Currents by Tame Impala is the perfect musical remedy for your post-break up depression. It’s title suitably acknowledges the notion of movement, going with the flow and pushing forward. But in that same breath, conjuring up personal sentiments relating to water -- a flood of emotions, a stream of consciousness, a wave of discomfort. Kevin Parker’s third studio record arrived following his break up with then girlfriend, Melody Prochet and has him searching for the meaning of that experience and of this loss. It carries a complete outpouring of despair while presenting a positive glint of hope for the future. Giving the listener a new perspective in how to process and heal from the end of their own relationship.

Let It Happen is one of the BEST songs ever made
ONE OF THE BEST EVER MADE. we are lucky.
It seriously is. Such a unique song and when the climax of the song hits with that dirty guitar riff at the end... amazing.
It truly is one of the great musical masterpieces of our time
This whole album is full of gems though. Then again, I've never heard a bad Tame Impala song.
The bass section at the end always gets me
How did you decide on breaking down the acts? Cuz the tracklist is shuffled around but the way you broke it down makes so much sense
Went through the whole album pulling the main themes from all of them and then organized them by what I thought would be the stages of a break up

I feel sorry for the people who only know tame impala as "The Less I know the better" and not how that song fits into the whole album and what Kevin was going through when he wrote it
I guess in this situation the less they know isn't better after all.
the less i know is my most favorite song to exist. but its sad people dont know its a minuscule part of this bigger great thing.
I got introduced to tame through that song but i started liking his other albums
I feel sorry for people who happen to know Currents but still have no idea about Lonerism.
That's how I got into Tame Impala honestly, after listening to the lyrics of the song closely I had to check out what the whole album was about.
Call me dumb but Currents is one of my favorite albums and I had no idea it was a breakup album. I just get too caught up in the music and singing along that I never took the time to LISTEN listen to the lyrics. I have a renewed love for Kevin Parker. Excellent video Middle 8 😊

I just found out that it was a break up album because of this video too
I don't think the album is that transparent with the breakup theme. I mean, ok, if we take a close look at the lyrics, yes. But in general and music-wise, the mood is too inconsistent and doesn't resonate with a heartbreak. For me, an ideal breakup album is Melody's Echo Chamber's debut.

It's amazing how much this albums touches metaphysically and explorers the different sides of our conscious thoughts and experiences.
Went through a divorce when this album was released, played it nonstop especially Love/Paranoia

That'd be awesome, Innerspeaker is almost a little underappreciated in Tame's discography, would be a great way to get it more recognition!
i like to think that some of the lyrics also link to lonerism.. that album was about his social anxiety and some of the lyrics and songs on currents.. let it happen, the moment, taxis here, npsom can also be him trying to get out of his comfort zone and be more confident. there’s quite a few interpretations
I refuse the hours and years gone since this album came out but time is an utter punch to the gut when it hits hard. I remember being in my first relationship when this released and I soon started to see things to where we were just friends and something less of an actual relationship, she also agreed that it would be best to just be normal friends with how our lives were going in different ways and all I can hope for that she’s doing great and has found a calling.

Currents helped me so much when I was in high school, and the girl I loved for all 4 years and I slowly drifted apart. We never dated or whatever, she always said she loved me but I was a best friend (which I really was), and she didn't want to risk losing such a great friend by having a failed relationship.
The album helped me cope with losing my everything and accepting it, and then I met me current girlfriend and now almost 5 years later, I couldn't be happier. Tame is still one of my favourites artists ever, and his latest album is another banger. God bless Kevin Parker.
your videos always leave me having a deeper appreciation for artists and albums. I love Currents but this video made me want to listen to it again with a fresh perspective.
Dude i actually interpreted this entire album in a different way... I think the album is more so about letting love in rather than falling out of it. Yeah, in the middle of the album, he goes through the break-up in "Eventually" and "Yes, I'm Changing" but the beginning half of the album is him trying to convince himself to allow himself to become vulnerable to letting himself fall in love with someone. That's why in "Let it Happen", he says things that alude to him to just "Let it happen" instead of trying to fight it. Then eventually, when he finally does let himself catch feelings, he begins to feel the side-effects of a relationship (overthinking, trust issues, etc.) as referenced in "Love/Paranoia". Then by the end of the album, he has finally allowed himself to sucomd to love but feels he still latches onto his old ways "New Person, Same old Mistakes."
Having the sound currents in the background reacting to the audio of the songs was a nice touch. Absolutely killer graphics on this! and everything else of course!

once in a while i return to this album and hear it and view it in different perspective, its a timeless album .
Great video, as always! On the same topic of break-up albums, there's one more that doesn't get enough credit - "The Colour in Anything" by James Blake. From my perspective, even more than "Currents", it dives into the complex emotions of partners trying to move on, reflecting on their past relationship, depression and eventually trying to find yourself in the maze of love.
Will be glad to know your opinion about this one.
This album came out when I needed it most. Honestly saved me during a rough time.
i really almost cried watching this. my recent breakup didn't end the same way it did for Kevin, but listening to this felt like it hit close to home for me and how i've been feeling the past 2 months. if anyone will help me through this, it's tame impala

Speaking of break up albums, would you touch on any particular James Blake album if you haven’t yet? He also had an interesting journey as his music reflects it closely. Worth a shot!
I always knew that album was about him breaking up but i never really payed attention to the lyrics. However, I promised myself that I would listen to it if my relationship would end. Turns out, I broke up with my girlfriend this week. Well, you just literally helped me understand that album and my breakup better.

Discovered this album right after a shattering breakup. Nearly 4 years later and I'm still shook, and still in love with this album.

Listening to b-sides for the first time since the slow rush release and it's almost like a transit ep between currents and TSR. So many common threads between the two

Lonerism was always my favourite album by Kevin, but ever since I've been going through a break-up (still not over it) I've had Currents in heavy rotation and now it's become my new dearest
My girlfriend and I were going through a super rough patch near the end of 2018 and this song was pretty much on repeat for a month or two while we were working things out. Such a beautiful album that let's you work through the pain you're feeling but knowing that it will get better, even if the relationship doesn't last. One of my favorite albums ever
