe that happy people are more successful by any standards.
Everyone can be happy. I'm a 20 year old who isn't in school and is working 38 hours a week in a broke down dishroom with lazy co-workers who make the job a lot harder than it already is. This may be the most fascinating series on UA-cam
294 people are unhappy and thus unsuccessful people.
He's not a real scientist? But, but he wears a white lab coat!
lol
fake it till you make it ;)
He's clearly a social scientist...
These videos are so fun to watch! They always put a smile on your face.
All for people being happy with what they do and in turn using that happiness to be creative.

This episode -and the recognition of its limitations- made me happy.
So you're saying the a definition of happy is food.
Emma yes, money is happiness only if paired with time, eqation: money+freetime=happiness... the other one, like you figured out for yourself is: food=happiness, aka cheaper-version.
And i say this in the name of all non-scientists in this room.
Can relate.
Yes

Accept who you are so naturally you become happy and because you like who you are you are successful anyway.. Yaaaay
happiness is the success , be happy and you will be successful for being happy
I just meet your channel today, is amwsome! The world need this!
You guys are fricken' awesome! I just discovered your channel and I looooovvveee it! YOU ROCK DUDES! Thanks for sharing your awesomeness! xxx
I decided to go to the gym before studying because of this video. and it really allowed me to study well. thanks!
I think happiness leads to success in the sense that if you’re happy you’re already successful.
So cool! I have a better outlook on life after just a few soulpancake videos.
Thank you Julian... That's very well insight 😉👍
Yes, happiness is very important. I can't stand being around negative people. They're so draining!!
I LOVE U AND WHAT U ARE DOING!
Being in a horrible mood. watching this made me happy! :)
Thank u guys for making the world so much better!

watching soulpancake puts me in a good mood. I study better afyer after watching a good video :)
True happiness is rather hard to obtain, therefore, making it a success of its own.
Everyone is saying that there's different definitions to success and I'm so pleased with that because I'd define success as happiness. As long as you're happy, I'd say that you have a very large degree of success in your life!
I needed this. Going to finish my pre-lab for Bio, and I'm happy :) lol

Can you re-post the study?! Actually interested in reading it!
Belgira HHS Couldn't agree more. This is one book that shows the way.

In my opinion, being happy in our world is a success in its own.
We did not accept that as a solution and ultimately that person failed the puzzle.
I love it! It's just amazing, all this work... I truly believe that happiness makes a big improve in all ways :)
Anyway, could you tell me what's the soundtrack of your videos and where can I get them? It's definitely positive!
There should be a study about how knowing being if being happy is good for you or not will make you more or less happy
This is a known experiment that doesn't have to do with happiness. It has to do with how you pose the experiment to the two groups. It matter on how you introduce the box either with or and the tacks/matches.
i just love this videos from Soulpancake
Happiness!!! It's not about the destination it's about the journey!!
Soulpancake is wonderful. : ) I love optimism.
Spread happiness! YAY!
Thanks for the support! :)
The more you love yourself the happier you are- and the more you love others! Yay!
Thank you. Happiness leads to success.❤😊
You're happy if or when you succeed but you succeed when you're happy.
I love that someone is actually studying happiness!
What about someone's theory about "Pressure leads you to creativity. The more you're in pressure, the more you're creative."?
Soulpancake you continue to up yourself!
I'm thinking that it's a good idea to have a delicious high carb snack before problem solving. The brain runs on sugar so it couldn't hurt.. ;)
this is the only episode that hasn't made me cry. phew.

i'm happy that i came up with the same solution at 5:15!
Two things:
I'm more creative when I'm not happy.
I think happiness IS sucsess.

You are awesome man!
I need to remember this for work tomorrow. X

In conclusion, people who are experiencing sugar rush are better at solving puzzles.

Happiness does not lead to success
Happiness is success
happiness leads to success
so thats why cooking always needs a good mood

I agree wholeheartedly!
take it for what it's worth - it's not worth anything because there are too many unknowns/flaws in the experiment.
