Looks like quite a good bow
thanks Aleks!
@@DanSantanaBows What is the poundage?
See the full build for diagrams notes and all the details. More info is always in the description. This one’s 60# at 28”
Impressive craftsmanship, fantastic music, a pleasure to watch!
Nice tiller!
Thanks Erica!
Keep posting about Arrow making and bows
I have an almost perfectly straight fruit tree that started growing in my pines. It’s maybe 1.5-2 inch diameter at least halfway up and 12-15 ft tall, never branched. I cut it down while pruning them this year. We just bought the house and it’s probably been trying to grow out of the canopy for probably like 10 years now. I’m thinking of making a bow or something and put it to good use. It’s just too perfect to cut up and burn
Excellent!
Great Bow
Beautiful arc in that tillering, Dan. Keep up the good work encouraging new people to the craft and passing it along, brother.
Thanks my friend and same to you!
Anymore I enjoy teaching others far, far more than making them.
Badass!
Very cool, good looking longbow. Love the sequence of tree to finished bow. Thank you
Thanks! There’s also a full video of the build with notes a lot more detail
Uma arte milenar, incrível. Parabéns para o artesão.
Obrigado Marcio!
Cutest thing I ever did see
Made myself a bow recently from a chunky branch, possibly yew
Very rewarding feeling despite it having a tiny range
Turned out great! Love your work, big fan. 👍👍
In RuneScape osrs I can make 14 in about 20 secends :)
Your tree was maple.
Very nice man very nice build bro .. beautiful Bow
thanks!
Wow the last shot looked amazing
What's the name of the tool using to shape the wood
drawknife. I’m making a video all about them
soon
@@DanSantanaBows cool, i went to a store today they didn't have it they say it's hard to find it

How short of a bow can you build?… with decent poundage? Would love to see a video on that!
You can go very short with very high draw weights. Just look at crossbow prods. The trouble is getting both of those things and a full draw length. Most historical short bow designs didn’t use a full draw length with an anchor
@@DanSantanaBows a friend of mine built me a self bow at 54” and I use it at my full draw length of 28”. Was curious if you could go shorter :-). I love the 58” - 60” mark. Long designs are hard to hunt in the woods with. Keep the videos coming. Love your channel.

Nice work
The riven bow, now I have an idea of what to do with my collection of drawknives.
See the long version of this video for build notes and details, as well as the board bow tutorial for beginners
Nice work.. I havent had much luck with maple board bows even after watching your maple board bow vid numerous times..lol... All have ended up with compression fractures and two blew up...
It happens, especially as you're learning. Next time you make a bow head over to r/bowyer and post some tiller checks along the way. We'll do our best to keep you right on track
@@DanSantanaBows I will do that, thank you...😉
Brings me back to my first 99 in OSRS
Great bow
👍✨💥💐🌟💯
Awesome!!!!!!
I was wandering in the forest and I just got the idea of making a bow so I started looking for a stick and I found an incredibly flexible one so I just made a bow for the first time i sharpened some sticks for arrows and it’s so much fun to do I’m thinking about asking for a bow
Why it looks so satisfying
Love the Inca music. 😉
Quecha rather.
I've started making a few bows and canes, but they seem to crack or split after removing the bark. Any ideas?
Do you let the wood season before tillering?
Beautiful bows, music, scenery, love it!
Yes see the full tutorial for notes and details, or my quick drying video
@@DanSantanaBows Thank you so much for your response, i have been into bowyery and archery since a young age and made several bows on a very amateur level, your channel is a very rich and satisfying source of inspiration to get me back into it.
@@thoomm Thanks Thom, good luck and let me know if you have any more questions! And visit me over at r/bowyer if you need any help with your bows

Max range of arrow?
about 180 yards for this one with normal weight arrows. Can go much farther with lighter flight arrows
Very nice
Good job👍, and which kind of tree was it?
Sugar maple. See the full video
looks like a very smooth shooting bow there my friend! what's the draw weight. I'm going to guess 80#?
Nice. I have some yew I would like to make a bow out of. Any tips?
What string did you use
Dacron but any bow making material is fine. See the full tutorial or my longer form videos if you want information

Super
Don't you hurt you back after shaving off all that wood? mine hurts😅
What is the two handed blade called that you used to carve the wood?
Drawknife. See my main videos, there’s a recent one about them
What's the fletching level required to make one of these? I heard high aching maple longs isn't really that profitable.
Maple. See the full video for details
How long did you let your maple sit before you started working with it?
1 yr. see the full video and my quick drying tutorial for more
@@DanSantanaBows thank you!
I have a problem with bending the bow, the more I bend it, the more it breaks 😪
I have three videos that should help you out specifically. 1 is how to break a bow 2. Then the tillering video, then the board bow tutorial. These videos have all the foundation you need to stop breaking bows but let me know if you have any more questions and good luck!
Thank you 🏹❣️
❤❤❤
From which wood you have made the bow?
sugar maple. See the full video for information
Thanks 👌
The wood doesn't need seasoning?
I want to start making bows but some people say the wood needs a year to be good to do it
I dried it for about a year. See the full video for all the details as well as my quick drying tutorial
Dan, what type of maple works for bow making, sugar, silver? Also do you like hickory where the bark side is the back?
Sugar maple is best, or any of the ‘hard maple’ species. And yes you can use the underbark surface of the tree for hickory. See my video “the back of the bow, 6 ways” for a lot more about that

Did you carve the stave green, or season it?

What did you use for a string?
I made it from a roll of dacron bowstring material
@@DanSantanaBows that sucks, my Dicksucking enemies won't sell me any Dacron, I was hoping for a lead on a sturdy, natural material I could produce myself. Shame we live in a communist country.

This particular bow was made from maple, particularly Acer saccharum.
Za mene nepostoji bolji hobi .
Hey! So are you ever scared it will snap on you while tillering? I'm making my first one and as I was carving, i knew there was a part that was too frail so while tillering i accidentally snapped it. Should i make my next one thicker?? How do you prevent it? I'm scared I'll hurt the wood by bending it
Also, I made it from a Hickory wood board. I checked the flow of the grain and it went all the way down with no stripes going onto the outside so it was from the center of the tree. There were no knots in it that I saw. It's a 1 by 2 inch board and 6ft tall. What do you think I should do for the next one?
Breakage stops being such an issue after some experience, but there’s always the chance of an unexpected flaw in the wood. See my playlist of beginner essentials where I cover the key topics that will get you confident about this. Especially see the video how to break a bow 2. There you’ll find plenty of tips to keep it from happening. You don’t have to make it thicker. Follow my board bow tutorial and if you need a tiller check post one on r/bowyer and we’ll get you help specific to your bow
@@DanSantanaBows thank you so so so much. Will do! ❤❤❤
