9:07 - revolution happened already in 1989, Czechoslovakia was not communist between 1990-1992
It can be pretty confusing for foreigners:
ČSR (1918-WWII) = original Czechoslovakia (capitalist), there was also second republic, third republic and protectorate, but that would be too complicated
ČSR (1948-1960) = Czechoslovak Republic, already communist, but they still didn't change the name
ČSSR (1960-1989) = Czechoslovak Socialist Republic
ČSFR (1990-1992) = Czech and Slovak Federative Republic (we were not able to even agree on name of the country, that's why it's not officially called Czechoslovakia, but Czech and Slovak Federative Republic, Slovaks wanted to get rid of name Czechoslovakia)
    ČR (since 1993)
    SR (since 1993)
13:00 - no, ticket in Czech is not "seto" or something, I have no idea what she was trying to say, maybe she was trying to say something in German or Russian because these are the most often tourist nations in Karlsbad, at least before war in Ukraine.
Ticket (like for concert) is vstupenka
ticket for public transportation (generally) is jízdenka
sometimes you can say lístek in common Czech as universal word for all tickets
and ticket for airplain is letenka, no ceto or seto or something, I have no idea what she meant. 🙂

Karlovy Vary are most busiest during the International Film Festival that is hosting a lot of Hollywood stars. I was there in 2005 for the Premiere of Broken Flowers directed by Jim Jarmusch and I met L.Q. Jones in the corridors of my hotel smoking cigar. Also Sharon Stone was there as a guest at the festival and she was walking around with her sister on the same streets like you.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos , the same name Sanssouci is for the palace of Frederick the Great of Prussia in Potsdam, Brandenburg near Berlin, also nice palace. Swahili translation for "without worries" is, of course, hakuna matata (popularised in The Lion King). ;) In the 18th century, the posh language of nobility was mainly French in the Northern Europe, that's why some names like sans souci are borrowed from there.

Amazing hotel deal there. Thats a solid breakfast! And stunning location! Oh and Sanssouci (pronounced somewhat like San Suzy) might be a nod to the royal palace of the Pruissian king Frederick the Great in Potsdam near Berlin with the same name, which means carefree in French. French was of course the "fancy" language to use in royal circles back then. Karlovy Vary was of course pretty much German for most of its history, being part of Sudeten, a part of Bohemia with a mostly German speaking population that got displaced after WWII.

  • @Ojstra

Great and picturesque, one of the best spa towns worldwide, setting of the prominent film festival and also many films were shot there (for instance, Grandhotel Pupp is named Hotel Splendide in Casino Royale, James Bond). Prior to WW2, Sudeten Germans were majority there, before Czechoslovakia was Austria-Hungary (with Austrian aristocracy loving spa culture), that's why there are still many German elements. Carlsbad spa wafer is amazing desert with many different possible tastes, Becherovka (introduced 1807 in Karlovy Vary by Josef Vitus Becher) amazing herbal liqueur, there are many hot springs with very different mineral water, so much to see and taste there.

If you got time on your hands while still in Karlovy Vary, you could visit the town of Loket thats like 20 minut car drive from you. It's often compared to Český Krumlov, since its also a town on river bend, has huge castle and beautiful historical core, it can't really be compared to Český Krumlov imo, but that also means less tourists.
If you are going to Český Krumlov after and plan to go to Brno (east), there are many beutiful towns on the way, try to stop in Jindřichův Hradec, Telč, Znojmo and Mikulov.
Or if you are gonna go the northern route and want something else, you could go to some of the "rock towns" as we call them, they are very unique rock formations specific for Czechia: České Švýcarsko, Kokořínsko, Český ráj (my favorite, rocks with the biggest concetration of various castles and medieval sights, translation is literally "czech paradise") and Adršpašsko-teplické skály.

in case you'll decide to go to Germany, don't forget to visit good ol' Heidelberg with the longest pedestrian zone in Europe and, for sure, the famous😅 Heidelberg castle. in spring time should not be that crowded. and - a gem in the world, Hotel Europäischer Hof in Heidelberg. One of the few 5-star-hotels worldwide, run by a family since some 100 years. The - now - boss, Caroline von Kretschmann would surely be delighted to do a video with famous Gabriel traveler😘. btw, I'm not getting paid for this post, just was there last year and was smitten by the whole atmosphere and service which can easily compete with any Karlovy Vary Hotel
