This is the freshman drill squad from the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets... aka "the fish squad." They were hired for this sequence by the producers of this film to perform some of their basic routines. There is an elite drill squad at A&M calld the Ross Volunteers, and they are truly mind boggling. They routinely attend ceremonies for government officials and heads of state. GIG'EM!!
Wonder how many people do not realize that these men are NOT Marines. These men belong to the Texas A&M Fish Drill Team. If you do not believe me, look at the credits at the end of the movie. GO AGGIES!!!!!!!!!
Those were the Fighting Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Fish Drill Team! :) They beat the academies in a competition for the chance to be in this film. GIG'EM AGGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@MrYellowhouse It's the Texas A&M Fish Drill Team, a college ROTC drill team (One of the best in the nation). I believe the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon wasn't available for filming, so they got the next best thing.
He just said that she was kinda' stuck up. It was over 20 years ago that he told me that. I don't remember exactly what he said about her, except he used the 'B' word to describe her.
Notice the difference between this drill team and the real Silent Drill Platoon. First, the ones in the movies are using Springfield 1903s while the Silent Drill Platoon M1 Garand's. Second, these guys don't have bayonets, the Silent Drill Platoon does. Finally the routine. This represents more of the Aggie Fish Armed drill Team than the Silent Drill Platoon. But, hen gain, these guys in this scene are the Aggie Fish Drill Tea. I'm just pointing out the differences between this drill team and the real Silent Drill Platoon.)
This segment also inspired a slight grudge between the two Teams, which is why they look forward to performing together/against each other at events. Last time was at A&M Parents Weekend in 2004
You know why they had to use Texan A&M's drill team instead of the Marines??? Because the Marines didn't want anything to do with this bleeding-heart movie.
Just to confirm. This is the Texas A&M Drill Team. If you notice the rifle slings, the brass keeper is located on the upper part of the sling. No other team has that buckle exept for the UT Arlington Sam Houston Rifles Nicknamed the "Jodies". They also did a movie intro to a movie called "Streamers", check Amazon.com for the performance, 1983, I was there.
One last interesting fact: the director wanted the A&M Fish Drill Team instead of the Marine Silent Drill Team mainly because he wanted the Ripple Line, which the Marines don't do (to that effect, at least)
True, they were not the Marine Silent Drill Team (hence the 'Yos' and 'Huts') but they weren't college students either. They were members of the Association of Former Members of Fish Drill Team from Texas A&M University
And Kevin Bacon isn't actually a Marine but that doesn't mean that he is unable of playing one well. It doesn't matter if they're Marines or not in this video. It's their excellent portrayal that I was making note of.
This was done mostly by college (Texas A&M) freshmen, so teenagers basically right out of high school. Pretty good considering they're not actual marines/military.
All those moves are very simple. But getting all of them perfectly on time with each other and executing each movement with the utmost snap and precision is what takes years of practice.
@SlaytanicPOWER Thank you, I was going to say I thought that somewhere (maybe in the credits) I saw that it was the Texas A&M Drill Team. Couldn't be the Marines...there's a couple mistakes that wouldn't have allowed to be made, no offense against these guys. They're phenomenal.
everyone always goes for the you cant handle the truth line, but my favorite one is nicholson's What do you want to ask me about now, my favorite color?
@dcgraber This is actually the Texas A&M Fish Drill Team (in this scene, most are cadre or former members) If you were to play the entire movie through you would hear "Yo HUT!" which are cadence used by Texas A&M. (which is Army in flavor)
@reynante09 These are not Marines. They are members of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Drill Team from Texas A&M University. They were asked to perform for the movie.
"All through your army career you men have bitched about what you call 'this chicken-shit drilling.' That is all for a purpose-to ensure instant obedience to orders and to create constant alertness. This must be bred into every soldier. I don't give a fuck for a man who is not always on his toes. But the drilling has made veterans of all you men. You are ready! A man has to be alert all the time if he expects to keep on breathing. If not, some German son-of-a-bitch will sneak up behind him and beat him to death with a sock full of shit. There are four hundred neatly marked graves in Sicily, all because one man went to sleep on the job-but they are German graves, because we caught the bastard asleep before his officer did." - Gen. George S. Patton
Sure, they won't run that exact drill while rushing into battle, but it's not meant for them to. Do you go through a standardized test after each fiscal year to make sure your job is teaching you right? No! Those were meant to show (albeit very poorly) that you retained enough information to function. Military drills are meant to do exactly that: test readiness, obedience, composure, and retention of skills. You have to know the gun in your hand like the hand holding the gun or else something bad is bound to happen. As a side note, I'm not military. Never have been, probably never will be. But I still get why they do this. If you so obviously don't, why are you commenting on this and not the Cinemasins video? Just fundamentally, why aren't you commenting on that one?
while i know what you mean... this is not the Texas A&M FDT(freshman drill team) these are a group of former members they got together for the movie. i have a couple friends that were on the FDT and they are always really critical of this scene... and also proud of it as well
Don't worry about the credits. They're a part of the scene. And a great scene it is. By the way, those aren't US Marines. They are the Texas A&M Corp of Cadets Fish Drill Team. Bet you can't handle that truth. Or can you?
@Scallopshell98 Actually it was the Association of Former Fish Drill Team Members that fielded the team. I don't know if they were all from Class of 93, but a good number were. The one up front was Weathers, he was on the team in 89-90, Class of 93.
Their shoes are coroform . . . permanently shiny. Also that is the A&M college FISH drill team. They are using M1903s instead of M1 Grands. Also the unpressed pants.
I actually heard the reason was because the Marine Corps felt the movie portrayed them negatively, hence why the silent drill platoon didn't participate in the film.
@Jray12 I'm sorry, I really need to comment on this because it's so funny. You know there aren't any Marines in the intro, right? This is the Texas A&M Fish Drill Team from Texas A&M University. The Marine Corps Drill Platoon refused the role in the movie, so the directed asked the Fish Drill Team to do it.
That surely is a cute series of conjuror's tricks and sleights of hand these boys are made to do, spinning and twirling'em rifles of theirs. Can someone tell me why they have to hit the ground with the rifle's butt? Alsop, is this something they have to do every morning before breakfast, or on special days and/or occasions only? What a puppetry act... Gheorghij
nyone know the name of the song that played during parts of the movie when we learned something new or something important.... ex: it plays when Markinson is in Kaffee's car and tells him there was a flight.
I was blown away the first time I saw this. If this movie came out now I would refuse to believe that that sceen wasnt somehow alerted to make it look more impressive
You can join the Marines and be a foreigner, just contact a recruiter and they'll tell you all the proper papers you need. And to top it off, i believe if you serve 4 years your granted citizenship. Now right now its hard to join the Marines because they're getting full, but the Army has the same thing, you could join the Army instead. Foreigners just cant be Officers.
just incase anybody dosent know this isnt a bunch for USMC professionals or something... the fish frill team from the Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets! GIG EM AGS, Class of 2011
The USMC did not approve of nor support this movie since it was not a favorable reflection on the Corps. The drill team is comprised of Texas A&M students.
It's the Texas A&M Fish Drill Corp.
I love watching this. It is so intense to see that kind of accuracy. Jaw dropping!
I've seen the movie many times and this scene stands out in my memory more than anything.
Amazing!
This is the freshman drill squad from the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets... aka "the fish squad." They were hired for this sequence by the producers of this film to perform some of their basic routines.

this clip kicks ass
I've only seen this a few times...but good lord, is it hypnotic. And awesome.
@MrYellowhouse It's the Texas A&M Fish Drill Team, a college ROTC drill team (One of the best in the nation). I believe the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon wasn't available for filming, so they got the next best thing.
This is the Class of 93' Fighten' Texas Aggie Fish Drill Team. I met the black guy first shown. He didn't have good things to say about Demi Moore.
What did he say exactly?
Indigodream0 Why not??
He just said that she was kinda' stuck up. It was over 20 years ago that he told me that. I don't remember exactly what he said about her, except he used the 'B' word to describe her.
+Indigodream0 he must be right then huh
is anyone else seeing this for the first time after watching cinemasins' video for pirates of the Caribbean?
yeh

yup
I am
Man, this has GOT to be some serious kind of COOL!!! Thank you gentlemen.
So Cinema Sins expected this in Pirates of the Caribbean instead of the usual formation.
Was watching Cinema sins too. haha
Owen Bunny same
best movie intrduction ever! huge respect to the marine's for enduring paris island and then goin off to kick ass!
that's because they were so mesmerized and awed, (as you were too,) at the incredible skill of the Aggies drill team.
i must have seen this film twenty times and had known it was Texas A&M, but i NEVER noticed the trousers before! what a give away! thanks zarda999
Imagine being the Dir of Photography for this scene:
Team Leader: don't worry, Mr Director, we'll just work around you.
Holy fuck... this is like synchronized swimming. But in cool. And manly.
Notice the difference between this drill team and the real Silent Drill Platoon. First, the ones in the movies are using Springfield 1903s while the Silent Drill Platoon M1 Garand's.

Yea idk why they wouldnt have just hired the real thing.

Thank you, was searching for it, as just watched the movie..again. :)
True, they were not the Marine Silent Drill Team (hence the 'Yos' and 'Huts') but they weren't college students either. They were members of the Association of Former Members of Fish Drill Team from Texas A&M University
The AFFDTM is comprised of college students at Texas A&M, ranging from sophomore through senior that were former members of the Fish Drill Team.
I could literally watch an entire film of this
Love watching this intro!
And Kevin Bacon isn't actually a Marine but that doesn't mean that he is unable of playing one well. It doesn't matter if they're Marines or not in this video. It's their excellent portrayal that I was making note of.
Gig 'em Ags!
WHOOP!
Absolutely flawless.
My ass. Maybe they weren't used to the Marine uniforms, maybe they were nervous, but they definitely should have done More Takes. FAR from perfect.
This was done mostly by college (Texas A&M) freshmen, so teenagers basically right out of high school. Pretty good considering they're not actual marines/military.
Jeremy Mendoza keep in mind that they win nationals every year.
DAMN! I've always wanted to see a drill team do this in person. I could only image the time and effort goes into making sure it goes in precise unity.
Semper Fi! Good to go! OORAH!!
More like Gig’em Ags!
That brought me here too.
Bad ass.Totally bad ass.
All those moves are very simple. But getting all of them perfectly on time with each other and executing each movement with the utmost snap and precision is what takes years of practice.
i am impressed.the sharpest in the u.s military
@SlaytanicPOWER Thank you, I was going to say I thought that somewhere (maybe in the credits) I saw that it was the Texas A&M Drill Team. Couldn't be the Marines...there's a couple mistakes that wouldn't have allowed to be made, no offense against these guys. They're phenomenal.
Most impressive...

If you were to play the entire movie through you would hear "Yo HUT!" which are cadence used by Texas A&M. (which is Army in flavor)
It's actually Senior cadets as Texas A&M who were originally members of the Fish Drill Team.
Whenever you need something to be done REALLY well, you call upon the Fightin' Texas Aggies. We do not let our nation down.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!
OOOOOOOOOOORAH SEMPER FIDELIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wasn’t the actual Marine Corps. It was actually A&M’s fish Drill Team.
@Scallopshell98 The USMC silent drill platoon's pants are white - these are grey-blue. The puppetry is the same
Nobody is forced to do this. Drill team is an option and is an extracurricular activity. It's fun!
@reynante09 These are not Marines. They are members of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Drill Team from Texas A&M University. They were asked to perform for the movie.
Yep, Cinemasins. This drill is like a totally useful skill. They are totally going to be using that rushing into battle.
It was a joke and I did -_-. Don't be a troll Nightfall.
StarWarsDrWhoFan101 Not trolling. I was really tired when I typed that out and didn't catch the joke. Sorry.
Schizoid Nightfall they do drill to instill discipline
while i know what you mean... this is not the Texas A&M FDT(freshman drill team)
these are a group of former members they got together for the movie. i have a couple friends that were on the FDT and they are always really critical of this scene... and also proud of it as well
Don't worry about the credits. They're a part of the scene. And a great scene it is.
By the way, those aren't US Marines. They are the Texas A&M Corp of Cadets Fish Drill Team.
Bet you can't handle that truth. Or can you?
"A disciplined eye", you must have that magical quality to spot great marchers and inane task carryouters.
@Scallopshell98 Actually it was the Association of Former Fish Drill Team Members that fielded the team. I don't know if they were all from Class of 93, but a good number were. The one up front was Weathers, he was on the team in 89-90, Class of 93.
That's cool!
This video really makes me admire the Marines and all, but it also makes me wonder if this is all they do....
Their shoes are coroform . . . permanently shiny. Also that is the A&M college FISH drill team. They are using M1903s instead of M1 Grands. Also the unpressed pants.
Best part of the movie, that and tom crusie pretending he can hit a baseball
This is actually really good formation xxx
I actually heard the reason was because the Marine Corps felt the movie portrayed them negatively, hence why the silent drill platoon didn't participate in the film.
SIR YES SIR!!!
Gig 'em, Ags!!
Holy shit this is fucking good
Silent Drill Platoon for the win!!!! Oorah
Robot and proud of it
cant believe that im not the only one here cos of Cinema Sins wtf lol, that's increadible
ROAR! THis is awesome, dude...wish I will b in 1 of the soldiers!!
Really great! I saw something very similar in the Kremlin once , but this is more difficult. Do American marines often perform this in parades?
They don't call them the "Fish Drill Team" for nothing.
FIGHTIN TEXAS AGGIE FISH DRILL TEAM!! Whoop!
HELL YEAH SEMPER FI DO OR DIE!!
how cool is this?
@dcgraber Incorrect sir. This is the Texas A&M Fish Drill Team.
Gheorghij
totaly!
that is basically the main reason people watch this
So bad ass
When my dad was in the Marines he was thinking about joining this drill team
This is not an Introduction. This is an Opening. And introduction has words, a prologue, a preface.
the whole video I was like "Ooooooooooooooooooooh shit!!" =D
True but at least it does show the discipline and skill of the US Marines.
whoop.
nyone know the name of the song that played during parts of the movie when we learned something new or something important.... ex: it plays when Markinson is in Kaffee's car and tells him there was a flight.
if only my jrotc armed drill team ripple line could look like this....
I was blown away the first time I saw this. If this movie came out now I would refuse to believe that that sceen wasnt somehow alerted to make it look more impressive
Anyone here that does not understand the point of DRILL AND CEREMONY, has never served in the military and will never understand "WHAT IS THE POINT".
There is none
@BQZip01 I am not saying you are wrong; but how are they allowed to use the US Marines uniform?
oh god the sounds the guns make, mmmmmmm
What is the name of the march that is playing at the start and end of this movie? Info is appreciated. Thanks.
Also, "PATRIOTISM, PEPPER, AND PROFESSIONALISM"
You can join the Marines and be a foreigner, just contact a recruiter and they'll tell you all the proper papers you need. And to top it off, i believe if you serve 4 years your granted citizenship. hoorah!
Holy crap...
FDT is an amazing drill team just look at the 95 video of them on youtube. its sick
And a Few Good Men (good at gun twirling, that is.)
That is some sexy ass formation right dere.
College boys playin' Marine......how cute! Sounds like a F-in' machine gun, ladies......NOW......once more.....by the numbers......
Yes they actually do
just incase anybody dosent know this isnt a bunch for USMC professionals or something... the fish frill team from the Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets!
GIG EM AGS,
Class of 2011

CHUCK NORRIS TAUGHT THEM THAT
