    Jerry the chameleon is so cute! I wanted to add a few things to what you said... hope I’m not stepping on any toes.
    1. Reptile bark is not recommended for chameleons due to its high risk of causing impaction. A fully bioactive enclosure or bare bottom with potted plants would be a safer option.
    2. Humidity levels for a veiled chameleon should be 30-40% during the day and 70-100% at night.
    3. Mealworms are also not recommended for chameleons due to their high levels of chitin and low nutritional value. Dubia roaches and crickets are great!
    4. Also important to specify that people want to be using calcium WITHOUT D3 as that is a very common mistake.

    This is great!!
    However, I would be careful and possibly reconsider using moss vines. Chams tend to accidentally rip out their claws on moss vines. I would also like to add that substrates are known to hold bacteria and if crickets (or any other food) are on the substrate while your cham is hunting them, they can possibly ingest the substrate which could be fatal!!!
    I think everything else is great though!
    (There is always a lot of back and forth advice between Cham owners!!)

    • @nhsbreyer6197
      @nhsbreyer6197 2 роки тому +2

      Hi Zachary! Im not licensed, but have worked with chameleons for nearly my whole life. I would recommend a glass enclosure for you because of the odd climate. Glass enclosures are very controversial in the chameleon hobby, but ive found they are actually very beneficial. My number one advice to you would be that you have proper ventilation. Meaning mesh screening on the top and if you can, the sides. This is good for keeping him warm and humid, while also providing ventilation and less access for bacteria. Another thing i would suggest would be to not add substrate or soil on the bottom of the enclosure. Because of not having as many airways, bacteria could eventually grow and harm your cham. Instead of substrate, you could go barebottom or add paper towels and exchange them weekly. If you have any other questions Id be more than happy to answer them for you!

    • @lawrencezenvlogs2381
      @lawrencezenvlogs2381  3 роки тому +1

      Glass enclosures hold in humidity better but are terrible for air flow, wired enclosures have better airflow abut suck and holding in humidity. So if you get a wired enclosure you can try and drape a large piece of cloth over it to hold in the humidity. Chameleons aren't for everyone they require much time and attention. So thoroughly think it through before you get one.

    • @dominicbeach5651
      @dominicbeach5651 3 роки тому +1

      If you can get a custom enclosure I highly recommend that, one with the sides as glass and the front and back wired. And as he said use some kind of drape for the back side of it, if you can get get some plants to drape on the back side your chameleon will be able to drink a lot easier when you mist it ( they will not drink from still water because it’s harder for them to recognize rather than dripping water. Good luck

    I got a veiled chameleon last night she is about 4 months old and absolutely gorgeous, she seems to be comfortable in her new home but I do eventually want to be able to handle her. Not often but I want her to be comfortable enough to let me, does anybody have any tips to help her trust me and open up eventually :)

      One thing I’ve learned is that you can hand feed. If you feel comfortable with holding a cricket or worm in your hand.

    Just fyi. Most breeders will get their reptiles stressed to show off their colors. They do get dark at first but after the stress is over the vibrant colors come out and that’s when they take photos. With that said, most real breeders that are willing to take care of their reptiles and charge a higher price to make sure their customers are doing their due diligence before purchasing.

    Why not a great first pet for first first time reptile keepers I call bullshit on that because I got mine around July and I never never never in my life owned a reptile not even Chamaeleon but I’ve always wanted a Chamaeleon in my life he is well and he is growing up and he’s doing fine he does not like anybody else but he likes me he prefers me to pick him up in his cage and he doesn’t mind when he sees my appearance in his cage he actually runs for my hand and climbs up my my whole arm I actually hear a lot from different people they’re great for a first pet and now I hear they’re not a great first pet? And he always loves to be hold by me by other people he’s a little bit sketched out he runs on their hands and they move fast as they can to keep up with him but he runs because he wants to have my comfort I think it’s adorable I love my Chamaeleon he’s only six weeks old 🤍🤍😂

    They can actually be handled plenty! It depends on how much you get em used to being handled from baby! The more you handle em the more comfortable they become with being held! And even have em outside there in closures.

    Don’t use a substrate they can choke on it

    • @autumnhamblen5992
      @autumnhamblen5992 3 роки тому +2

      Not necessarily choke but it does cause impaction if eaten, meaning they cant digest it properly.
