meeting up with Mr Baldr ?
Oh man Greece 🇬🇷 I can’t wait. Love when you are there 😊
Gabriel, in German speaking world the word "orientalisch" means almost exclusively something from the Middle East while in English "oriental" it mostly means from the Far East (as English Empire was bigger and had more colonies). In the 19th century, some German romantic poets and kings (like Ludwig II of Bavaria with his amazing castles) were so much fans of orientalism that they dedicated whole rooms or even buildings (like Maurischer Kiosk Linderhof and Marokkanisches Haus by Ludwig II of Bavaria) to this part of the world. Another world for Orient in German is Morgenland (morning land), the opposite to Abendland (evening land) in the West (Occident). For the Far East, in German it is mostly used the world "asiatisch" (Asiatic, Asian).
That explains it.
It really does, as I was quite puzzled what would be considered oriental if not the Middle East (which is usually referred to as "Näher Osten" - Nearby East in German - to shift perspectives again).
So interesting! Thank you
Yes, the same even in Czech, which kind of makes sense because of close distance do Austria and Germany and beying part of their empires. For example when people are doing "oriental dances" it almost always means some "belly dances" from middle east. And middle east is called "near east" in Czech, the same as in German.
@@Pidalin , the same in my mother tongue, Slovenian. Clear evidence of German historic influence in the region that is coined in the local language.
Hi Gabriel, a nice quick stopover in Vienna, it's a wonderful vibrant city. It's time to head back to Greece and relax and kick back and have a couple of ouzos and moussakas. The Greeks are waiting for you Yasou.

Note how clean Vienna is, such a great place.
Not that clean, I've been there in 2021, like yes, you don't see trash in streets (mostly), but that amount of stickers and graffiti everywhere is extreme + their riverside in center looks like a sewer 🙂

Hi Gabriel! Hope to see your Bratislava/Slovakia video in the future.
I am going to Bratislava on Saturday and then to the Tatra mountains. Strbske Pleso. I wish I met you there.

Its Easter in Greece this weekend. One of the best times to be in Greece. Enjoy
Definitely but be prepared for quite a few holidays. Holy Friday, Sunday, Monday and even Tuesday this year (delayed celebration of 1st May. That means many shops and supermarkets closed, some restaurants also, especially in big cities and less transportation options… Anyways, we’ll be available to help…
In Greece do not miss Easter festivities, especially the epitafios Friday and Anastasis saturday. Also this time you might enjoy in athens renting a car and visiting the southern parts of athens: glyfada, vouliagmeni, Varkiza , thePoseidon temple in sounio, lavrio
Love the sights you have shown so far. However Im really looking forward to being back in Greece with you through UA-cam😊 Cheers.
Yes another excellent city tour, always very good to see up front.
OK, maybe even nicer time to go to Slovakia and its cooling mountains after it becomes too hot and crowded in Mediterranean. Some cable cars and chair lifts don't work yet in High Tatras (like from Tatranska Lomnica/Skalnate Pleso to Lomnicky Štit, I see it on the Gopass site, it is this time just after the end of the skiing season) but they will in June.
Brno is too good to miss it! Trust me, very good vibes.

Nice view of Vienna. Unedited videos are more interesting and no tiring editing work for you
While I completely get going to Greece, I mean it is the perfect time of year avoiding the heat of july and august, for me at least it makes for a bit less interesting video content. Its all a bit samey... at least, thats assuming you go to the islands. What I liked about the Czech series is that it actually taught me a few things and really inspired me to travel there myself. Maybe if it works out you can show more of the mainlaind of Greece again, some less traveled places up in the mountains or something. Im sure the weather will be nice there too, and a lot more interesting that another island video. Im sure there are big differences beween islands though so maybe Im wrong! And Im sure the bright light, blue skies and sea will help wth very nice video quality.
yeah but central and eastern europe are boring, i stop watching until he gets to more interesting parts of the world
@@FSVR54 Well Gabriel sailing down the Congo on a raft would be more interesting, sure, but I really liked the Czech series.
@@ageoflove1980 My point is the Mediterranean is way better than northern stuff
@@ageoflove1980 1000 times to Greece is better than two times to Czech republic
@@FSVR54 Well to you maybe, which is completely fair. Over here in The Netherlands, Greece is a bog standard summer vacation destination with many cheap package holiday options. Like 1 million Dutchies go there every year, thats like more than 5% of the entire population heh. Now having said that, Gabriel does always know how to make it somewhat interesting by island hopping and whatnot, but for us its about as standard as holidays get. Sure nice to do, but less interesting to watch somebody else do it.
Great video thanks 🎉

Alright, let's go down to Greece!
Tired of Greece!
17:27 In Portugal, we also call it "Medio Oriente", roughly translated "Middle Oriental". I guess that for us it also doesn't make sense to call "midwest" to some US states that are clearly on the East 😂😂. Thanks for the video, Gabe. Vienna seems really worth to visit.
Howdy Gabriel.
Craig the keen Eagle eyed Statistician, noticed something about the book.
Theres a list as long as your arm of Greek islands yet to be explored.
Good speed!
Waw, nice to see Wenen. It changed. Was there in 1991. Great job Gabriel! Keep on filming!
I've been to Vienna a couple of times and never really fell in love with it. Always thought it was a bit overrated, much prefer the mountainous side of Austria.
I've been living here all my life and i could not agree with you more. Yes, there are a few nice streets and a handful of biutiful buildings, but compared to other old cities it just has nothing special about it, even the old structures have no style, very boring, very, very bland. And yes, WWII is mostly responsible but well, not entirely. Once you leave the expansive districts, it gets absurdly ugly really quick and gentrification did the rest, made the cool, historic as in lived in spots and places look like everywhere else and only suitable for this bobo like class, _easy to clean and maintain_ so to speak....hey, that should be the citie's motto.
@@lowandodor1150 exactly. I live here 8 years already, its boring, it has no character, like copies here there from every place on earth. I visited Prague recently, it was way more beautiful und mysterious, defenetly has its own charm. Also visited Paris und St.Petersburg both very unique
@@IX-fc4po I adore Paris. I love St.Petersburg. Where are you from? I hardly leave my room it's so ugly and boring here, i hate it, i would leave this place in an instant if i had some money, that much i know.
Beautiful
Sigmund Freud was born in Moravia in the city of Příbor, Czech Republic.
Nice!
What a change in Vienna than Prague in terms of Tourists!
Prague is home to 1.3 million people and vienna is home to 1.9m so Vienna is bigger and busier
More vibrant and active city than Prague. More young people too. Could the cool, cloudy spring weather in the Czech Republic have affected activity?
The center of Prague is very touristy, I would say too much. Vienna has these areas more intermixed with normal business areas. So it looks more like a normal city and not like an open air museum.
its just less populated, but is more unique and has its own charm. Vienna is actually a boring place, nothing special, no character
Living my life😊
The bicycle rickshaws in Vienna, Austria are just like in some Asian cities quite surprising...of course I had seen handpulled rickshaws in NYC years back
I like that too, very nice.
Still struggling with Budejovice pronunciation 😂😂
Gabe - Speaking of Greece; you might consider the Northern islands of Thassos, Lemnos and Samothraki that I don't believe you've been to.
Speaking of islands and I know off topic; I just returned from the Philippines island of Boracay which i know you considered. I think next time you're in the area you should check it out. I believe you'll like it. Thanks.

Makes sense to go to Greece from Vienna before summer crowds make Greece too crowded and hot.
The Ankeruhr, btw, plays a piece of music at every full hour.
I would love to catch a glimpse of Bratislava if you can manage in time and yes Siegmund Freud considered to be the father of Psychoanalysis was a native of Vienna, Austria and like Karl Marx, Freud moved to London, UK
Fun fact, Freud was also the father of 5 illegitimate children

Cool. 😎
Sigmund Freud wasn't actually a native of Austria, he was born in Czechia to a German-speaking Jewish family that came from what is today Eastern Poland/Western Ukraine.
Freud was born in Grodno Belarus
@@DeputyDog-mh1yo No, he was born in Příbor, Czechia

Good night Vienna … we’re moving on 😊
👍👍💯💯❤❤
Oh about Asia... it is actually the old Greek name for Anatolia, the main part of modern day Turkey. So it actually does really mean that general region. The word Asia has nothing to do with China or Japan for example, its just the name Western colonizers and explorers gave to broadly everything east of Europe as they kept going. So calling a person from for example China "Asian" is almost just as weird as calling a native American an "Indian" when you really think about it.
Makes sense.
Yet, Chinese are Asians as are Japanese
Love the videos. But so disappointed you are not exploring the real Slovakia when all its beauty other than the bratislava is there .seen greece so many times in your videos .I hope you go back to low and high tatras in Slovakia soon.

@@czabatrans4420 Too much Greece, too much India.
@@DeputyDog-mh1yoyes it’s always Greece and India, I don’t understand. Gabriel could hold off for a week or two and explore new destinations such as Slovakia and Poland. Every European goes to Greece, they know the place. It’s like an American goes to Hawaii.
@@czabatrans4420, exactly. He was in Greece last year for more than a month and his 90 days in Schengen Zone in 180 days were expiring too quick because of that. His rushing through Austria and Hungary last year (on the way from Switzerland to Romania, with as less time as possible) was simply hillarious. I am also tired of videos mostly from India, Greece and Thailand. But OK, India and Thailand are not affecting anything like 90 days in Schengen in 180 days and some other restrictions just like it is in the case of Greece ... Gabriel still has much to explore in amazing European countries like Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Denmark, Sweden, Norway where he couldn't go yet due to time limits because his priorities are in the Mediterranean. And New Zealand, South America and South Africa in other parts of the world are also missed.
Yeah Bratislava in the movie Euro Tour
I also agree with you the far east Asian countries like Japan and China would be considered Oriental instead of Middle Eastern countries like Israel or Jordan
German language is simply different than English ...
Debbi, Spanish is different than Romanian
Even Morocco is considered Orient, Syria, Iraq, everywhere there is a Bazaar and bellydancers, for Austrians, that is the Orient, kapeesh?

Hi Gabriel! Are you gonna be buying a new bicycle from Monastiraki in Athens again?
Probably not, I can pick up my other bicycle that I bought last year, as I explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/DDNNzbC0iHg/v-deo.html
This city has no character
I visited Vienna in 2021 and honestly, I didn't like it there. Maybe it was due to terrible covid restrictions and filling papers everywhere and nobody was helping in English, everyone was speaking just German to you + very bad weather, but I don't think it was only about that. When we left our train, first thing I notived were those terrible 90s-like sidewalks with tree roots under it, we had these in Prague when I was kid, so it was very retro feeling for me, I didn't expect this ins Vienna which is the city always use as a good example of how to do things and how it should be, but I don't think so, it looks already better here. For example how they treat historical sights is a heresy from Czech point of view, our sight keepers would never allow such things like put some ugly 90s structures to the gothic cathedral or make a giand hole to underground next to it, or build a giant cube next to some 18th century building and such weird things, it was kind of shock for me, Vienna looked like architectural anarchy to me + their river side in center looks like a sewer compared to very nice chill zone in center of Prague.
I am not saying there is nothing bad in Prague, but I see that massive improvement in last 20 years, Vienna still looks like in those 90s TV shows like Komissar Rex. 😀
Some people from Austria told me that they kind of agree and Vienna is like different country in their country and I was supposed to visit other places, but people say this about capital city probably in all countries. 🙂 I've been there with my father and we both had this same feeling and we left 2 days earlier than it was planned, it was probably the most wasted vacation I ever had in my life. 😀
2:56 - This is that hole I was talking about, it's a bizzare for a Czech person, people would glue themselves to the ground if someone wanted to do something like that next to gothic cathedral and preservationists and other officials who manage what you can do with historical places would not allow that anyway, Vienna is not what people expect, if you want to see actual historical place, Vienna is not that place. I understand it was very bombed in WWII, but look at Warsaw, they rebuilt everything and you barely recognize it's built again after 1945. Don't take me wrong, I don't want to turn cities into open space museums and ban everything new, but it should be somehow balanced and what I saw in Vienna was just disrespect for their history, which is weird when you consider their important and famous history. Eeach street I stepped in in Vienna, there was some big WTF moment. 😀
What was very shocking for me in Vienna is that it looks more communist then Czech cities even when they had soviet rule just for 10 years after 1945, maybe not even 10 years, but still, you see very socialist looking buildings with very similar paintings, I am not sure if it's not actually older from nazi time, but you know, these regimes were using the same pictures - farmers, workers, happy white people doing their work, you see these paintings on buildings very often in Vienna, which was a surprise for me, so it looks more communist than Prague for example + they also have terrible 90s architecture everywhere, but I think they had this type of architecture earlier than we, maybe it was built already in 80s, I am not sure. And no, I am not talking about "brutalist" architecture, I mean these super ugly 90s buildings lik you can see for example in 6:00 - we also have them and it's a shame, but that amount of them in Vienna and in historical places especially really shocked me.
You're a guy who likes to complain
Ahhh, finally someone who's senses work as intended, with a mind for real beauty and charm. Vienna is pathetic! I lived here all my life and while there are a few nice buildings and certain somewhat decent areas, except for the tiny 1st district which is 100% for the Tourists, the rest really is stuck in the 90s.
One thing we have to take into account though is the massive destruction of WWII but not all the abominations can be blamed on the allied bombs, no, modern architecture and city planning, all those people responsible ought to be in prison for life, what they have done and still do to this city is nothing short of murder.
I used to laugh out loud when ever those awkward "Most liveable city" or whatever they are called "awards" were published and Vienna would either win or be among the top 3, hahaha, i was like "So you have obviously never been to _______
