This lens smashes through 'novel' and on to 'very useful'. I kept ticking off shots which this lens would enhance, but I think you've already found most of them. Very nice find.
@@ginofactap The softness of the skin tones (and general texture of the scene), the crazy bokeh, the way the greens are rendered (it's more of a personal preference).. This lens would be lovely for a dreamy, nostalgic scene. By cinematic, I don't necessarily refer to the same zone as a Zeiss Ultra-prime or CP zone. Hope that helps :)
Wow this is bomb!! Love the footage. I just bought my first vintage lens for £4 and omg I am in LOVE with it. I regret buying brand new canon 50mm for £100 :/
Wow, what an excellent find. It may not be an "everyday" lens, but it sure delivers an extraordinary look when going for that special in-camera effect. What if any post-processing and/or color grade did you do? Other than the bokeh, it has this creamy warm saturated look. Kind of what Kodachrome film would have delivered back in the day. Thanks for sharing.
Most vintage lenses are quite sharp, atleast when stopping down. Most are not too bad wide open especially for video. For photography, less so. So, eventually other characteristics start to stand out. I'd not dismiss a vintage lenses on their seeming lack of sharpness, but for other reasons.
Mathieu love the content. I love the utility of your helicoid. The link in the description doesn’t work any longer unfortunately. Any other suggestions to find a helicoid like tge one you use in this video?
This is insanely beautiful!!!! I love how "dream like" this is. I hope the modern lens makers could have something like this, we live in a world that is too high definition.
Hello Mathieu, the link to get me a Helicoid Ring adapter on Amazon isn' working anymore. I found others, but I am not sure they have these tiny screws to block the projector lens using an Alan key. Could you give me a working link to buy what you have there? Thanks in advance
I have a 135mm Carl Zeiss Jena Proj-Tessar lens that I picked up from an estate sale for $10.00. The entire thing is made out of brass and 4 heavy pieces of glass. (It's old. Circa-1920). It's been sitting in a jewelry box for a few years. I've been contemplating using a bellows kit or a fixed tube. Now it looks like I might try the way you have yours set up. Nice shots and video movement! Your video made me reminded me of my lens I have yet to try out!
hi... i'm new in a projection lens like these. i just see the results of these projection lenses are amazing.. i plan to get the leitz colorplan 90/2.5, have you ever try to adapt that lens? do you think it's easy... i think the diameter is 42,5cm. i'm still wandering with helicoid should i use to adapt that lens. i need your suggestion, i think you're an expert in those lenses. thank you
hi, Iam trying to adapt a Kipronar 140 f1.9 to Sony E mount. I checked the links for the parts I need but the links don't work. I am interested in how to connect the camera to the Helical adapter. I see you have an extra piece.
Hi Mathieu, just a question - u mentioned above abt these- Helicoid ring adapter ( M65 to M65): amzn.to/34hzf2w - M65 to Emount adapter : tinyurl.com/yy39md5j - Ring that block the lens inside : rafcamera.com/62-5mm-to-m65-a... ( tell him you come from me ) - Ring that connects to the E mount camera: rafcamera.com/adapter-m65x1-t... So which one to get specifically? All 4 or just 3 out of 4?
You need to check out Smena 8M LOMO T-43 40mm f/4 or Smena-1 GOMZ T-22 40mm f/4.5 if you haven't already. Beautiful deep depth of field, blurry corners, razor sharp in center, reminding film cameras.
How do you manage to adapt these lenses/create the heliocoid. I've procured a few of these types of lenses over the years but could never find a good method for solid adaption.
I didn't create the helicoid, it's just something you can buy online, check the description, i listed all the parts to make yours if you find the same lens.
I have a Canon R, what kind of focusing helacoid would I look for in adapting a similar projection lens? I would like to start doing this as I have a lot of free time on my hands nowadays. Thank you for your time.
I have a Sigma SDQH, and I want to try this out, however, acknowledging the fact the SA Mount is the only palpable lens mount for my camera. Is there an M42 Mount available on the market?
No focusing mechanism, no aperture blades, just a piece of melted sand in front of your sensor.
Melted sand 🤯
Not melted, molten.
@@ArthurD meddl
Quartz. Not sand. Sand has too many impurities.
I swear that every lens Mathieu touches releases its high potential but also unfortunately increases their price.
20 euros for this !? this is madness, you are a real Indiana Jones of Ebay
Was 20 euros.
thanks
After this video 200+ :-P
I better say, the "Midas Touch."
It's now 400 on ebay, ahahaha
BOKEHHHHH!!! I'm in heaven

Yes, got mine helios 44-2 it have swirly bokeh as well
Helios is more interesting
there are lots of soviet industar lenses with such effects
Все русские, у кого есть гелиос, пишем сюда)
helios lens used same formula because soviet took control germany after WAR II
Well everytime someone makes a great review on vintage lens the price skyrockets afterwards. This lens is now tending for $200 US 😐 unbelievable
Use any projector lens

Searches said lens in ebay.. £280 dam it!! lol
this time i inserted a screen capture of my ebay when i bought the lens so people stop saying i am a liar :)
@@MathieuStern by revealing this beauty you inflated it's price mate xd.
Still cheaper than a Lomography Petzval lens......
it's gone way up since then as well
Wow man this is insane. That separation whit the background........its a madness. Words without.
I love how dreamy the depth of field is at 2:20 looks its very silver screen
The rendering of this lens is gorgeous.. One of the most cinematic images I've seen coming out of the A7 III vintage glass combo.. Thank you for this!
what is the cinematic aspect of this image, exactly?

Great video as always! But you need to finally get a large format and shoot some Aero Ektar craziness with someone :D
I need to get crazy rich then ... :(

105 cm
It didn’t change the focal distance

what if to make an aperture filter in front of front lense to make aperture smaller?
