Ive been using spigen exclusively since the iphone 4, I can not in good conscience recommend the spigen ring until they figure out the adhesive. Mine came off the second time I put my phone in my pocket and would never get back on. Its too expensive for the way it works and no refund or replacement was offered
I had the same issue with the spigen...more than once. Every time i tried it. Does the esr hold better? I feel like it's solid and doesn't have that tab it might stay on better. Also spigen has a new mag ring that is supposed to be an improvement over the metal ring shown here. Anyone try that one?
So many unanswered questions. Like does the heat from your car vent loosen the glue and cause it to eventually fall off? How long does the Spigen last on the back of the case before it starts to peel off? And since you had a second ring you could have shown us how the connection would be if we put the ring inside the case versus on it
Thanks Chuck, I did a follow up video if you are interested (ua-cam.com/video/9Xtp-ym2mxw/v-deo.html), but to answer your question on glue, I have not had it loosen at all after use.
I ordered something similar but I didn’t know the one I ordered was made to stick on the phone itself I was hoping it would fit on the non MagSafe case which was advertised as MagSafe compatible but wasn’t on the inside of the case I rather have it stick to inside of the case because if it’s on outside over time the adhesive might weaken from pulling in and out of my pocket
Is it possible if I stick the ring inside the case instead of on top of the case? And is there any overheat/ more heat than normal changing while charging? Thx
Kan, hypothetically you can put the ring inside the case, but that will technically weaken the connection slightly as you now have the case in between the ring and the magsafe accessory. I haven't felt any overheating during charging.
Any plans to check out the mophie rings? Their product page at least says they can be mounted inside of a slim case with no mention of a weaker connection. Looking for a review on that is how I found this video.
Hi! Will the ring adapter work inside the case? I got a casetify that isnt magsafe and was hoping that it will still charge (i dont want it outside the case as i want it to be seamless) thank you!
They are designed for outside the case. If you put them inside the case you are weakening the magnetic hold because the case is now creating a small barrier. Theoretically it should work inside the case, but I'd be concerned about having enough space and not scratching your phone.
How is the glue holding? I used to have a normal round metallic plate that is pretty much similar to this. The purpose for it was to just hold my phone in a car with a magnetic holder. The problem I had is that after a couple of mounts the glue would get soft and my phone would fall from the magnetic holder, due to the ring metallic glue getting soft and not holding properly. I got my phone cracked because of this and I'm feeling skepticall in buying a magsafe that sticks on your case just to make it magsafe. I'd rather buy a magsafe case but the ones i've found i dont like the cases how it looks.
One thing you can do is use a little rubbing alcohol it will temporarily soften it but should let the glue survive longer than if you have to stretch it a lot to remove it by force alone.
Hi Chris, have you tried using magsafe chargers to charge an Android device using these rings? And does the phone get hot when charging with these opposed to a regular qi wireless charger (non magsafe)? Thanks!
Hi Marry - I have not used the OtterBox commuter before, but just looked at it online. I can't speak to how it helps in charging, but it does look like the ring should fit fine on the back and provide a good hold for MagSafe accessories.
Surely it should work fine because the iPhones that have magsafe built into the device the actual metal is inside the phone so there's a layer of phone and then if u add a case there's another layer too. So going by that for iPhone 11s that don't have magsafe built in, adding the ring to the inside of the case should be okay?
Hi Carlos, great question, I made a follow up video that answers this question if you are interested in checking it out (ua-cam.com/video/9Xtp-ym2mxw/v-deo.html) but to answer your question here, while it will work with the ring placed inside the case, it does weaken the magnetic field, so might not work as well as if you placed the ring on the outside of the case. Thanks for wathcing!
Can i put one on my otter box? This case was supposed to be qi charging compatible but it Is not. Just wondering if the ring would stick well to this otter box material?
Hey, nice video. I have a question for you. I would like to know what iPhone model you are using. How do you align the iphone 14 pro max, which is at least 6.7 inches wide? I see there is a line you need to follow, but how do you align it?
It’s tricky, the templates don’t work that well. I use the magnet ring with adhesive backing on first to find the right spot, then align the template to that area.
So assuming you have wireless charging, these will enable the MagSafe connection. They will give magnetics from the charger or wallet something to hold onto.
Kinda disappointed. There is so much talk about customers wanting to put these inside the case and this video even brings that topic up multiple times. This video would have been a GREAT opportunity to directly answer that concern by placing the ring inside a case (Un-adhered) then using the magsafe charger to show how weak the magnetic connection is if even there. Gppd video but definitely a missed opportunity here.
It may, but the connection would become weaker. The ring itself is not magnetic. It is metallic and the purpose is to increase the hold against MagSafe accessories, think wallets or car mounts.
I wanna turn my old note 9 into a magsafe type of device. I know it's already wireless charger capable bc I currently use a wireless charger for it bc the charging port no longer works. IF I could turn it into a magsafe type of charger, this would mean I could actually use the phone while it charges. Which was be amazing to do again. With all this being said, what all would I need to be able to achieve this? Example, what kind of ring? what kind of charger? Obviously I'm not using an iPhone but hopefully you can guide me in the right direction. Please & thanks
It's slightly raised on the back when you put it in, but not sharp. I would use a magsafe charger to find the right spot, maybe put a piece of tape on around edge to mark it, and then apply the adapter aligned to the tape.
It will be easier if you have the case on before you put the spigen onetap magsafe ring so you can use the apple logo as the center alignment thing. I still enjoyed your video.
Both are equal. Neither are magnetic, they are metallic which gives the magsafe adapter something to magnetically connect to. Look up the Mophie ring if you want something truly magnetic.
So iPhone 13 is MagSafe so it should work. If you are asking if the adapter will stick to the case, as long as it is a flat surface and not fabric you should be fine. Thx!
@@thechristaft I also wanted to know if the ring adapter would be able to also wirelessly charge the battery case. The case supports QI Wireless charging. I use a standard Lightning cable to charge the case but it’s loose due to the case design
@@pablowhauschildt I haven't tested this myself, but the ring will not interfere with wireless charging, so if the battery pack supports wireless charging then the ring shouldn't change that.
I have the Pitaka mount/charger and it works great with a Pitaka case with Mag safe compatible ring built in, But I want to use a different case and so I need one of these rings. the most important part for me is the strength of the magnetic pull, I would prefer to use whichever has the stronger bond, did you notice any difference in either ring as far as holding on to Mag safe products and chargers better?
If you don’t plan to use a case at all that could work. I would be concerned about how tightly they take hold, they aren’t easy to remove. And if you do put a case on, it will weaken the magnetic hold to any accessory you use.
Inside of the case? Wouldn't that result in opposite magnetic field? I'm considering installing this ON my galaxy s22 ultra. And maybe having a flexible case on top of it

I use magsafe charging only with my car halolock accessory . So can I just apply this magnetic ring for magsafe accessory only, instead of putting on case ?
Does the tail/handle of the spigen make a significant difference with alignment? Is there a benefit with having a halolock that's a full circle vs having a circle that has a gap?
Great question... the handle bar helps with alignment. Some (not all) MagSafe accessories have an extra magnet below the circular magnet to help with alignment to keep the accessory straight on the back of your phone. Thanks for watching!
Srry Brian, I may have used something like a credit card or plastic pry tool to get under the edge, but just had to work until it came off, it wasn’t easy
