I’ve watched all the videos on folding saw horses, and this has to be the best design I’ve seen. It folds flat and only uses two hinges. The load is not taken by the hinges or screws unlike some other designs and it can be knocked together with only hand tools in a couple of hours. Brilliant.
I have been a carpenter for 30 years. These are great looking horses thank you sir!!
Honestly of all the video's I've seen of people showing how to make some basic fold-able saw-horses, your's have the best fool-proof design. Love it, cheers.
Thanks very much Matt cheers
Best folding saw horses ever! I'm gonna borrow these for a video maybe. For sure give you credit. And I loved the nail trick. Get yourself some "End Nipper" Pliers for pulling nails. Makes it a breeze, have pulled thousands with em over the years. They use them when working on horse hooves too 👍
I have watched far too many videos on how to make saw horses, this is the design I'll use. Thank you!!!
I've also looked at a lot of folding Saw Horse videos. These are by far the easiest to follow and just made most sense. With the hinges that you've used as well. Brilliant idea to recess the horses into each other for smaller material and having them close allows saw cuts so the material does not buckle in the middle biting the saw. Most people do a single piece of wood at the top, but the double is fantastic. Thumbs up!
That nail trick seems V useful, deffo gonna be giving that a go!
I could say I’ve seen a ton of sawhorse build videos by now too, and this is the easiest and most lightweight (yet strong) version I’ve seen. Too bad I didn’t see this before my current tea break in the middle of building a pair myself. Too late now! 😂
I watched some other vids on how to build saw horse for beginners but they didn't tell me that I needed a workshop, 100x power tools and 20 years of experience lol. Your vid is awesome for beginners like me, i'm gonna get some pallet wood and get started as I need a pair of saw horses for my upcoming apartment renovation project. Thank you very much for spending time making instructional vids.
I have made a couple versions of folding saw horses. This is brilliant. Easy to build, sturdy, and did I mention easy to build. Thank you for the video.
As the tried and tested saying goes, ‘Say what you mean and mean what you say.’ Hats off to you sir.
made your folding saw horses couple of years ago and they are still super sturdy. Am making some new ones for the birthday of my son in law this week 😁👍
"...except I like to waste an hour of me time and save 50 pence."
Thank you for being real and sharing in the truth we all love and live.
Thanks Paul, just watched this again before putting a pair of these together myself, great video, I love your sense of humour !
Hoping all is good there Paul, missing your content !
Great saw horses! What a no nonsense, very likeable type of guy. Subbed 👍
Nice work. Always like ideas that has one working smarter, not harder. TY.
Inspired by this video, I made some for myself out of spare timber and old door hinges. Absolutely fantastic result - 2 off very sturdy saw horses , job done. Thanks.
Excellent, brief and to the point !!
5 years later and still relevant. Thank you.
I think I will.reduce mine to 15 degrees though. Not 22.5, giving a 30 degree opening, should be plenty and it will take up.less footprint when open.
Definitely going to a big wide top as well. Maybe a 2x6 on one side and 2x4 on the other. Will be nice to have a bit of a table top on a single sawhorse. Or even a 3/4" sacrificial top tacked on
Great video. I'm going to make a pair with the 2x4 scrap I have. Thanks so much for the post!
Thanks bud
Great work! Easy and simple build just what I was looking for Thank you!
VERY TRICKY TOO.......I like the idea of being able to push them together.......
Its inspiring me. I follow the saw horse guidance and its great
Nested saw horses, brilliant. All two often you need to work on something that's too short for typical saw horse spacing.
Nice one Sharpie!!!! Great stuff!!!
I have two saw horses, but I like your idea so I will now make them folding style. Thank you for the idea, and the video.
Good job man. I love the design, Thanks for sharing !!!
Made these today - super easy to construct and strong as houses! Cheers for the video 👍
+Philip O'Brien thanks for the support Philip and glad they worked out for you
You could also put your claw hammer on the nail shank and then bend the hammer side ways and keep sliding down and bending, the nail and any nail will come out,, also the chap in nail is good,, you can also use that theory on opening jars,, tighten the jar first before opening or tap the jar lid on the side then open,,, Cheers ;-)
This is exactly like listening to my dad do a project. The only thing missing is him slapping the top and saying "There you go. Just like a bought one!"
Thanx.. been trying to wrap my head around a simple sturdy folding saw horse for a week now. The plastic prefabricated ones you buy from the local Homer Depot or Doze’s are not only expensive but crap made and dangerous to boot. Thanks for the video 😜
+Fubar Snafu thank you for the nice comment
Este es uno de los mejores 2 que he visto a la fecha. VERY NICE!
"it's the floor - honest!" :) I really like that interlocking idea and folding means that combined they take up less room than my one saw-horse. Sweet!
+Mike Peacock hahaha it was the floor honest as for the chisels Mike if I was to do it again in would start with the bench grinder and finsh on the stone but 3 in 1 oil and soapy water seems to be the way to go
Great set of folding horses! Love the sentiment about wasting an hour to save 50p! Man after my own heart! lol
In lieu of door hinges and a strap, I made a step ladder a few years ago with a hinge you might find interesting for your next set of horses. Picture 2 sets of legs each as a pair of scissors, with a carriage bolt serving them as a pivot point near the top, with the joint 'lubricated' between the two legs by separating them with a couple of shop made washers made from milk jug plastic (HDPE). To keep from overtightening the nut and binding the hinge, add on a lock washer and second nut as a jam nut. The top of the first leg is angled as you have here, to accept the top rail. The top of the second leg is angled the other way, so that when it folds out, its top is parallel with the outer edge of the first leg. However, it doesn't extend all the way to that outer edge, but is about 3cm short. In that space (between the outer edge of the first and the top of the second), glue and screw a chunk of 3cm scrap to the first leg, to act as a stop for the second leg, preventing it from opening all the way as it fetches up against the stop.
(EDIT: And thinking this through a bit more, my ladder was made from wider stock. For this narrower size for a horse, there may not be room between the carriage bolt and the top of the second leg to cut it that short. Instead, you could extend the second leg all the way to the outer edge of the first leg, and the stop could double as a brace between the 2 sets of legs, not half-lapped, that extends past the leg and serves as a stop, allowing the second leg to fetch up against it.)
Make 2 of those scissor leg pairs, attach the top rail to the first leg (the one that's angled correctly and has the stop attached), add in your other half-lapped bracing to prevent it racking side to side (the carriage bolt hinge will do this somewhat, but better safe than sorry), and you have a horse that folds without hinges (just 2 carriage bolts), will take your weight (or the odd gorilla that happens by), won't overextend, and which doesn't need a strap because it uses a stop.
I'm no videographer, but would love to see your execution of that idea sometime! Love your work!
Good evening from Auckland, New Zealand...
these horses are brilliant - thanks a million Sharpey. Love your channel (I also adapted your freestanding workshop worktable design and sawdust vacuum (though my bucket was a bit weak and collapsed on me haha)) - all super well thought through and so clearly explained. thank you
AWESOME horseys! :)...Can't wait to make a few pairs...Horses are indispensable for we craftsmen...I must have used 100 or more of them over the last 3 decades...I''d be proud to carry a pair of those to a job! :)...Thanks for the upload!
By 'Eck, a Yurkshireman! Greetings from a homesick Brit expat!
Very good job. I liked it very much. I’ll try to do them as you show in the video
Very nice..I always need more and lighter saw horses..Great video! Thanks!
This is such a simple and functional design. I've watched quite a few videos on various sawhorse construction but decided to go with this design as it is so simple. I like the idea of attaching the top horizontal beam to the frame legs and just using plain old door hinges between the two sides. I might use a cross latch timber piece to swivel across to secure the legs instead of using the flexible ribbon tie (which is much simpler I admit) but apart from that these sawhorses are great just as they are and I'm looking forward to knocking a pair out next week. Cheers lad (ex Manchester lad here). Subscribed!
Thanks Russell much appreciated
A very good job ! Smart idea to make them fit together .
+George Karamolegos thanks George
For water proofing legs of horses, use empty 2 ltr soda containers. Cut tops off, then put legs in. Keeps wood from contacting the ground and rotting or inviting termites.
I like your projects made out of pallet wood. I will be building a work bench and will look into using pallet wood, we got plenty of it here. Thanks for posting and thumbs up!!
made these..... best saw horses ive had.... top Vid!!
I copied these today and I’m well chuffed thanks for the video!
That’s the best sawhorse video on the net. You’re a great teacher. I have been an aircraft fitter most of my life. Took my redundancy. Gonna try my hand at carpentry as a hobbie. Thanks for tips. God bless.
1:25 I burst out laughing.
This is exactly what lots of DIY is, it's the self-reliance that's rewarding. So relatable!
Great video! I based my saw horses off your design for my portable MFT table, made with 4x2. Works like a dream and solid!
+Sebastian Wells iam glad they worked out for you mate I wouldn't be without them now cheers
Very nice. I'm going to make similar but will extend the tops to overhang on all sides so I can clamp a length of wood sideways on it to skill saw along a length.
These are the best sawhorses I've seen so far. I really like the angled top, so that it's flat once they're open. You could even screw a layer of plywood on top of those and use it as sacrificial in case of cutting with circular saw. When it's too beaten up, it's just a cheap replace.
I think I'm going with your design, thanks man.
Clever idea that is the interlocking system. How many times have some of us had a a frame design and it just not quite close enough
Thanks James much appreciated
Thanks for sharing, Sharpey! Kind regards from Buin, Chile.
Absolutely genius! Will be building these this weekend! Subscribed!
Exactly what I was looking for. Quick and easy to make yet sturdy enough for a gorilla lol. Also with the price of lumber right now, which I’m very familiar with cuz Ima lumber yard boss, pallet wood is the perfect solution. Thanx for the video bud !
you have such a fantastic way about you - definately going to be watching more, thank you. You pretty damn clever too ;-)...and yes, i also love wasting time in my workshop as opposed to going shopping for a new piece!
Haha... love the no-effing-about-ness of your vids... they are a welcome antidote! :) :) "What's half of 29?" priceless!
Great idea....think I'll make myself 4 of them. Thanks
Thanks for the video, greetings from North Michigan, USA.
Просто и надёжно! Bravo 👌👍👍👏👏
Simplest design so far, effective and solid! Thanks for sharing.
Great vid, thank you so much. What are the lengths of the timber pieces please ??
Thanks for sharing Sharpey, very simple and cheap, I like the way you think ;) now I need to build a pair ;)
Brillant, seen half a doz vids about saw horses as I need a pair when we move home. Your type is the best by far, I'll be following your build soon. The inset legs idea, fab..makes the most sense.
Nice video and great sawhorses, thanks! Glad I've come across your channel, cheers.
+tonyf68 thank you tony
Favorite quote of the day!
"you could just buy a 3 x 2 but I like to waste an hour of my day and save £.50" lol!!
Cool trick in the nail removal.
+session telemetric thanks mate I just hate spending money lol
Here is another nail extraction method I use. If the nail is rusted and broken off at surface of wood. You can still get it out. I use what I call dentistry. It involves using a small diameter drill say 5mm depending on size of rusted nail. Drill all way around the nail very close to it. You'll find you can pull any nail no matter how rusted and close to surface it is. Pair of pliers once you drill all way around it.
Simple but yet the best
I appreciate you and your videos. Keep it up. I live in the U.S. and don't know how much 50p is? Can you please add the conversions to measurements/money. Thanks for the videos.
50p is 50 cents - or two quarters :)
Just came across of this one! Thanks a lot for sharing, gonna make a pair of these...
Smashing design, I'm off to make a pair. Brilliant video, thanks!
Cheers Bruce
Really pretty clever piece of work there. Loved the inset legs idea; one of those why-didn’t-I-think-of-that ideas that will haunt me. Thanks for showing us.
Can't believe the state of some of your tools!
Why what's wrong there well used as they should be , not like they've just come off the shop shelves..
Simply the Best ,I will make it ,thanks
The trick about the nails is a good one, never seen it before. But, should have, it's similar to what I do, to tight nuts or screws, when I'm trying to get them out, turn them to tighten first, then turn to loosen them, but don't forget the releasing fluid. Regards Geoff Maddison
Have to say that this method is the most enjoyable way I've seen to save 50 pence 😂. Love the interlocking method. I wish my shop bought cr@ppy ones did that. Nice one Sharpy ☺
+Stephen's 8x6 Workshop thanks Stephen sloting into each other was an afterthought but it has come in handy as for saving 50p I love saving money but in this one wish I'd just bought some 3x2 lol
Thanks! Functional and easy 👌
Love the sense of humour & no nonsense - just a great job! Must be a Yorky!!
Thanks George and yep sheffield lad
@@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP a de da lad uh, Wombwell here lol
George Drew great vid mate no nonsense practical and cheap
Brilliant idea of making one saw horse narrower to bring them closer if needed.
They worked out very well buddy I get some good use out of them
I like, no messing about I feel as if I can make these, we'll see, thank you, I like the tip about taking nails out.
Hi James glad you like it don't over complicate things and you'll be fine good luck bud
@@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP thank you
Great build m8! Do you have any measurements for this build please?

I made so big honkers - I call them sawstallions -betting they could support 1,000 lbs. I have some like yours as well
Thank you for that nail tip awesome!
Soak/Brush some white spirit liberally over the nail heads. You could have about two dozen to remove from a decent heavy duty frame of 3” x 4” and it’s usually a hard wood. Do all the sections and by the time you finish the spirit will have soaked in. Start with the the first length and smack each nail head in as you said. Then lever each nail out, but use a piece of scrap wood under the head of the hammer-to prevent bruising the wood and it givers extra leverage too. White spirit won’t stain the wood either but lubricates the nail.
Just found your channel, and I find these saw horses some of the best I have seen! Thanxz
Pure class. Subscribed
Nice job
Brains 🧠 gone ... lol.. 😂😂would love to work with this fella everyday ... smashing guy.
Thanks my friend! I liked very much your idea.
Super. I like this. Bravo
Super smart!... I will have to copy this style!!
Saved ten Bob "fifty pence every penny counts especially in times of AUSTERITY!.🌹✊🕊️🙏🇬🇧💎😎
Exelente, me gusto sencillo, practico....gracias 👍
Yorkshire lingo goes well with practical saw horse design.
Am new to you're channel, excellent video ,extremely well described, very detailed. Watched alot of wood work Video's and yours seemed to be the most realistic, natural and least technical. Thanks very much for the ideas, keep up the brilliant work. Am a beginner at the wood work stuff.
Great design and the interlocking idea was genius. Another fantastic video.
Well done mate 👍🏼
+Greg Virgoe thanks mate hope the vans going ok can't wait for next installment
Thanks Paul, struggling to fit everything in with working in London. So I've decided to take two weeks leave end of October to spend 16days solid on it and break the back of it.
The van will be parked next to the workshop and I'll pretty much live and work in it for a fortnight. Need to bottom out water heater for shower next.
+Greg Virgoe I know that feeling try redundancy money's crap but plenty of time lol but don't go rushing it mate that's how mistakes happen
The very best SHs conjured from scrap/pallet lumber......and they look as though they could be able to support a goodly load....
+emil dekoven thank you
I really like these, especially once you added the connecting strap - although if the knot gets wet will it change size and pull through? When I saw the thumbnail I thought these were the same as my sawhorses video but these are truly unique, and I like that these fold up and interlock!
Cheers muker just what I needed, a good laugh and a good design.
When you're pulling those nails use the claws of your hammer to bend the nails in the same manner you used the vise grip pliers. Insert nail in claw, bend to side, handle up, reposition in nail, bend over, repeat.
