Mary queen of Scots escape from prison at Loch Leven is a key part of the Mary queen of Scots story. Once Coronavirus is over why not plan a day out in Scotland. There are many historic days out in Scotland to find out about Mary Queen of Scots, but Mary Queen of Scots and Loch Leven gives you a boat trip and a castle all in one. In the meantime have a Scottish history holiday during the coronavirus with a virtual history tour.

Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As one of Scotland history tour guides people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation of your from the US. So from April 2020 I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.
Here are three ways you can help me make more video productions. Just click the link www.scotlandhistorytours.co.uk/support
In the 50s and 60s I was too busy studying the South Sea Bubble and the Repeal of the Corn Laws to learn anything interesting about my own country. In 2050 the date when the Covid Era ends I will be 100 years old and boring my many great grandchildren with real tales of Elvis and the Beatles. Are you, by any chance, Neil Oliver who has put on a bit of weight? Why Mary ,Queen of Scots rather than Queen of Scotland? is this some kind of protocol? Same with Robert the Bruce king of the Scots, Genuine question.
This video is such a treat. An American who is obsessed with Mary, Queen of Scots.
I'm glad you enjoyed. I've got a few on Mary Queen of Scots and I'm sure I'll do more ua-cam.com/play/PLfJ_hYioDtXRlqGlMR51Jn_P6s8J9lhoB.html
I am a sassanach obsessed with Mary Queen of Scots x
@@catherinegamaleldin2739
Please don't brag about that
I have only heard the trrm used as "%@#&*%=#@! Sassanach!"
It is Not a term of endearment.
@@kathleenferguson3296 I lived in Scotland for 2 years lol, I'm fully aware. 😂 #OutlanderFan
Have you seen wee Mary’s peep hole on the wall at Stirling Castle? She wasn’t tall enough to see over the wall so a hole was bored through the wall so she could see out.
Mary's death mask hangs at the entrance to the Chapel at Falkland Palace. I found it fascinating
So beautiful! The splashes of yellow are breathtaking! Thank you for a lovely walk and a stimulating story.
Those are the gorse bushes or as Bruce called them whins, spiky and jabby, but have such a rich aroma.
Highly recommend a tour with Bruce. Cannot wait to book one again once I can travel again.
You're a sweetie
Tutbury castle is about a mile from us where Mary was imprisoned and where the Babington plot happened. Scottish history is everywhere 🙂
You are definitely a story teller. Love listening to you.🤗
I know right ?! For a comedian
What a singular treat. This channel is excellent. Respect.
Hi again Bruce. I’ve got sucked into your stories and am thoroughly enjoying them. And, you are right, your home country is truly beautiful and steeped in history. I hope you have a good day. 🌞
I'm American... Only just coming off a British viewpoint study of Mary's life.
I cannot wait to deep dive the Scottish perspective. You're my first stop ❤
This would be great for STV - a mix of Tom Weir and Paul Murton with a wee bit of Simon Schama. Congratulations on getting those lovely hot, sunny Scottish days that no one outside Scotland knows about.
It's funny, but two of my favourite people, who narrate history in an interesting way, happen to be Scottish. Thank you Bruce for putting a smile on my face and expanding my knowledge of the history of Scotland.
You're welcome
I never tire of watching your videos and learning! Very enjoyable as well as informative. Thank you.
I love the way you tell the wonderful stories of Scotland
Cheers Alan
I am from the States. I am so glad I stumbled across your channel! I love European history and the real history is so much better than what they show/distort in the movies. I'm about to binge watch as many videos as I can. :)
Thanks Bruce, interesting, captivating with an added touch of humour. Looking forward to your next one 👍
You are kind and gracious. See you at 9am tomorrow. NO LATECOMMERS!
This was exceptional! Loved the walk around!!
Delighted you enjoyed it. This is where I live
Great story. I got hold of a print, an older o e called Mary Queen of Scots over the dying Douglas. Somehow over the years I lost it. I had this sinking feeling the Douglas in your story was going to die and was the subject of my print. Mary was beautiful. Sad life.
I’m late to this video but doesn’t change the fact this is great. I loved this story. I enjoy clicking your channel and just scrolling and clicking random videos. Every single one is such a treat.
What a fantastic storyteller! Thank you for the day out recommendation too ☺️
You use humor to tell great history. Thank you-- do you have stories about when Mary married and spent time in France?
No. My hope is that if the channel generates enough revenue, I'll spend it on travelling to France to tell some of the stories of Scots in France
@@ScotlandHistoryTours I sure do hope you get to do just that!
Would be lovely to do another tour as Rhona and I thoroughly enjoyed the 'MacBeth without the bollocks'
tour. Another great video Bruce, thanks so much looking forward to the next episode of Scotland History Tours 💕
Thanks for your support June. Keep spreading the word. Hopefully enough people will enjoy for it to become sustainable
May 2nd is my birthday.
What a nice way to celebrate the morning is hearing a Scotsman telling us the history of Queen Mary( The real Queen) on my birthday.
😂😂
My daughter's birthday is May 2nd as well. Better hearing of Mary Queen of Scots than celebrating the Hudson's Bay Company birthday
Thanks for all the little back spots and the view!
Great video as always. We first took the boat ride to the castle on a cold, rainy day in 2013, nearly froze to death on the boat but well worth it, was a fantastic day, but remember your big jacket
Aye, ye get guid weather an a'
Absolutely magnificent view
We had Mary imprisoned a mile from our house at Tutbury Castle Staffordshire. The Babbington plot was based around her here and helped lead to her execution.
OK Bruce, In the summer of 1967 I went on a school trip to Bolton Castle in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. I was informed that Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in Bolton Castle from July 1568 until January 1569.
OK
Such great information. Visiting Scotland 🏴 is definitely on my bucket list! 🥰
Yay
Och...I just love yer wee shows, 👍🏴😎

Discovered your videos today and they are fabulous! If you find yourself in Path of Condie you are more that welcome to stop over for a refreshment. Thanks for the videos!
I pass from time to time between here and Kinross. You never know
Dreich day at the seaside, found one of your videos and have spent the afternoon with ya. Found my first two hammered coins in Milnathort. Just gotta love Scottish History.
Ah, that gives me such a buzz, thinking that my daft wee videos cheer up a day. The weather was nice here
Lovely telling of the story

Aye, a lovely wee spot, and it's been my daily walk this last few weeks
a good video, even if I only understood a few sentences.
a beautiful landscape and great sunshine.

Used to walk fae Dollar, across the Ochils tae Auchterarder, Blackford and Glen Eagles when I was wee. We also went tae loch Leven castle, and walked tae the Witches Monument near Dunning, I think it was on our way to a raspberry farm near there
Love this. What would have happened to Mary had she not gone to England? I wanna know more about the witch you mentioned.
Ladty Douglas? Now that does make me think. Telling stories from the point of view of an unexpected person involved
@@ScotlandHistoryTours That would be very interesting.
awesome! totally awesome
Glad you think so!
Extremely entertaining story. Mary was definitely a hot mess. But I always have to cheer her on anyway. Somebody brought Scotch Broom to the USA, so it's an invasive species, and it's EVERYWHERE. Terrible allergen. Anyway, thanks again! I'm so glad we weren't confined to home during COVID. Whew.
I so want to go on a tour with u as the guide,i lurn so much from you, thank you sweet man.
Haha. Maybe once the COVID is over eh?

The closest were the videos at Ardtornish castle. Also on the Patreon extra the drive to Ardtornish Castle takes us near there
lovely place loch leven went to Kinross on holiday was about eight or nine, remember wondering why she just didnt swim looked doable, and my dad found out that this was because their are deadly eddies in the loch

Awesome video mate. Is that a NZ Highlanders rugby shirt I see?
Yeah man, if you're a Scotsman is going to pick a Super Rugby team who else would he chose. For three years I performed at The Dunedin Fringe and got to see some games as a local. Thanks for your support

I don't agree with everything you say Bruce but would love the chance to speak to you face to face as love your videos. If you're ever in the Highlands near Golspie, I'd be glad to have coffee with you :)

Great video, but what happened to Willie Douglas?
ua-cam.com/video/oUi3-_hzguw/v-deo.html He gets a mention in this one if I remember
The level of trolling on the ridiculousness on the virus and not going out is great. I'm from Balingary. Now in the states. I use to walk up the hill over Mary queen of scots Bridge where she is said to have passed. I'll be walking up there in 2 weeks when I visit home
Very informative. Loving your videos. Thank you very much x
Thanks so much. I'll have to do some more on Mary
@@ScotlandHistoryTours oh I would love that. Do you do a MQS tour(s)?
Well I had in mind to put something together before COVID changed our lives. To be fair I think easing out will be very personalised tours. I'm not sure when normality returns
Nice Highlanders top
Bruce it is now November of 2022 and only 12 in my parish have had it. No one died!
I turned on automatic subtitles at the end just to see what it would say to the outro. I got "How many daughters can be allowed my life? Chili and Asthma"
We call it Scotch broom. It goes crazy here and folks with allergies hate it.

That's quite a thumbnail image
I know😁
You mention the French so much in your videos, how about a video on the influence of the French on Scottish history?
Is this the woman named bloody Mary in history?
No. Bloody Mary was the daughter of Henry VIII and Queen of England before Elizabeth
"Hands too nice for washing"??? That ranks right up there with MA & KL 16 (dressed as peasants) on their way to Varennes and Marie decides (figuratively) to 'pull over' to put on perfume 😆 😆!!
All joking aside, though ....do you think that if either of Marie's parent's would have lived longer or if she'd had better people around her throughout her life....do you think her life would have had a better outcome?
Why was Mary queen of scots imprisoned?
Political expediency
Love the videos, i have one question... was Mary Queen of Scot, really that much of a looker that, all or most of the men in her life fell in love or at least infatuated with her?
Was she that beautiful of a woman?
Everyone finds a queen charming, no?
@@ScotlandHistoryTours i imagine so, i have always liked history, but for some reason when i watched the series " REIGN " got me really interested in Scottish history, in particular Mary Queen of Scot. Was she so attractive that men just fell for her?
Let's face it, the actress that plays Mary Queen of Scots in "Reign" is one of the most attractive women on Netflex, and she was beautiful playing Jamie's sister on "Outlander" as well.
Based on portrays she was much more attractive than her cousin Queen Elizabeth.
Apparently she was quite tall, not just for a Woman but by 16th century standards. 5’11 apparently.
I'll bring a box
Said the funerary...
Just imagine the guts it took to pull that off, boy o boy what a guy will do for a pretty Queen
