Wish I saw this comment before going out and buying the spacer kit for $16, and the better than wax for $10... shouldve checked before the hardware store run, oh well!
My mother called a local plumber and they quoted her $3,500 to fix exactly this. She also needed a new flapper valve and they said they only sell the whole kits and that would be another $400.00. They tried taking from a woman that is on a fixed income and have no conscience. She also had to pay a $85.00 fee for even coming out here and they didn't even take the toilet off. Talk about me being super mad. Such shady people in this evil world we live in. Thanks for the advice!
Hopefully those bolts don't spin or they'll come right out. Notice those slots aren't tapered because that spacer isnt designed to actual hold the toilet so the bolts should actually go in the original flange but yours is broke anyway so it defeats the purpose. You should've put washers on the underside and put the bolts through the spacer before you installed it on the flange, that way even if it spins a little it can't pull back through the slot.
Thank you and solid advice, I did end up actually adding washers to the bottom. As you mentioned, there was movement when I was tightening the bolts so ended up with wider/larger washers I added on the bottom and used the smaller supplied washer/nut on top.
Question - when you screwed the flange spacer down, did you screw it to the original flange or directly to the subfloor (or through the original flange to the subfloor)?
A mix of what your asking but screws were long enough for all to hit the subfloor. IIRC 2 holes lined up with original flange screw holes, if they didn't, I sent the screw through the original flange into the subfloor. I accounted for the thickness of both flanges and my subfloor thickness when I picked up new screws. Also recommended Stainless or galvanized screws.
For sure, it is pretty poorly done. Also where there is grout it looks like they had too much water in the mix as it shrunk alot. So far I'm unimpressed with quality of work from the previous homeowner. But it will all get ripped out during the bathroom remodel.
Very helpful. I'm a reasonably handy DIY guy but never ran into this before and it looks like you've got a good solution here. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Exactly what I’m trying to do today. Thanks for the guidance
No prob, glad it helped!
Super helpful video, just what I was looking for to address our exact situation, thanks for posting.
Thanks, glad it was helpful!
Better than wax comes with a black foam extension for these scenarios.

I don't use wax rings anymore. Better than Wax works great!
Maybe will give their products another visit.

No problem
This happened to me. I ended up cutting the flange out and replacing it.
Yeah, I will likely replace the flange as well whenever I remodel this bathroom. I want to move the location of the toilet as well.
gloves!
That tile job is a mess. I don’t even see grout
