I bought that exact CB&Q Life-Like Proto 2000 locomotive for the same reason (-the paint scheme). I figured I could always put it into my future West Coast layout as a borrowed motive power unit. ;)
I am in the planning stages of my first layout, and all my HO motive power is in boxes, but will use your video when it's time to install decoders. Thanks

Great education on internal mechanisms of locomotives!

You can unsolder plug from locomotive turn the decoder around and use the solder tabs on the decoder then solder wires directly to the decoder.Install with double sided tape and there you go , keep your plug in case you have to re-install, no grinding on frame to void warranty .This will work on any locomotives .

I have 2 Proto GP7's with Wow Sounds decoders and they run rock solid on my layout. They crawl........never had this axle issue.
